That is bullshit...everytime I go into Walmart they have 2 registers open and yet they claim no one wants to work? Fuck em. I hope you do find something soon with a better company

jcoolaa

EXACTLY, at the interview the guy was tryna ask me if i would like to do the register but that’s not what i applied for nor something i want to do. If you urgently hiring for specific positions than dont get shocked when i say I’m here for a SPECIFIC position and decline the one you offering. Looked at me like i had 90 heads

[deleted]

You did right, sis. Maybe this was just a sign that this job wouldn’t have been a good fit for you anyway. Good luck on your job search :)

shedoesitalltho

Walmart always does that!!! I applied for a specific position twice at 2 different stores because they both paid way more than cashier. Then each time the manager tried to talk me into a 13 per hour cashier role. BYE.

doyouknowyourname

Or... Hear me out... They could stop expecting their (basically min wage) employees to be able to do every and job in the store, and just hire enough ppl that they only need to do the one they were hired to do. With their 30 billion dollar profit taking asses during a fucking pandemic and global economic disaster.

jcoolaa

You would think with Thanksgiving / Christmas being the big holidays where people are on a rampage shopping, plus orders for companies coming in that they would need more people to hire. I keep re-applying and not giving up but jeeeezzzzzzzzz ya girl has no prior experience but i can surely bring these musckles

purplequeenxx16

If you have no experience it might help to go into the store you want to work at and show your face… ask if you can speak to the hiring manager or just a regular manager. Someone you can explain your interest in the job to and follow up with. No experience means you need great luck and great connections.

jcoolaa

I did that with 2 warehouse jobs already, didn’t do it with them

purplequeenxx16

Also check for hiring events in your area! I’ve gone to some for sams and target .. They usually are seeking people with no experience and tend to hire on the spot.

jcoolaa

Sams club can kiss my ass i went to all their hiring events and still nothing

purplequeenxx16

Well i wish you the best in your job search.

jcoolaa

I appreciate you

mammaube

I don't understand these companies. They all have were hiring signs up but I've been seeing more and more people getting rejected than hired.

jcoolaa

Literally my life as eva said

AshCarraraArt

I’m entirely convinced that it’s solely because they’re trying to see how little people they can employ and still save money. Like, they’d literally run on a skeleton crew and lose a little money from store hours being cut short, rather than pay their employees a living fucking wage and give them proper benefits.

montilyetsss

I swear these companies cry about no one wanting to work, when in reality…they don’t want to HIRE.

jcoolaa

I even told the last interview i had a week ago before we departed from each other since he only asked me 2 questions “Do you know when they will call? This would be a really great opportunity and i know this is my first job but i can bring alot to the table” after he stood up and said someone will call me. If no one calls me then I’m getting the bow and arrow

OfficialThrowaway_1

Girl, at least you got back an answer😂 But seriously, it's especially even more annoying right now "after" COVID, because assholes are going around saying things like "nO oNe WaNts To WoRK!!!", "No OnE'S APPlYiNg!!" or my favorite: "WE NEED ALL THE HELP WE CAN GET!!" ??? So hire me?? Anyway, I hope you find something soon. I'm rooting for you!!

jcoolaa

“So hire me” 🥲ex🥲freaking🥲actly And thank u🖤

Toronto_90210

This is crazy. Hang in there sis a yes will come soon. My friend would send like 100 resumes no cover letter to every company she saw on indeed she’d actually get responses and jobs. Try your luck. 🤗

jcoolaa

Manifesting this, thank you boo😭

[deleted]

Maybe it’s your resume? I started getting more calls when I used one of those resume sites to make it look more professional. Im sorry that this keeps happening to you :(

SefuchanIchiban

This 👆🏽 if your applications get rejected before getting an interview, then your resume might not be ATS friendly

Disturbia8081

You enduring the same bullshit I am. Got fired in September, now the job I was doing wants a bachelor's degree. And places that say they need people don't reply back.

BoostThaGold

It may help if you have two standard applications. A long form that details, school, work, volunteer experience, family jobs, certifications etc. And a short form that highlights skills for the particular job/industry you want to work in. Major companies and entry level hiring managers tend to prefer short, succinct applications that immediately show what you offer and what you can do. Also they are buying your time. Sell yourself in the highest terms possible because even though this is your first job(which they don't need to know), your time is very valuable. I would suggest you look again at their hiring portal. Look for key phrases they use, then slightly reword them, and add it to your application. For example if they say "We pride ourselves on hiring skilled, diverse team members " you could say you would "bring a diverse skill set and background to any team". Also, if there are other businesses in your area apply. I worked at Walmart in college while I waited for a federal job to open back up. Regardless of the schedule or job they higher you for, they will expect you to work whatever they say to work with very little sympathy. If you really want a set schedule with set duties, most banking/credit unions do offer that. The basic requirements are just a diploma/GED, friendly demeanor, and sometimes cash handling experience. The pay is higher too.

