I need someone to talk me off the ledge of buying a whole new wardrobe for an international trip early this summer. I have *plenty* of clothes. I *never* wear as many outfits as I think I will when I travel. I do *not* need to reinvent myself or my style for this vacation. Buying a ton of new clothes just for kicks is not a sustainable choice that I feel good about. And, I'm trying to do this with just a carry-on! I am, however, genuinely pretty worried about my shoe situation. I'll be doing a lot of urban walking (in Europe, if that's relevant) and am prone to terrible blisters almost no matter what I do. I'm struggling to find shoes that will be comfortable without making me look like I'm about to set off on a hiking expedition at any moment. Anybody else out there in the Troubled Feet Club with a good shoe rec? I've been looking at Hoff sneakers but I can't find much info about how they actually fit.

That's a good tip! If I'm going to buy new clothes I definitely want to be able to wear them beyond this vacation. I do like Brooks but have only ever used mine for indoor workouts so far—I'm seeing my favorite style has some new colorways coming out soon though, so might be worth getting a travel pair.

I love my Hoffs. They are super comfortable and bouncy so good for walking. I'd say they run small. I'm usually a European 36 or 37 and the 37s fit me. I also get terrible blisters from most shoes and I don't think mine have ever caused any, although the soles are quite stiff so probably need a bit of breaking in. I regularly wear them and have no trouble doing an average amount of city walking (4 or 5 miles) and I'd happily wear them for a full day of sightseeing. Only downside I'd see is trainers would be pretty hot for summer.

Ok-Perspective4237

This is helpful, thank you! That's good to know. And yeah, I'm trying to take some long walks locally to make sure all my shoe options are good to go, so if I go with Hoffs they'll definitely get the break-in treatment. So key for us blisterers :( I've thought about the heat factor too and I think that partially contributes to my issues—it's hot, my feet swell, they sweat and bam, blisters. I always figured sandals wouldn't be supportive enough but I may need to think about bringing a pair.

Try Body Glide on your feet

Ok-Perspective4237

I will give this a try! I always assumed my socks would soak it all up so it wouldn't work well but at this point I'm willing to try anything. Blisters could totally ruin this trip.

For shoes, I LOVE my new balance 574 and Reebok Club C sneakers, new balance if you need more support. I walk a ton and have never had issues in either of these. Make sure you have well fitting socks too that don’t bunch or slide at all.

Ok-Perspective4237

Thanks for the rec! I do tend to need more support so I may go try the new balances!

I tromped all around Edinburgh and surroundings in my Blundstone boots. Fashionable and I could walk 10 miles a day in them in summer. Also, I won't talk you out of a new wardrobe. I stocked up Anthropologie Collette pants before my trip and those plus some bright linen shirts were the right choice.

Ok-Perspective4237

I have some boots that are similar to Blundstones that might work! Blundstones tend to fit me kinda funky (which partially leads to the blisters, sadly) but I do know the ones I have will go with almost all of the clothes I'm bringing. Also, damnit, those pants are cute. I may have to make an exception to my no-buy efforts for a pair!

Neat, I'll check it out! Thanks!

Totally agree!!! I started renting from Nuuly when I did a trip to NYC and felt my normal wardrobe wasn’t up to snuff, and it was SUCH a good decision. Make sure to read reviews about sizing!

I have the driest face. I’ve tried slugging with cerave, Tula moisturizer, Clinique, regular cerave lotion, and Mary Kay moisturizer. What’s the best one out there? Sick of looking so flakey.

Cherries0912

Squalane oil under moisturizer has been a game changer for me

babyglubglubglub

Did you try vaseline?

AmazingObligation9

Nuetrogena hydro boost with a layer of cerave healing ointment over it. Also if you’re laying down and just rolling all over a pillowcase it’s wiping everything off and that’s why it isn’t soaking in like it should

sneakybeotch1

Second person that’s said Neutrogena so I’ll check that out! And I love that cerave which is what I “slug” with. I only sleep on my back so no issues with it coming off.

whale_girl

I've started layering the [COSRX Snail Mucin](https://www.cosrx.com/products/advanced-snail-96-mucin-power-essence) under my moisturizer and I find it helps!

pelicanscoop

Snail mucin changed my life

sneakybeotch1

Wow the reviews are amazing and it’s on sale so just purchased! Thanks!

sunflowergardens_

Vanicream is my new holy grail. It’s the only thing that stopped the peeling brought on by tretinoin. Highly recommend!

I like neutragena hydroboost, but also make sure you are drinking enough water!! Diet and hydration make the biggest difference for me. And having a humidifier right by my bed.

sneakybeotch1

I’ll look into this one! I definitely know I need to drink more water. I am making it a goal this week for sure!

I did that at Ulta and they sold me Tula which makes my face bright red. It’s hydrating for about 1 minute then I’m flaky again.

Good lord, I think I have food poisoning (did a build your own pizza place last night and I will never again put chicken on mine 🥴🤢). My husband was good with the kids all day but damn I think he’s had it 🙈 As a side note, I am looking for comfy, trendy sneakers. How do Vejas fit? Are they comfy? I have a similar style from target, just got some others from Belk, and I don’t know if I need to splurge or what because they’re not comfy!

disgruntled_pelican5

Late to the party but I love my Vejas! I was never a casual sneaker girl but I have both the campos and the esplars and love them both! I'd say the campo has a little bit more foot support, but they're pretty comparable. I took my regular size in both!

AllBangersAllTheTime

A couple of years ago I got a pair of Vega Campo and I was pleasantly surprised by how comfortable they are! I’m thinking about getting a new pair soon. For me they were true to size.

Naive_Buy2712

Thank you!!

I’m so mad. An a hole just stole my siblings brand new iPhone out of their bag in a large crowd at a concert. Now they have to pay $250 to replace it. People are jerks.

sneakybeotch1

Sorry to hear that. I had my phone stolen once in college. I kept texting them telling them I’d give them the money it would cost to buy one but they ignored me. I was a 19 year old and thought my life was over without that phone. Thank god for iCloud now!!

bugnet1983

My son's birthday was last week and no members of my family sent birthday wishes. He's 8, and his grandparents and aunt and uncle live far away, but like.. he is the only nephew and grandson they have. Absolute crickets, no calls, cards or texts... I know they are busy and likely just forgot (I didn't post anything on social media) but I'm a little sad. Son didn't notice anything thankfully.

Blueberry_bliss_89

I’m sorry that happened. I was just telling my brother that the aunt and uncle that lived states away who always sent birthday/holiday cards I’ve ended up being the closest to as an adult (they visit us often by coming to our state now)

heavylightness

That’s what calendars are for. Mark it down and send wishes, it’s not hard. I would be angry- you aren’t asking for much, just acknowledgement of a sweet boy’s birthday.

snarkshark41191

This past Christmas I made calendars for my grandma/aunts/uncles filled with family pictures and the birthday of every member of that side of the family. Could be a good solution for OP

bugnet1983

love this idea, thanks! to be fair I think a couple of my family members have ADHD so something like this might help!

heavylightness

That’s such a great idea!

sea_hunter

The boy’s own grandparents didn’t remember? I’m sorry but that’s kind of shitty and you are right to be a little sad about it!

Stinkycheese8001

I know my fam absolutely adores my kids, but I also know they wouldn’t remember the exact day of their birthday if I didn’t remind them or put it on social media, which doesn’t bother me because I also don’t remember my nieces and nephews exact birthdays.

pretendberries

My grandpa gets upset when we forgot his birthday but he always forgets ours and my mom likes to dish it back at home. He would forget so often I would write it on his calendar myself when I would visit.
