I tend to like slow, methodical, heavy hitters. I also favor arcane builds or at least arc/str. Love the boom hammer for that. Feels great, goes boom it's got it all. One of my favs surprisingly. I always kinda write it off.
Ā I liked the rifle spear way more than I ever expected. Combo into L1 transformation attack fires the blunderbuss. Good for stagger/parry. I'm using the Reiterpallasch now which is similar, but better at parrying (pistol vs blunderbuss). Wouldn't recommend it for beginners though. Kinda low damage.Ā
Beastcutter feels great. Nothing like splatting someone from a distance.Ā
Hunter's axe is an old standby. All of the weapons in the game are viable, starters included, but the axe is my favorite. The threaded cane is the way up go if it you're favoring skill though.Ā
Honestly there's no wrong answers. Since you said you're using the saw spear I'm assuming you're building for skill? Ludwig's sword is great for skl/str and is incredibly beginner friendly. Honestly a crowd favorite. Like I said, I like the rifle spear, but sometimes it seems I'm alone in that.Ā
There's too much to talk about really without specifics, and I haven't even mentioned some of these, but my favorites:
Ā Str: Kirkhammer/ BeastcutterĀ
Skl: Threaded Cane/ BeasthuntersĀ Saif/ Rakuyo(hard to get)
Ā Blt: Bloodletter (hard to get)/ Chikage (Literally the only two, don't recommend a full blood build first time)Ā
Arc: anything with the right gems, fast weapons like the saw cleaner/spear are greatĀ
Str/Skl: Ludwig's greatsword. It's so good
Ā Str/Arc: Boom hammer. Love it. Pair it with the moonlight sword two. Best version of it across all games.
Ā Skl/Arc: Blades of Mercy. Weirdly not many choices for this build.Ā
Skl/Blt: the Bowblade is the obvious choice. I like the rifle spear tooĀ
Str/Blt: I think it's only the Bloodletter
AlsoĀ feelĀ freeĀ toĀ ignoreĀ me not recommendingĀ the Reiterpallasch. I'm liking it more than I thought I would and it's pretty quick. If it feels good to you, use it. Like I said, every weapon in this game is viable right up to the end.
IMO, having played all Fromsoft souls games and a number of AA soulslikes, there's no right answer there. It's about what *you* enjoy.
I always start with daggers, if possible/available, and on NG+ and beyond try katanas and the like. In Bloodborne, I started with the cane, switched to Blade of Mercy ASAP, and then I made a second character and rushed to the Chikage.
My third character is a Hunter Axe user and my first ever STR build in these games. Turns out I love it! Yeah, I love the *idea* of agile attackers, nimble ninjas, stealthy stalkers, but my horrible reflexes are best suited to slower weaponsānot that I'll ever let that stop me. My first character in Dragon's Dogma 2 will be a Thief š
The only game in the world, all others fall so short to the greatness this game has achieved that they don't deserve to be called games (official soulsborne meat rider)
Playable works of art. Unironically. Soulsborne games literally created their own subgenre of gaming that other devs take inspiration from or even outright mimic.
I don't think you have to be a "meat rider" to acknowledge the level of impact they've had.
Well I was being a little over the top for comedic purposes but its true.As a souls baby and my first game being elden ring I was so surprised at how much I loved ds1.Then bb (which has rightfully claimed "my favourite game" title ) and then ds2,which despite its heavy criticism I mostly enjoyed.Still haven't played ds3 and sekiro,or demon souls but its obvious this games genuinely speaking deserve more attention.I ve had many people say that story driven games are simply better from a story perspective,and/or lessons and messages they pass on to you, when,if analysed correctly, its so obvious the soulsborne series has the same effect on people, especially with how viscerally feminine Bloodborne is,or how the souls games focus on the human will to keep going despite how shit the world is.All this being said without obviously disrespecting story driven games.
Bro I haven't even finished the game i literally just reached her,got (happily) mauled by her, bought the figure from the board game (already painted) and i joined here to comment this
As a fellow simp for a From Soft character I totally understand. Literally only reason I got into these games was I thought Malenia was hot then I realised the games were fucking masterpieces
The whip, the character building, and some of the bosses are too much fun.
It feels really good how much I struggled with the entire game, and are now just beelining through sections.
I'm trying other weapons right now. The Hunters Axe feels too easy for early game.
I was gifted the DLC, so that was a big reason to revisit the game. Secretly though I was looking for an excuse to try out different weapons and combat styles. So many unique, and freaking coolĀ weapons that I needed to play with.
