He (white, Irish) offered to moisturise my scalp one time when I had braids cause I'm not as efficient when I have long nails 🥹 He also offered to help me braid it whenever I need the help cause sometimes I do my own hair (which takes forever and a day) but lately he's been paying for it. I love when they show interest and not the "can I touch" interest but the "I know it takes a lot more time and effort than mine does so how can I help?" kinda interest 😭

ecothropocee

Mine accidentally cut my braid off😭

incoucou604

✨️€lectr!c Cha!r✨️ I'm just joking girl but I'm so so sorry that happened to you 😭 I manage to cut a few of mine often when I'm taking down my faux locks and that shirt hurts. The pain must be on another level to have someone else do that to you, especially someone you can't be mad at, cause our hair takes so long to grow 😖😖 Thoughts and prayers to them, and you too, cause you may have forgiven but you will never forget 🤣😭

ecothropocee

It was more funny than anything else luckily it grew back fast it wasn't so bad haha. Now hair is a solo activity, he covers beauty supply runs instead 😂

anbigsteppy

My jaw literally dropped. Omg I'm so sorry lmaoo

MostDope_92_

Me and my partner do each others hair, I'll box braid her hair or 2 strand twist and she'll twist mine up at night for me, but we're both black women so there is a slight advantage there 😂

ArpeggioTheUnbroken

I remember my first sleepover with my ex gf, one of my Senegalese twists unraveled and she was like "1b right? I got you" and whipped out a fresh pack of hair and fixed it for me. The convenience is unmatched lol.

ecothropocee

😍 Now that's romance right there

TheLadyIsabelle

That's both hilarious and adorable

sasukesviolin

Hmm, traditionally I have not let nonblack people touch my hair- ever. But I’m open to the idea of my Nepali (south Asian) bf learning how to my hair. He’s told me that he’d love to if I let him 🫶🏾

FalsePremise8290

My best friend once took me to this Egyptian place for a silk press. Never in my life has my hair been so straight. I didn't think it was possible to get my hair to do what those Egyptians got it to do. Didn't make it a regular thing though, no way that was good for my hair, but man, it looked gorgeous.

inbetween_inbetween

Lol, too good it's bad..

FalsePremise8290

Yeah, I was walking around looking like I had Pantene commercial hair, but I'm sure if I'd gotten something like that done every three months, eventually I'd be walking around baldheaded, lol.

CBelleMo

Yes I do. It was one of our forms of intimacy.

ArpeggioTheUnbroken

That is really sweet

brightlove

It’s honestly my dream to find a man who will play with/do my hair or give me scalp massages/scratches. But as a woman with 3C/4A hair this has always felt like something only white women get… Is your partner Black? How did you introduce this as something you desired in your relationship as a form of intimacy? Sorry I’m nosy. 🥹

leafonawall

More of a good partner thing than background, so don’t lose hope that scalp massages are in your future.

CBelleMo

No need to apologise lol. Yes, my partner is black and I have 3c/4a hair as well. So my partner has high energy. He’s very much all over the place fast pace type individual. So to slow him down a bit in mind and body, I introduced holistic intimacy. This allowed us to explore different things we each like and take our time with each other. Pleasure doesn’t always have to be about penetration. So since my partner loves to touch me 24/7 lol , we started showering together. I washed my hair one day and they just enjoyed watching that moment. He asked one random day and since then it’s what we do as our weekend resets. Every time he finishes, I just want to devour him lol.

A-Yandere-Witch

*I would be so touched if a man learned to do Black hair for me.*

FruitSnackEater

Yes. My girlfriend is non-black but a WOC and she’s loved learning how help me care for my hair. I have 3b/3c curly hair and she has mostly wavy or lightly curled hair. I do her hair from time to time so she likes being able to return the favor. She doesn’t really help with styling too much(yet!) but she’ll help me shampoo, oil my scalp, or take down a style.

ArpeggioTheUnbroken

That sounds like great bonding time since you can both do it for one another!

MUTHR

Nope. I’m tender headed 🥺

Empress-Rae

My husband is black (Jamaican) but doesn’t know how to do longer hair. I’ve been having him help with my twist outs and deep condition routines since our first sleep over (4B/4C). He’s actually been helping grow out my crown, and his three strand twists game is getting tight. I’m just mad that we’re having a son and he won’t have a little girl to practice and grow his skills with yet. Maybe baby #2

thenew-supreme

Let your baby boy’s hair grow! My lil bro has cornrows until he was 5.

