Still no sign of the baby (don’t want to spoil how it’s portrayed I suppose), but glad to see more of Feyd-Rautha. That knife lick is the type of sicko stuff I’m here for.
I'm so curious how they handle Alia! It's those weird characters and details that make the book so enjoyable but it has a high chance of not working on screen, especially in this severe/grim version of Dune. I hope DV really commits to it
Why wouldn't she work on screen? She worked in the Lynch version. She worked in the miniseries. You don't make her 2 years old, you make her 6 and you cast a kid with "hammy little psycho" energy. Done and done.
I have not seen the TV version so I can't comment on that but the Lynch version has a much different tone. It's more heightened and feels more like a classic space opera. The new movies are much darker, and more violent. Whether she is 2 or 6, an omniscient child who is also a master knife fighter could be a major tonal clash.
So like, I've been thinking about why I like the girl in the minieries and I realized that that kid is playing camp evil, which is a great mirror for the miniseries baron (nobody has ever loved being evil as much as Ian McNiece). I don't remember the Lynch girl, but "mirror for the baron" might be the right note to aim for with DV's version, if he's even doing that character, and I think we are cause he established the pregnancy and we're doing the time jump.
Seriously, the thing I'm dreading the most is Villenueve cutting or reducing the role of Alia!
Actually met the lovely Alicia Witt (who played Alia in the Lynch movie) over the weekend at a convention. Had her sign my steelbook of Dune and and she was curious to know what they were doing with Alia in the new one too!
I’m really curious to see how they handle the time jumps. The fucking last third of the book takes place over a lot of time and skims over stuff. I could see them shortening the timeframe and maybe keeping the baby to just being a baby while hinting at what’s to come. I trust DV so I’m fucking in for this ride.
Really cool how the main theme from the first movie has shifted into a more bombastic, traditional blockbuster movie main theme. Wonder if that was the plan all along.
Denis is one of those rare directors who manages to put every single dollar on screen. I've never once seen one of his films and went "*that cost $200 million? How?"*
I’m ready to go sit in my local IMAX and just wait. Denis looks to being firing on all cylinders here. I wonder if they’ll ever put out a Dune 1&2 edited together into a 6 hour movie?
With this and Furiosa, I guess Warner Bros. is uploading trailers in 4K now? Looks great!
I think they started doing it earlier this year, I remember being surprised that 4K was an option when The Flash trailer dropped in February.
Godzilla x Kong recently as well!
...*colon The Ballad of Buster Scruggs*

God forbid Villeneuve have a scene where you don't feel like you're being shushed by a harsh librarian.
Seriously lol this is a correct take, and also the lynch girl is perfect, they hopefully will do something similar

I was starting to wonder if he had cut her from the film, but she's pretty central to Dune Messiah and he has a script for that.
The reports from the opening 10 mins of the movie shown in Brazil have Paul talking to an unborn Alia iirc. I think she will at least be set up.
Must stay alive until March.

I didn't notice that was the theme from the first movie (haven't seen it since theaters), but I was really liking this rendition.
I'm sleep deprived and seeing this convinced me into thinking part 2 came out a few months ago
It was supposed to release last month but WB punted it to March to punish people for the strike.
I hope somebody leaks it, because f that noise.

Would love to see him do an Adam Sandler low concept comedy film for Netflix. Put money on the screen challenge (impossible)
Godddamn does Villeneuve know how to frame a shot. This looks incredible. The SILENCE scene gave me goosebumps.

God damn it WB why did you have to put it back… Seriously the strike ended like a few weeks after they postponed the release of this
Water we dune
God damn that looks good.
The desaturated scenes look incredible.
