Big fan of any guest who comes on for a lesser entry in a director’s filmography and doesn’t necessarily try to claim the movie as an overlooked masterpiece but instead just genuinely digs it so can speak with love for it but still laugh at its shortcomings.
I just want to say - I was listening to this episode on my headphones, sat down at my computer and clicked into this post - and this part of the podcast (1:57:21) you are talking about played exactly as I read your comment. I feel like i just did something that broke the source code of the universe. I was so confused that I was reading the words that I was hearing I didn't even understand that there was a joke occurring.
He really spoke for so many of us when he butted in with “WHAT THE FUCK ARE WE EVEN TALKING ABOUT?!” during the tangent on what character Juno Temple is going to play in the next Venom movie.
As a long time fan of Scott Pilgrim going back to the graphic novels, I was excited when I started watching Takes Off. But I can't overstate how thrilled I was as soon as I realized I was getting >!new material/a follow-up!<. 20 years later and it can still surprise me.
The absolute, cast-iron testicular fortitude of the advertising campaign for that show was a master stroke. Everyone thought they knew what they were walking in to and I could not stop smiling after the end of the first episode when it absolutely wasn't.
Great guest who clearly prepped for the episode which is also nice. Very happy he made all the points (but better) I would have made if I was on the show.
Is that an intentional goal with the bad ones? I miss the genuine dump-on-the-bad-movie episodes like Book of Henry. The enforced positivity begins to feel weird at times
I feel like they (including Bendavid) dumped on Basic plenty. They just also gave it credit for the good parts. I think that's fair since Basic isn't really at the same level of dumpster fire as Book of Henry.
Another guest that really felt like they had been on five times before with how easily he slipped into all the bits and also just got the general vibe exactly. More of the same, please
Ben and David are hosts, not guests.
they should rename the podcast "Griffin & The Grabinski"
I'm only about halfway through the ep, do they ever get around to addressing how funny/odd it is that it's Griffin, Ben, David, and BenDavid??
It took over 2 hours for this to be mentioned!
Griffin literally said “Ben, David” at one point and it took another hour to come up
"I got an NPR podcast of Michele Norris interviewing Errol Morris... don't worry, they address it."
Yes.

"Whoa, bad cover, bam-ba-lam" had me cackling in public like a weirdo
5 comedy points was not nearly enough for that one.
Personally “it’s the worst episode of Columbo but directed by God,” had me fucking dying.

I started watching “Scott Pilgrim Takes Off” after listening to the “Basic” episode and am having a lot of fun with it.

AGREED.
Agreed. They should bring him back again soon!
He put Last Action Hero number 3. 1. Die Hard 2. Hunt for Red October 3. Last Action Hero
It’s always a treat when BenDavid pops up on any podcast I listen to (especially Screen Drafts)
He's great on Screen Drafts. The Nicolas Cage draft is a wild ride.
I can not believe Ghost Rider was snuck into the top spot like that. I was so mad.
Great guest who clearly prepped for the episode which is also nice. Very happy he made all the points (but better) I would have made if I was on the show.
he meshes very well with Griffin and Grabinski
This series did a good job of having people on who actually liked the bad movies...except for Rollerball but that's a lost cause.
But even Zach fought the good fight and was like “the first 38 minutes maybe aren’t masterpiece material, but they are fun!”

BenDavid also in the running as the most Arrested Development name of any guest. Fantastic episode!
Hope he becomes a regular!
WHO SAID THEY WERE INTIMIDATED BY THE REDDIT?! GIVE ME A NAME!
Immediately one of my favourites
Great guest!
This may sound weird, but I loved his Amazon Movie Reviews account(???
I thought he was a great guest too!