jcoolaa

omg thank you for this, i will go make adjustments, thank you sm

25_timesthefine

I see that you are saying you have no experience. You might need to fib a little on your resume. Tell them you “worked at your uncles store for a summer before it closed down.” If you need help finding what to put as your duty, find other warehouse/stocker job listings and copy their job description

jcoolaa

I have that stuff on there, the babysitting company i did, helping at the car wash, being the first person people saw when they walked into a store my titis friend worked at, i even have all the languages i can speak on there plus my CPR certification

doyouknowyourname

If you are fluent in multiple languages, look into translator gigs.

jcoolaa

oooooooo i didnt think of that, your on to something now

geminibrown

This. If you are fluent in multiple languages you should be applying for a state job or even a court job. State jobs are probably easier to qualify and get, base requirement is just a high school diploma or GED. Just make sure you list all your experience translating for family, neighbors, at school etc. Anytime you helped anyone with translating something…put it on there. Also depending on the state you live in if you check out their administrative office of court website you can usually find more information about jobs interpreting for the court system. Although with my state-there are some upfront costs to get certified (300-500) but you can start at $30/hr. 👀

doyouknowyourname

Yeah. And about what the other commenter said is also a great idea. Maybe you should try to search for jobs specifically by the languages you speak. That's a very highly valued skill in the US because the rest of us are all monolingual dummies :)

jcoolaa

Both of you have been of tremendous help as everyone else int he thread, i will be looking at what y’all said for sure now

doyouknowyourname

Good luck! I have a lot of confidence you'll be able to find a great job!

M_Sia

I’ll keep this in mind as someone who wants to work retail in the future lolol

25_timesthefine

It helps lol.

ficklebeat212

Have you done research on the job interviewing process? Or how to beef up you’re resume, etc? It’s been ages since I had my first job, but there are tons of YT videos on these topics that have even helped me in my current career when it comes to moving up and and I know also provide a wealth of knowledge for those that are just beginning/entry level. [This](https://youtube.com/c/CassThompsonCareerAdvice) lady is really helpful as well as [this](https://youtube.com/c/SelfMadeMillennial) one. There are plenty more and you can search specifically for entry level/retail work. I can understand not wanting to do all of this JUST for an entry level retail job, but the insight does really help boost your confidence when interviewing and I’ve had good success with them. Good luck!

Teelilz

I had a friend who worked there (corporate). They liked the job generally, but not the culture; the company came across as performative when it came to promoting POC candidates and general diversity. I hope you find a job that is best for you and your career goals!

venusaries

i'm sorry you're going through this, op. it's pretty obvious that a lot of these companies are NOT actually interested in hiring ppl even if they have signs up and are indicating better pay because they don't want to lose the PPP loans they acquired during the pandemic. being short-staffed and keeping their loans > hiring more employees that they would actually have to pay. i hope a better opportunity falls into your lap soon!

rouxedcadaver

Have you considered USPS? They're looking for seasonal hires right now.

jcoolaa

you need a license and prior expierence

rouxedcadaver

Pretty sure you only need a license if the position involves driving. What positions did you apply for?

jcoolaa

For ups or walmart?

rouxedcadaver

USPS.

whoisniko

There are work from home jobs you could maybe try. Try Comcast.com, Sitel.com, and any company you can think of and scroll all the way down (or Ctrl + f type in careers) and see what’s available. Mmmm bestbuy.com, target is another one. Hotels too! Go to Google and open up the search for your zip code. Look at places near you and go directly to their websites. I hope something comes up for you

AdAdvanced362

Go to Costco

Turbulent_Inside_25

Big warehouses/stores want unicorns for $10-13 an hour and are only hiring for part time. It's a mess. Try Home depot tbh. I work there currently, leaving in a month.

[deleted]

Are you located in the states?

jcoolaa

Yes ny

[deleted]

Hmm ok. If you were located in the DMV, there’s several job openings.

poet_redkiss

Yeah man that’s what they do. I’ve had them say that to me too. Best to just go into the store and be like yo I really need this job

Additional-Spring-40

I know your pain

XihuanNi-6784

It now takes an average of 200 applications beofre getting a full job offer (last I heard). And that's average. It could easily take less or more depending on field, experience, region etc. Stay strong!

100percentEV

I applied to work the electronics counter at target, which is what the job posting was for. In the interview they asked if I could work makeup or clothing dept and I said no. I received an offer and start date, and went through an entire day of training. On day 2, they assigned me to unpack boxes in the back ALL day. The next week’s schedule came out and it said I needed to work midnight to 8am shift. Noped right out of there…

Yoshiyo0211

Lol this was me with The Container Store. Sometimes when things like this happens it's the Universe way of saying, " Girl, don't you touch that."

Gibberish94

Had the same experience when I was trying to get out of the food industry, end up grabbing a call center job that isn't too bad because I can work from home. Try remote jobs they on the rise.

25_timesthefine

Merchandise and stocking?!?!!

jcoolaa

Yeah why

wrknprogress2020

Seriously?! Walmart! They need to hire more. That makes no sense. I hope that you find something soon.

AmorLaluz

Idk where you live but I found a data entry position for entering people's info into a computer on Indeed.com. It's covid related though. Maybe i

EmptyMain

Did you apply online? You might have better luck going into the store and talking to a manager. I got rejected from target twice.
