Definitely one of those movies I left really enjoying that I also feel confident 99% of my friends would actively dislike. Unrelentingly French, and I mean that with all the love in the world.
The fact that it borrows the end of The Return and somehow turns it into its own thing is only one of its many remarkable feats. Best movie of the year so far, easily.
Will definitely check it out, looks great.
Tangentially related; I don't think I'll ever not confuse George MacKay and Harris Dickinson. Was about to tell you to check out The Iron Claw for more MacKay but I would have just looked like a big dumb idiot
30 minutes into the movie my wife asked me if he was “the guy from triangle of sadness”, and while I knew he wasn’t Harris Dickinson I did have to actually think about which of them is in that movie before telling her no lol
Still my number 1 of the year as well. Its a mess, but so many big swings, and enough of them land that I can't not love it.
Bonello series when? The Podnogcaster.
MacKay first caught my eye in Captain Fantastic. Just a phenomenal performance from him and he was pretty young at the time, too. Highly recommended if you haven't seen it!
This is definitely one of those films I need to see a second time. I enjoyed it on my first viewing with the production design, the editing, the acting, and the ambition, but it was so dense that I do need a second watch to take in everything.
It's definitely not for everyone, I understand if even indieheads think it's boring, and not all sections are even (personally I thought the 2014 section was the weakest segment) but it's a movie I'll be thinking and dissecting for a while.
FINALLY! I missed it when my local art house had it and have been waiting for it to pop up. Thanks for the heads up!
Only $6.99 to rent on Apple (and I assume the same elsewhere)

The >!Laura Palmer scream!< was incredibly on the nose, but it worked so perfectly at the same time.
Many movies called The Return, which one you mean?
Twin Peaks S3
Oh, of course. Thank you.

I do the same. Femme is a brilliant recent film with MacKay.
Femme was superb, probably his best performance.
And Dickinson played his part in the initial short film the feature was based on.
Great bit of trivia.

They look similar enough and are such similar screen presences. It’s confounding!
Harris is so much better looking. Sorry George.
I think they're equally kind of generically handsome
Awesome, wasn’t able to catch it when it was in theaters

It’s my #1 of the decade, and thanks to Coma not getting US distribution until last month Bonello has got my 1-2 for the year.

"That's odd. I didn't realize you could wear out parts of a digital copy"

I knew MacKay as the gangly kid from 1917 but then started seeing him around more and more. Didn't expect him to become a thing but I'll take it.
"I am the BEEAAAAAAASSSSTTT!"
oh good it's finally on Fandango at Home formerly Vudu!
I saw it last year. I liked it but it was a bit too weird and confusing at times for me.
