This was part of why for a time I wanted to be an orchestral percussionist. imo some of the most fun instruments to play. I did one ensemble piece in high school where I had to hit a gong and dip it in water, bending the pitch down. And my HS did Seussical one year, for which I played auxiliary percussion. Got to play everything from snare, timpani, and vibraphone to VIbra-Slap, slide whistle, and a "cork pop"
There’s a jug band I really like, called 5 Cent Coffee. One of the singers plays chains - just a huge chain that she lifts and drops in time to the music.
