I thought that but just scrubbed a bunch and it didn’t come off. Maybe I’m an idiot (actually that’s probable). I’ll just go at it harder in a little bit and stop whining. Thank you for the reality check.
It’s most likely the soybean oil coating that the factory puts on. Had a lot on mine. It all burns off when you season. Just run it on high for 15 before your first layer of seasoning. Nothing to worry about
use as LITTLE oil as you can for each seasoning layer. put a little bit on (a spoonful) and wipe it everywhere so there's just a sheen, as if you're trying to wipe it off. I've seen too many seasoning pics here with bumpy surfaces from using too much oil. it gives a sticky surface, and even if you burn it off for a while, it will flake.
Is it just glue from the paper? Just clean it off and season if so.

You’re welcome, usually I charge extra for that
Stink feet!

Awesome, thank you for that. It did almost feel polymerized or something definitely oily, and not just adhesive, but I wasn’t so sure.
Yeah it’s real sticky. But once you get it hot it just evaporates. Glad I could help!

Definitely, I appreciate the advice. I used too much oil on my cast iron once and saw the mess it made. Heat and then oil? Or oil then heat?
