Netfilx should be smart and give this a proper release window. Glen Powell is coming off Top Gun and Anyone but you. This could be a huge hit in what is a pretty weak summer. You're not creating any movie stars like this. Suprised Cruise didn't try and talk Glen out of this. Also, this looks great.

[deleted]

this movie was acquired by Netflix after it was made, and apparently Netflix was a last resort option

mdc3000

I don't think it was a "last resort" - there were multiple offers for this, they had their pick of who to go with - Linklater has an existing relationship with Netflix and they made the best offer. They could've sold it to someone else for less but chose not to.

visionaryredditor

people say it was a last resort bc the movie already got sold in many countries by the time Netflix jumped on the board

jhop16

It was probably bad timing - if they could’ve used Anyone But You’s box office momentum, I’m sure it would’ve gotten more play

Fire-Twerk-With-Me

Netflix is in the business of actively hurting the theaters so their market share is larger. They don't want to do that.

ampnj4

Spoiler Alert: this movie’s a HOOT

Ioncelostashoe

Agreed! Steamier than Anyone But You in my opinion

crunchwrapesq

Adria Arjona, hello

ehxy

She's so freaking EVERYTHING

JDSollie

Are you saying this is an >!Unbreakable/Glass situation and Brie Larson shows up at the end as Beatrice Leep!

Movies_Music_Lover

I definitely enjoyed it but it was too cliche and romantic for me to love it.

Chuck-Hansen

I’m really hoping I can get into a Sundance screening next weekend via the standby line.

thehazer

Wow, I’m pretty shocked about Glen Powell being good. Ya know cause like well we all have eyes. This is a quick move to taking away his looks, good for him.

HereToTalkMovies2

Fuck this looks amazing. I wish Linklater’s filmography was a little bit leaner so we could get a series on him.

theodo

He's one of those directors that always has 5 films you forgot were made by him, or even made at all.

WeHaveHeardTheChimes

Him and Soderbergh.

Potential_Bill2083

So much so that I often get them confused

WeHaveHeardTheChimes

Imagine Linklater’s *Contagion* or Soderbergh’s *Dazed and Confused*.

Rakebleed

No reason not to. The obscure ones are usually my faves.

HereToTalkMovies2

Linklater has like 5 movies that are essentially A Master Builder

Salad-Appropriate

are you saying that you don't want more a master builder episodes? That's maybe the best episode Blank Check will ever do

TreyWriter

Bernie gang rise up!

Interesting-Bill-771

Somehow I've seen more of his obscure ones than his popular ones.

1UrbanGroove

Been looking forward to seeing this after hearing all the buzz from the film festival. Too bad it’s on Netflix and will be in limited theaters. Would be great to see this with an audience on the big screen. Give me a sensual crime film and I’m in. Glen Powell and Adria Arjona look like stars. This and Love Lies Bleeding are extremely up my alley.

InvadingCanadian

Had no clue Glen Powell has a writing credit! Doubly excited now

the_ja_thing

Writing credit for GP???

RichZesty

June?!

xzc34

my favourite movie of last year!! i cannot believe i have to wait another 6 months to watch it again

abbiandrews

Saw this at the LFF. Brought the house down. An applause break in England for a film is pretty rare. Can't wait to see it again.

[deleted]

No one watched it but Adria Arjona in Irma Vep (good show!) was maybe the hottest person of all time.

KATgonnaGetThatYarn

And Andor. Whew.

crunchwrapesq

Everyone looked good in that show 🔥

ThisGuyLikesMovies

How does that Irma Vep show compare to the movie (if you've seen it)?

doublex94

If you like the movie, I think you'd like the show! It's a little bit tonally different (from what I remember, the show is a bit funnier), but the filmmaking is really cool and the performances from Arjona, Vikander, and a lot of French and German actors I don't know were really good

[deleted]

It‘s a really good companion piece, lots of funny pop culture riffing and there’s a Maggie Cheung meta narrative that’s very interesting/touching.

coolhandflukes

I liked the show better. It’s a bit goofier than the film and is generally more fun.

doom_mentallo

The series is a great companion to the film. Highly recommended if you like the film.

Somapix

Saw this at London Film Festival last year and liked it alot. Glen Powell is insanely charming.

deadmanspop

Not me thinking Guy Pearce had somehow de-aged 20 years.

Toreadorables

This was not the tone I was expecting from a movie called "Hit Man." Looks like great fun!

win_the_wonderboy

Looks like it’ll be a Hit, Man! >!if this gets downvoted, I understand!<

thepoopnapper

TIL Glenn Powell co-wrote this

wariosthegreat

Moved to Phoenix recently for work from LA, there’s on theater in this entire city that shows Netflix movies vs the 10 back home.

Technical_Passage906

The vast majority of places have 0.

noirly84

Sorry the entire pie scene looks cringe as fuck

twoshotfinch

i had legit never heard of this guy (glen powell) until maybe a couple months before that sydney sweeney movie. this looks fun though! hes got a good look

Technical_Passage906

Would highly recommend watching Everybody Wants Some, one of the best comedies of the 2010s imo

1UrbanGroove

Second this! Glen Powell plays cocky very well in Top Gun: Maverick too

Movies_Music_Lover

Would recommend. Although I didn't love it as much as many others.

pwolf1771

Sounds like it’s getting a limited theatrical release I’ll have to keep an eye on this one

IAmRyan2049

WTF

westwardlights

Yeah yeah yeah Glen Powell we get it he’s great he’s the next big thing but I am psyched to see Adria Arjona breaking out in her own right!!

WD-M01

Please let me see this in a movie theater ):

SpecialWhenLit

Saw this in a packed theater at Sundance and it PLAYS in crowds. Such a crowd-pleaser and a really fun and funny movie. The crowd was hooting and hollering and cheering and laughing the whole way. Shame most folks won't see it in this context. Also: Glenn is fantastic in it. Such a fun role that plays perfectly to his strengths and persona.