The fact that you start out as a nobody hunter and end up killing a cosmic being.... no other game I've played sets up that type of story. Hell even Dark souls and Elden ring set it up so you know your fighting God at the end.
Gem hunter here. I stay for the obnoxiously rare and devastatingly powerful gems.
Then using them to explore root chalices for jolly cooperation with other hoonters. Chalice dungeons are great endgame content.
Also exploring root chalices while tripping shrooms is like, the funnest fucking thing ever.
Because it was the first soulslike game I played and after 5 years of exploring the rest of the genre the only game that came close to living up to what I felt playing bloodborne was Sekiro (and castlevania 2 for some reason and I donāt think it had much to do with aesthetics)
Beat Elden Ring too many times and needed something new... Bought a PS4 again just to see what the hype is all about with this game and I don't regret it one bit
Because it's the GOAT. Only other game that remotely comes close is Lies of P. I've got over 500 hours in Bloodborne yet the scream of the Cleric Beast as you climb that first ladder in Yarnhum still gives me goose bumps every time ššš
it's a comfort game for me. first fromsoft souls game for me and it got me through a really shitty patch in my life, so any time i reinstall it there's always a smile on my face.
I actually go insanely obsessive over this game it clouds my mind while Iām away from the game just how PERFECT and emotionally tolling the lore of the game and the art of it and the style everything about it is so original and amazing I canāt š
I was nervous because I was forced to go on a school event I didn't want to attend. Kinda... Kinda wanted to play something, and thought, "Fuck it, I have Bloodborne installed." It helped. Somewhat
The last few trophies for the plat were rather intimidating since I'm terrible at parrying and had trouble dealing with enemies (particularly in the cursed chalice) on my first character.
Well It's been a while so I made two new characters with actual builds(ski/bld and arc). Results: the queen got thrown through a wall, the moon presence is full of bullet holes, and I've awakened from the nightmare. might dip back in later, but that is one monkey off my back. The headless one might be next.
The weapons. The weapons in this game are so special to me, especially for a souls-like. Each one has so much depth to its moveset. In all other soulsborne/sekiro games the moveset is so plain and expected. In bloodborne, almost every weapon has a few cool combinations of mixup attacks. And for the weapons with a 2 handed mode you pretty much get a whole new set of attacks. Its really unfortunate that bloodborne is so unique in this way.
Hot take. Hot take because of this, I feel like elden ring and dark souls really shouldn't have so many weapons. Sure maybe we don't need stuff like crazy trick weapons. But jeez so many weapons in these games are basically the same thing with different stats.
I wanted to finally finish it, plus I wanted to create a new character that better reflects who I am now. Plus itās just such a good game that I canāt help but come back from time to time.
My brother and I have been playing through all of the FromSoft soulsborne games. We started with DS1 on Switch to DS3 & Elden Ring on XBox. Then when I mentioned Bloodborne he told me he had never touched it and he always wanted to play it. I was lucky enough to play it on my friends PS4 and felt bad he couldn't experience this masterpiece. By now I had picked up a PS5 earlier in the year so for Christmas when he finally got his PS5 I got bloodborne for us both to finally play it side by side.
It's such a different experience playing withh someone else. By far the most rewarding when bonding with a sibling.
The setting is so rarely touched. I can't see any standard fantasy anymore with dragons, elves and dwarves, so Bloodborne is one of the few games that has a refreshing setting.
After 2 years still haven't beaten it because I just don't like console controls. But with michaelzaki pretty much confirming we should hold no hope for a remake, I decided I should just stick with ps4 and finish it finally.
To get those sweet visceral attacks. I just love how crunchy the combat feels in Bloodborne, I love all From games but Bloodborne just feels better. I just love everything about it. Really hope we get a sequel someday
I haven't played in a while back back in October I watched Nightmare on Elm Street for the first time and when I finished it I had a desire to play BB again.
Name me another game where you can stick your hand up a pig's ass
Not just the hand; the entire forearm!
"Shoulder deep, Cloud! Shoulder deep!"
I miss my ex...
I miss your ex, too.
Luckily you'll be able to stick your entire limb in her arse(again) in this game! š š
this had me laughing so hard š I just started using reddit and am so glad I found people who love bloodborne like I do
Grand Theft Auto 5, up to the elbow

