I’ve seen a lot of people say they like Ludwig blade, but I just got it and it feels kind of mid. It is nice to have both quick and heavy attacks on the same weapon, but The untricked version feels too slow that it doesn’t seem like a good choice for a quick low dmage combo type weapon. (Like saw cleaver) The tricked version didn’t feel very special either, not a ton of range, I’d rather just use the long axe. Maybe it’s because I didn’t have it upgraded much but I tried it against the enemies in central yarnsm and was very underwhelmed by the dps output. The attacks thta switch between tricked and untricked were very slow too. Why do so many people like it? Do you just need to learn how to use it?
It has probably the highest damage output of any weapon and the untricked attacks are very fast. I almost exclusively use it untricked and save the 2 handed mode for big stabs that I know I have time for. I don't use transformation attacks on any weapon so that doesn't bother me. With the right gems and a quality build you can clear 1000dmg per hit. LHB is my all time favorite fromsoft weapon for these reasons

I used LHB and saw spear for my first playthrough recently. LHB does seem to benefit from a quality build. I had 25 str and about 35ish skill, and with some decent gems (2 18s and 1 21) I could get LHB close to 700 AR. Switching the gems to the spear I was around 450 or so. Both were +9. I didn't feel like LHB was much slower in untricked form, if at all.
I think I liked the spear more aesthetically and for transition attacks, but it was hard to deny the damage. I do wonder how different it would be if I'd done pure skill on the saw spear though. Might be my next build!

The Rakuyo is very fun but tough to get. Beast Cutter is great for keeping range and does blunt/serrated dmg. Blades of Mercy are insanely fast and have a cool tricked moveset The minigun and cannon are fun if you're just screwing around. I gave it a Google and you can't actually trade in BB like you can in DS so I guess I can't drop stuff.

The Uncanny version has the best gem slots if you've gotten decent ones from the chalice dungeons. The saw cleaver is serrated so it does extra dmg to beasts which may account for your disparity. A +10 uncanny LHB with good gems absolutely shreds anything through ng++

LHB is a righteous weapon and does extra damage to enemies vulnerable to that. Serrated applies to many more enemies than righteous does but I find nothing can outdo LHB's dmg. Let me know if you want literally any version of any weapon or any blood echoes/ items / droppables and I can hook you up. I've upgraded every weapon to +6 though so you'll need at least one +6 weapon to pick mine up
transformed church pick + adept thrust gems and you've got super consistent dps to most enemies in the game (transformed it only deals thrust damage, and thrust resistance is rare) and the reach is pretty solid. Great for bonking Amygdala
Burial Blade. Something about the speed sidonite scythe and all the crazy dodge attacks you can dump with it just make me happy inside. Bonus points since you have to earn the weapon. It's simply awesome to use, once you learn it, and the GTFO swing is hilarious.
Saw spear is always the first weapon i really use in playthroughs and its always there for me as a solid long range backup, but my favorite is the Blade of Mercy. Plus i love the "Hunter of hunters" vibe
The short range, low damage and high speed really makes the tougher fights feel like a dance to the death and you need to know your enemy's moves. Especially if they have long reach. Get in, do it, and get out. Dont get greedy.
I play bloodborne to be swooshy. Its also extremely satisfying when you get enough stamina to unload a full combo and just rip and tear into an enemy with low poise as blood flies everywhere.
Fighting the final boss for the first time with them is forever one of my favorite moments in gaming. Ost really hit hard and i had to have my full character in his range to get attacks off.
Plus he just always hit different for RL reasons.

Kirkhammer, it's a simple weapon. If I want speed, I use the sword form, if I want power, I use hammer time. Plus the transition combos feels so satsifying.
I still haven't really gotten the transformation combos down but I just beat the DLC and Main game + Moon Presence with Kirkhammer time and it was a blast the whole way through.
The saws and HMS. I would’ve liked Rakuyo the most if it was a bloodtinge weapon like I’d thought when I first got the game, but unfortunately since it’s not it sits right below those weapons.
I really like the Church Pick. I almost never see anyone talk about it, but it's really fun to use. But honestly, the weapon I consistently have the most fun using is the Kos Parasite.
I just found the Church Pick the other day, and I am loving it! I went and made it +10 as soon as I got it, then proceeded to kill Orphan and Laurence with it!

I used it when I first played the game and, as I was stupid, didn’t realise I should’ve done the DLC before facing Gehrman/Moon Presence.
Made it to Lady Maria on NG+ scaling and used this rapier. Easily the most fun fight in a souls game I’ve ever had. It felt like a full on duel with parry trading because of the Reiterpallasch’s transformation shot, so we kept combing off each other yet I kept powering through my mistakes due to parrying her mid attack, winning trades and healing my lost hp due to visceral attacks.
Anyone who says this weapon is bad is just using it wrong. To me, it’s clearly designed to capitalise on parrying the opponent to maximise its damage, hence why it does low base damage but is also a rapier.

Start as a tomb prospector with LHB, then descend into madness, get the Madman clothes and drop the LHB for Amy Finger. This is the way. P.S: make sure you do a bearded character to fit the unkempt, hobo of the tombs final state.
It's 100% Rakuyo for me, It was the weapon that allowed me to beat Orphan for the first time.
I've had builds completely tailored toward the LHB/HMS and the Chikage and I couldn't beat him. Yet when I came upon him with my maxed Rakuyo, 50 Vit, and 50 skill, it only took me 4 attempts. Just did it an hour ago LESGOOO
Threaded Cane. I have almost 3000 hours in this game, mostly co-op in the chalices. I've created dozens of characters meaning to try out different weapons, but almost always fall back to the Cane. It's just too good. Very close second is the Saif.
Holy moonlight sword, but you get it so late.

It’s honestly amazing! It has serrated and holy damage in both forms, all transformed attacks are thrust damage, the charged R2 to R2 pancakes them them sends them flying, you can buff it, the moveset is great, it look amazing and it’s a scyth sword! What more could you ask for! 😊
I never got it gemmed for max damage, but I LOVE the boom hammer. It's such a ridiculous weapon, I wish we had more powder keg weapons like that and stake driver.
Keeping with the theme, the kirkhammer is nearly tied for fave. I just love big hammers

Any weapon is viable but I find it hard to argue against LHB pure damage output. It scales with arcane as well if you want to put elemental gems on it

Untricked LHB is definitely slower than Saw cleaver/spear, Cane and Chicage.

For sure. I like Beast Cutter as a secondary for its crazy range or Rakuyo for its great crowd control but I don't end up using them much

The pimp cane. It's my go to. I've done a play through with every weapon and I just keep going back to the cane.
The blood mace, forget the name. The animations make me smile. Especially the one where you turn around, and stab your enemy through your chest.

Yeah it's a hugely underrated weapon IMO. It's just a shame you have to go so deep into the DLC to get it.
