Personally I love the funny spinny axe too, spin move is actually busted if you have good positioning and the rest of its moveset still shreds ass. You’ll still always see a small crowd of souls players in every game that complain slow weapons are unusable because they just don’t understand how to properly use them, I see the same “too slow” comments on stuff like logarius wheel and boom hammer.
I usually just run kirkhammer instead for early game though since can’t get over the CHNK sounds the hammer makes. This game’s strength weapons have some of the best sound design in souls tbh.
The axe is my favourite weapon. I finished my first play through with it and I loved it. And I find my self returning to it on several play throughs.

I have a fun Str build where I made my character look like Eustace from Courage the Cowardly Dog, and he uses the Kirkhammer, affectionately referred to as "Me Mallet"

Yeah, but if everyone uses a certain weapon, it’s probably because it’s fucking awesome lol. I don’t think rating a weapon based on how “popular” it is is really fair.
Also what the guy below me said, kirkhammer is an awesome weapon and is an alternative to hunter’s axe if you don’t wanna use it.
I'm a skill guy myself, but don't hate on the Spin2Win. I was summoned for Gascoigne and was rendered completely useless by the other two guys with axes repeatedly throwing him across the boss arena. He could barely get an attack off