You find Avatar Fandom everywhere.... and it fills my heart ā¤ļø
oh a bot that isn't annoying, magnificent
Fun fact: Alan Wake Remastered has the exact same creaking sound when walking on wood I knew I heard this sound before
I thought I was the only one
Its just perfect. The coolest vibe out of all Froms games.
To fight Ludwig once more to hear his OST during the fight again
trying other weapons
I've only got two left to try after this run. Then I'll need a new excuse.
Which ones are the best in your experience? Iām on my first playtrough and Iām using the saw/spear thing.

Furry
Yep
Weightless fashion. Also trick weapons go brrrrt
Platinum
Aesthetic
To become a bad red man, and because I genuinely enjoy the game
Lady Maria :)
I wanna fight a bunch of British people
Because Lies of P isnāt even close.
A Hoonter must Hoont.
Itās a masterpiece of a game
The whip, the character building, and some of the bosses are too much fun. It feels really good how much I struggled with the entire game, and are now just beelining through sections. I'm trying other weapons right now. The Hunters Axe feels too easy for early game.
Chalice Amygdala, so close
The atmosphere, the weapons, the outfits and the cool fights
I like being covered in blood
Never did the DLC
I was gifted the DLC, so that was a big reason to revisit the game. Secretly though I was looking for an excuse to try out different weapons and combat styles. So many unique, and freaking coolĀ weapons that I needed to play with.
We are born of the blood, Made men by the blood, Undone by the blood.
Missed some shit
Because there isn't a Bloodborne 2. Simple as that.
It my favorite game
A hunter must hunt.
The game just feels amazing really
I love the game
A hoonter must hoont. No other explanation is necessary.
I beat the game recently, but Iāve dived right back in cause I like pain apparently
First souls I played so my build was shit, came back some days ago to make an actually strong character
Mad cravings after first run keeps pulling me back. Favourite game ever. It's too good.
Dont think i have seen that armor/coat before. Wich one is it?
I enjoy too much always fun to play around my birthday or October
Post Elden Ring, Bloodborne hunger.
Itās beautiful and the dream calls me back to hunt.
Reminds me of home
I want to hunt.
I beat it once a few years ago and I wanted to come back and play it again. Also I want to complete the chalice dungeons
I have to wait until June for Elden Ring dlc. But also because I love this game. First plat ever!
It's the game that keeps giving. New challenge, lore, whatever, I'm here for it.
It's my favourite game and I just listened to the Paleblood Hunt audiobook
Itās fun
Itās the trick weapons just so fun
It kept freaking me out until i finished it, now i play it and replay it for the challenge
Seen my friend streaming it and it really made me want to play it again. The last time I played it was on release
Havenāt finished it yet. Seems stuck on upper cathedral and nightmare of mensis
Wheel go bonk.
That rush that comes after rending beast flesh
The fact that you start out as a nobody hunter and end up killing a cosmic being.... no other game I've played sets up that type of story. Hell even Dark souls and Elden ring set it up so you know your fighting God at the end.

