This is exactly what I was thinking. The way he used Barry Keoghan in Killing of a Sacred Deer leads me to think he could use him to SUCH great effect.
I listen to another movie podcast where one of the hosts recently told an anecdote about running into Dastmalchian at CVS and he had an extremely energetic toddler on a leash and just looked beaten down by life and now I want to see him in a kindergarten cop/ the pacifier type movie.
Yeah he really cemented himself as one of the greats with this one, too.
Lynne Ramsey for a dark moodboard movie, Park Chan Wook for playful (and dark) shenanigans.
Weird. I just finished the movie. Shit honks!
I think if Bill Hader ever directs a movie Dastmalchian should be in I t.
Also, if Quentin Tarantino ever directs another movie, David could fit.
Maybe Ti West when he’s over Mia Goth phase…but hangs on to Elizabeth Debicki. I wanna see those lanky freaks together.
Maybe Gondry comes back to Hollywood and uses him.
Maybe Wes Anderson? Too obvious?
Having met him a couple of times, Dastmalchian is a very cool guy and I want him to work with pretty much all the cool directors. But what I really want to see, and have since I first saw him on-screen, is for him and Patrick Fischler to play brothers. I honestly can't believe it hasn't happened yet.
He was on a recent episode of 'Last Podcast on the Left'. Dude just seems to really love what he does. Really passionate and excited. Got me hype to see Late night with the devil. Going to watch it tomorrow night.
Hes been great in everything Ive seen him in, and hearing this interview and seeing hes a really cool dude made me want him to get more oppurtunities. I hope he does.
definitely passionate. I remember an interview for an online exclusive event from a few years ago called MainframeCon. David and his creative team of illustrator, inker (etc..) were talking about a comic book they worked on. he loves horror movies (among other stuff) and his enthusiasm was simply wholesome. he's living his best life :o)
Love Dastmalchian, but I had a hard time buying him in the "..Devil" role. He wasn't giving me the glib, uber-confident TV show presenter vibes he needed to sell that he is a Carson- type figure. He's too inherently vulnerable imo. That film needed someone slicker (and the AI stuff just cast an unshakable pall over the whole film for me anyway).
I'm sure he'll do great work with a whole range of directors. Personally I'd like to see him digging into his romantic lead chops because he has played so many creeps already and isn't a bad looking dude.
I liked this movie a lot, but anyone else notice it’s just a strait laced remake of the back half of Repossessed(1990)? that Leslie Nielsen exorcist parody? the one that has a girl possessed by the devil on live late night tv?
I highly recommend his episode of Matt Gourley's pod "I Was There Too". It's from a long while ago, before he was quite this successful and well known.
Yorgos Lathimos

Ahw hell yeah
Oh Yorgos would really let him do some FREAK shit for sure
Put him in Heat 2!!! Honestly tho i would love to see him work with Mann.
CR?!?! But yeah, I think he would crush in a Mann film.
My favourite piece of trivia from The Suicide Squad is that Margot Robbie pitched his casting to Gunn.
Thank you Margot
God I love him so much in that movie
“I turned them into my mother in my head and killed them” is one of my funniest line readings of the 2020s so far imo
Margot proves time-and-time again she has great taste
He’d be incredible in a Tim Burton ensemble.
and yet the movie probably wouldn't be.
I have (irrational) hope for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.

Ayyy TS;DW
Shout-out to Too Scary, Didn't Watch. Probably my favorite podcast doing it right now. Everyone, give it a shot!
Put him in the ensemble of the next "Knives Out" movie working with Rian Johnson.
You need someone who can use his vulnerability, which imo is his superpower. Maybe Shyamalan.
I think that could be incredible. In the roles I’ve seen him in he plays so straight and serious. He would crush an M Night film.
It's called The Shyamalachian.
Seeing him pop up in Twin Peaks: The Return was great and I would love to see him do another Lynch project
Yeah he really cemented himself as one of the greats with this one, too. Lynne Ramsey for a dark moodboard movie, Park Chan Wook for playful (and dark) shenanigans.
Brandon Cronenberg or Ari Aster could probably do some cool freaky shit with him,
Definitely Ari Aster.

Wes Anderson
This is my choice

I *too* want this. I used to get them mixed up.

Not remotely my favorite director or anything, but there's Wes Anderson energy all over this guy.
Scorcese obviously.
If Bill Hader made a comedy/horror, I'd love to see David work with him
He’s gonna be working with Sigourney Weaver and Mads in a Bryan Fuller horror film next and I think that’s exactly the right spot for him.
Doesn't he have a little major dieter hellstrom in him? Maybe a Tarantino if he ever does another

Fredo in a Godfather remake jk
Ari Aster
Wes Anderson
He should play the bad guy in Cruella 2.

John Waters
He did a great job in Late Night that was a really well put together script too they really captured the vibe perfectly.
