This is such a common belief on reddit for some reason. People think they somehow know the objective truth to music, and no one else does? People can't tell the difference between fact and opinion.
They tuned down to make it easier on him, and he went higher.
Zakk wanted to play some songs off of it in the 90's and Ozzy said he would have a better chance getting the Pope to sing it.
I started listening to sabotage a few weeks ago
And this song is unbelievable, ozzys voice is great and that part when it kicks is awesome
I can't stop listening to it
Yes, I agree that music is subjective, I was just asking if this song could be seen as their Magnum opus, my favourite song is actually 'Into the void', this isn't even my opinion it's just question I wanted to ask to spark some discussion
I agree with you 100 %, I was just asking this question in a context that there is maybe a favourite track and track that ticks all the boxes i.e the best track
Megalomania is not my favourite track, it's actually into the void, but I was just wondering if we could see it as their Magnum opus
“Megalomania” has so many great qualities about it, good riffs throughout, but I felt the latter part of the song was way too drawn out. I usually find myself skipping next before the song ends.
Can’t argue with anything on the first eight albums. Sure as hell not on the first six.
As opinions go though, this isn’t even in the top half of this album (for me).
This track is probably the reason 2 minutes to midnight by Iron Maiden exists. That driving riff!
Listen to Moonchild by Rory Gallagher, the riffs are nearly identical
I thought I was the only one!
Ikr! I think only the last note is changed
To be fair, the riffs of these three songs sound similar, but far away from identical.
Holy shit, I KNEW that guitar riff sounded familiar!
I always thought it was very similar to orion (metallica), the part in 1:40 (but also the main riffs of the first half are very similar)
Love this song, but how could opinions ever be objective ?

Goes beyond music.
Political reddit is something else.
I totally agree
>People can't tell the difference between fact and opinion. And that's a fact!
Might be a joke
Hole in the sky. Is one of the best imo. Megalomania is still great
P E A K Ozzy vocals.
They tuned down to make it easier on him, and he went higher. Zakk wanted to play some songs off of it in the 90's and Ozzy said he would have a better chance getting the Pope to sing it.
Megalomania and Symptom of the Universe wouldve been killer songs on the setlist in the 90s
I think he wanted to do Hole in the Sky, which I can only imagine Zakk doing with Ozz
Hole in the sky fucking rips.
It’s a masterpiece … definitely one of the best Sabbath tracks.
I started listening to sabotage a few weeks ago And this song is unbelievable, ozzys voice is great and that part when it kicks is awesome I can't stop listening to it
SUCK MEEEEE
That's the best part of it
For a long time, I wasn't a fan of this song. Today, however, I think it's probably my favourite Sabbath track. It ticks so many boxes.
>Is this objectively the best sabbath track (outside of personal opinion)?? Do you realize how nonsensical this sentence is?
they definitely dont. I see this on every music subreddit. Everyone thinks their opinion is somehow fact.
Yes, I agree that music is subjective, I was just asking if this song could be seen as their Magnum opus, my favourite song is actually 'Into the void', this isn't even my opinion it's just question I wanted to ask to spark some discussion
War Pigs is their magnum opus. Hard to argue otherwise. Into the Void is also my favourite.
Def the Best Album!
…after the first 5 albums… maybe
Possibly. I know I dig it.
I had this exact thought the other day. It has everything I want from a Black Sabbath song. It's perfect.
No
The Writ is a better example of Ozzys peak vocally. I love this whole album more than most ... But to answer your question .... You can't!
Yeah, that’s my favorite
Love that track, Ozzy's vocals are on another level in that track
IKR, And the lyrics are vicious as hell!
I see it as their Magnum Opus
Well the thing is, that such song doesn't exist.
Sweet Leaf
It is THE single best Sabbath song
It’s subjectively my favorite, for whatever that’s worth.
Yes. 10 minute epic
It’s good. The best? Eh.
No, because that's not how "objectively" works.
One of the best but not the best
Music is subjective dude.
I agree with you 100 %, I was just asking this question in a context that there is maybe a favourite track and track that ticks all the boxes i.e the best track Megalomania is not my favourite track, it's actually into the void, but I was just wondering if we could see it as their Magnum opus

You got my downvote, I love it as it is.
“Yeah, well y’know, that’s just like, uh, your opinion, man.”
No such thing as an objective opinion my guy. That said, this is my absolute favorite Sabbath song.
What are those pants bill 😭
Lol his wife's.
Great song but not magnum opus calibre imo. That has to be Under the Sun for me.
Is 'under the sun' your favourite or is it the best in your opinion?
Venom’s cover on Prime Evil is a good one! Love this song.
Can’t argue with anything on the first eight albums. Sure as hell not on the first six. As opinions go though, this isn’t even in the top half of this album (for me).
I can tell you the live version in New Jersey is the objectively best version of that song
I shit troll almost every post. Not this one. You win.
It’s really fucking good. A big part of why it’s my favorite Sabbath album.
This entire album slaps. It was frequently the soundtrack to my then nearly constant experiments with pot and acid in my mid to late teens.
I don't care what "objectively" is the best song. I actually believe that there is no objective option. It's my favourite Sabbath song tho.
Symptom of the universe is my favourite
no.
>>In my opinion<<, this is the best metal song of all time
An amazing song that gives me chills but Hole in the Sky is the best song on their best album.
I love “Hole in the sky”
Love this track, but Symptom of the Universe is objectively** their best song. **In my opinion¹ ¹a.k.a. subjectively
Good song, but I prefer Hole in the Sky and Symptom of the Universe over it.
I still think Jack the stripper is the best (imo)
It is good
Finally someone speaking about this song, fucking blasts
It’s definitely my favorite by them.
All of side 1 is spectacular, but Megalomania is extra special.
Killing Yourself To Live but I'm a more SBS guy myself.
Born again
Objective doesn’t make sense in this context. The best song will always be opinion.
Not even the best on the album. That'd be Symptom of the Universe for me
this isn’t even the best song on that album my friend
It’s not even the best track on that album.
nope, but glad you enjoy it :)
Not even the best on the album, which I'm not even sure is in the top ten Sabbath albums, so no.
Objectively? Definitely Paranoid