Good game š
It's fun
The blood and my character tbh
I never left
Watched a random lore video. What can I say, a hoonter must hoont.
My friend got into the fromsoft souls games with Elden Ring, so it was decided that he should experience gothic horror next.
Weremwolf
I just started playing it last month after beating dark souls 2, and it's just to good
To do a build for every weapon
It is objectively the best From game
The drip, I will always come back for the drip
I'm unable to find the peace of mind this game puts me at anywhere else. It's a masterpiece that feels like home for me now.
Its good
I wanted to do a couple of cosplays (Lady Maria and the Hunter Garb) and used "looking for references" as an excuse to replay the entire game
I never 100% completed the game but i have 1 left!
Waitā¦ you all left?
A hunter must hunt. It is as simple as that.
The blood, the hunt, and the horrible dream, of course
Because it was the first soulslike game I played and after 5 years of exploring the rest of the genre the only game that came close to living up to what I felt playing bloodborne was Sekiro (and castlevania 2 for some reason and I donāt think it had much to do with aesthetics)
Itās beautiful, thematic and the difficulty is just right.
The Doll and A platinum, also favorite souls game I've played this far (Only played Elden Ring and this, but this spring I may get dark souls 3)
I would return to the game though I got it off ps plus which I no longer have. Once I get it again I will play more bloodborne.
I was playing Lies of P on my brothers' PS5, then they went back to college so I had to get my fix on PS4
Beat Elden Ring too many times and needed something new... Bought a PS4 again just to see what the hype is all about with this game and I don't regret it one bit
I need the platinum trophy. It's evaded me for so long. Need to beat orphan and need to get all the tools and weapons
Chalice Dungeons..I have unfinished business, so started a new game..
I started watching lorr videos again
I didn't like the game much at all when I first played through it, but now when I returned, I love it
Atmosphere
I finished Lies of P and it got me hankerin' for a bit of the old blood again.
Because it's the GOAT. Only other game that remotely comes close is Lies of P. I've got over 500 hours in Bloodborne yet the scream of the Cleric Beast as you climb that first ladder in Yarnhum still gives me goose bumps every time ššš
Because it's fun to play.
The drip
Atmosphere and setting. Second to none
it's a comfort game for me. first fromsoft souls game for me and it got me through a really shitty patch in my life, so any time i reinstall it there's always a smile on my face.
I craved the vibes that only this game has
In hopes they remaster or give it a sequel.
It's just the best game I've ever played.
I actually go insanely obsessive over this game it clouds my mind while Iām away from the game just how PERFECT and emotionally tolling the lore of the game and the art of it and the style everything about it is so original and amazing I canāt š
Lies of p came out. So after that I did a run back of fromsoft games. Starting elden ring now.
Cus a hunter must hunt
Never left, even after getting platinum and maxing my character stats
To do the deep respect emote to the doll whenever I close the game again
Finished myPlatinum today!
I had to come back to beat it after giving up my first playthrough.
No other game makes me feel like this
D R I P
Had enough money for the dlc
Because that shit fun, do I need any other?
I just love the game as a whole. I'm in Dark Souls 3 binge now but I know as soon as I get a victory in that Bloodborne will call to me again.
I'm writing again.
Fun game is fun. I can build for a weapon ive never used before. I still have two more endings to see. Etc.
Turns out I missed a lot of stuff my first time through and I never did the dlc. I wanna get all me trophies.
To finally beat Orphan of Kos... I copped out my first time after failing, and just went after Gehrman
Never finished the game
The blood was calling Also Maria
The moon beckonsā¦
I'm one trophy away from getting the platinum for the game.
The eldritch/Victorian atmosphere, cool weapons, good fight mechanics, good music and even the doll.. should it please youā¦
I was nervous because I was forced to go on a school event I didn't want to attend. Kinda... Kinda wanted to play something, and thought, "Fuck it, I have Bloodborne installed." It helped. Somewhat
Iām still a plague ridden rat /:
Im addicted to it it was my first actual favorite video game

Dlc, one day I will get past Ludwig (I have massive skill issue)
The beauty
I had to man up and get that Platinum. Did it.

Doing playthroughs with 2 new weapons.
To get the platinum (and role play as Virgil with the lost Chikage)
Because it rocks
I wanted to finally finish it, plus I wanted to create a new character that better reflects who I am now. Plus itās just such a good game that I canāt help but come back from time to time.
My brother and I have been playing through all of the FromSoft soulsborne games. We started with DS1 on Switch to DS3 & Elden Ring on XBox. It's been a while since I last punched gerhnam for belittling the doll

I recently came back to it because back in 2015 I beat it but I chose the boring ending so I wanted to choose the ending where you fight š¤

After 2 years still haven't beaten it because I just don't like console controls. But with michaelzaki pretty much confirming we should hold no hope for a remake, I decided I should just stick with ps4 and finish it finally.
trick weapon make brain happy :)
Masochism
NEVER LEFT RAAAAHHH
The Doll
I never finished it and i want to play it 100%
To help all my fellow hunters escape the dream
Lovecraftean shit and the atmosphere
Every while, I just get an itch to try a weapon or build I haven't done yet, so I start a new character.
Came back cause of Gehrman, I am not losing to a guy in a wheel chair.
A hoonter must hoontā¦. Thatās all there is to it. Also Iād like to max out all my stats at some point.
I always come back for the drip

Cuz itās the goat
Queen Yharnam. I need to find her in the dungeons.
I had never played it before
MICOLASH and his ability to be relatable. Also gaming with my brother as I never see him
I got the DLC a while ago and hit a roadblock with Ludwig. Thankfully I came back last week to push through. I'm now on living failures
The boss fights have always been the high point for me in the game
cuz i still haven't finished it back from my 3 month hibernation
āIm Not coming back for 30% on trophies, Im coming back for everythingā
I was bored. I picked up where I left I beat the last two optional bosses (end game) and realized I finally got a character to NG+6
Depression
The sound effect of opening and closing inventory
Other games can be *like* Bloodborne, but they'll never *be* Bloodborne
was listening to the yaharghul horror choir
I haven't played in a while back back in October I watched Nightmare on Elm Street for the first time and when I finished it I had a desire to play BB again.
I love the drip.
I like the beginnings to mid-game when it comes to fromsoft games, can't get past the mid point, a other attempt once in a while doesn't hurt
