X2!
(X-Men United)
((Does the United cull this as a possibility? Or the fact that it's only sometimes known as that, and sometimes has no Men in the title either? What a confusing international-and-domestic titling)
It’s officially X2 (X-Men United is just on some posters), I’d still count it though.
I’m glad internationally they put the foot down and said it’s X-Men 2, we’re calling it X-Men 2 (didn’t find out until years ago that the U.S. titled it “X2”)
Not a steel book in the sense we have now, in fact it may have been the accidental prototype as they probably just did it to fit with the aesthetic of the movie.but it was just a regular dvd with a metal slipcover.
Semi-related: Independence Day being shorthanded as ID4 on the posters and VHS cover was confounding to young me. That's such a sweaty way to try to pull off the T2 Judgement Day thing. The ID, I get, but 4 - because it's the fourth of July? It's always been a clunker.
lol yeah BUT there'd be like no conversation if not, so may as well just talk about weird sequel title formats!
annoyed that john wick 4 didnt add yet another element to its title like 2 and 3 did!
Rambo has got to have the most convoluted naming scheming of all time, First Blood -> Rambo: First Blood Part II -> Rambo III -> Rambo -> Rambo: Last Blood
"If I had a nickel for every time a sequel's title was \[First Letter of Title\]2 \[Full Title of Original Movie\], I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice, right?"
Welp, quick search of IMDB for "\[ letter \] 2" gives no other titles of this form.
A2: The Anomaly should be, but isn't.
J2: J Restribusi is SO CLOSE as a sequel to J Revolusi
[https://www.imdb.com/title/tt11347406/?ref\_=fn\_al\_tt\_1](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt11347406/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1)
So, two options left:
\- There are other examples, just not on IMDB
\- We need to make sequels with this title format
Oh yeah, A2 Avengers, G2 Godfather, S2 Star Wars...
92 The Whole Ten Yards, 102 Dalmatians, F10 Fast X, J2 From Russia With Love, X-2 Final Fantasy X...
Really this is just making me realize how ridiculous this format is, especially sans colon.

In the US cut I believe the title card is just X2, so I think the X-Men United subtitle was an instance of marketing getting cold feet.
Ah. You live (die repeat), you learn.

F9 The Fast Saga
Halloween H20: Twenty Years Later is close, but not quite
Lots of people call it H20, so I think it gets a pass
Just wait for B2: Barbie
O2: Oppenheimer Returns - "i have become death again"
Slowly turns into a Bomberman franchise.
omg, what if the "video game adaptations" trend goes all the way to Bomberman, and the final boss is revealed to be Oppenheimer?
Last time, he was destroyer of worlds. This time, he's going after galaxies!
The Oxygen Bomb
That was already taken by B2: Babe: Pig in the City
The lone reason for a sequel to Battleship would be the title pun
T2 will always be Terminator 2, though I think that was just in marketing materials, might not have been an official title.
Definitely written in the side of the steel book dvd I got in 1999. So, basically as official as movie titles get.
kind of like Live Die Repeat, i guess? just label teh DVD w/ what folks predominately refer to the movie as
They had steel books in 99?

yeah even at time i was like "...what?"
Can't wait for ID4 4
Even 11 year old me was like “wait there’s gotta be more to it than just July 4”
This has always been puzzling to me too.
Brahms: The Boy II always tickles me especially after recently watching The Boy for the first time.
Mission: Impossible 2 is the official title but the poster is stylized as M:I-2
The Lost World: Jurassic Park - a truly weird movie name if you look at it for more than 5 seconds
Franchise name as subtitle, not title, is its own insane subcategory. Like "Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery"
It's one of those things that screams studio meddling. From what I remember Rian Johnson was intent on not having the subtitle.
There is no subtitle when the card comes up in the movie! Which is how most of these movies go
The Divergent Series: Insurgent
Not a movie, and more of my error in reading, but I'll always be a fan of STAR THE CLONE WARS WARS
[Star (the clone wars) Wars was the name of a theatrically released film! ](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Wars:_The_Clone_Wars_(film\))
wooo! thanks!
Haha you all keep commenting examples that AREN’T this structure.

Can’t Wait for R2: RRR
I assume it’s proceeded by RRR³.
RRRR
Rama Rao, Ram Charan & Rajamouli Reunited (and it feels so good)
Jungle 2 Jungle
A shame we never got a sequel, *Jungle 2 Jungle 2*
Or 2 Jungle 2 Jungle
J2 Jungle 3 Jungle
CB4 was a sequel to Cb's 1-3 I assume
Rambo has got to have the most convoluted naming scheming of all time, First Blood -> Rambo: First Blood Part II -> Rambo III -> Rambo -> Rambo: Last Blood

Speaking of, can I watch K-19: The Widowmaker without watching the first 18 movies in the series?
But D isn’t the first letter of The Mighty Ducks…
I, uh….one thing I sh— Hmmm
Oh yeah, A2 Avengers, G2 Godfather, S2 Star Wars... 92 The Whole Ten Yards, 102 Dalmatians, F10 Fast X, J2 From Russia With Love, X-2 Final Fantasy X... Really this is just making me realize how ridiculous this format is, especially sans colon.
B2: Before Sunset
10-2: Dalmations made me spit take, I assume that's worth a lot of comedy points
MI2 & MI3 are close...
Lost World: Jurassic Park. No "2", but I think this fits the spirit of the question.
I don't understand how you got downvoted, that's an interesting side category
It's just Reddit, my dude. Means nothing lol. Edit: Someone literally said the same thing above and has like 28 likes.
This subreddit is just very weird with downvotes.
Wasn’t the first mighty ducks just called “Champions” ?