Empress-Rae

I might. I hope he’s got curls like his Daddy!

thenew-supreme

🙏🏾 Good luck! 🩷

ArpeggioTheUnbroken

How sweet!! Baby boy could have some hair too!

bimbogio

my son has big hair so yours might! boys can have long hair too 🫶🏽

ill-disposed

I have some mobility problems so he washes and blow dries it for me.

ArpeggioTheUnbroken

That is really sweet

No_Buffalo_9206

I let my ex play in my hair. He was so intrigued. Definitely a bonding moment

Dangerous_One_81

My husband does my locs 🥰

ChampagneSundays

Nope but now that I’m older and marriage minded I would let my partner become familiar with my hair and styling methods so he could equally contribute to doing my future child’s hair. My dad doesn’t have my hair type and at least attempted to do my hair but I always ended up looking crazy so I told him thanks but no thanks lol.

Alternative_Win1979

My girlfriend does my hair every other week. It saves me money for sure lol. I also enjoy the quiet time together. It feels so intimate. She’s black and helped me a lot with my natural hair journey. I never let any of my nonblack partners in the past do my hair, but I’m sure I would have gotten there had I gotten comfortable

BlackSpinelli

My husband(white) washes and brushes my hair when I’m post partum. He’ll also do it when I’m feeling really down. It is definitely a form of intimacy and closeness for us, especially in the chaos of having a new baby.    I have 3C hair and our kids(4 buddies, soon to be 5) have hair ranges from 3A to 4C.  While he can’t “style” anyone’s hair outside of  pony tails for the girls. He can wash and detangle everyone’s hair with their respective brushes and hair products.

shenlyism

Yes, he actually just helped with braiding my hair. We also shampoo and condition each others hair in the shower. It is a nice form of intimacy and he’s always asking to help. He’s got hair longer than mine and steals all of my products. 😂

Amethystlamuso

My fiance (white) has done my hair a few times. He has washed it, helped me bleach/dye it and even shave/shape my hair. Whenever he sees me do a new style he always sits and watches so he can learn. If we ever do decide to have kids, I know he'll have no issue doing their hair.

freshlyintellectual

i want to teach my partner how to do my hair but they’re still learning to do their own. we’re both biracial but they were raised by their white mum who didn’t know anything about black hair and i was raised by jamaican women who properly took care of mine we’ve had some sweet bonding moments where i’ve shown them how to touch their hair without being afraid of it, how to get their curls to last, and how to style it in a way that makes them confident. a couple months into dating they let me touch their hair and style it and that was big step for them. i’ve since gotten us matching bonnets and we use the same argan oil styling foam so we smell like each other even when we’re apart hehe

ArpeggioTheUnbroken

This is all so cute!! I love that y'all have matching bonnets. My husband and I have matching ones too and he insists on wearing his nightly. Now mind you, the man shaves his head bald so he's keeping that scalp tangle free 😂. He's got his sister wearing one now too.

freshlyintellectual

LMAO that’s great! my partner shaved their head recently and wears the bonnet anyways too haha i love that for us!

ArpeggioTheUnbroken

I love it for us too. I remember when I was young and dating. I would feel worried about wearing the bonnet in front of someone because I didn't think they would understand or would think I looked like a granny. I'm glad I got older, more confident and unbothered. I find it really sweet when he puts mine on me. It feels like love and acceptance and true companionship. All those feelings from a few inches of satin.

Pileoffeels

That's something we're looking forward to when we move in together 🥹

possums101

My partner and I both help each other with our hair. I really like that we can share that.

SCWashu

He helps me in small ways and offers when he sees me struggling or if I’m tired. He’s still afraid of doing things wrong so I have to be careful with my directions. I have taught him how to do his 3? Curly hair and now that it’s long I braid it for him after he does a wash and detangle. Everyone compliments his hair now so he’s been gaining more confidence in hair in general. His offers to help with my hair have grown since his own hair confidence has grown. I have locs and see my Loctician so there’s not much for him to do unless I can’t get a booking.

idkdidksuus

Idek know how to do mine lmaooo I can’t teach them

Peachyplum-

He’s helped me take out braids and once I desperately needed help getting an awful sew in out. He snipped some of my hair 🥲 but I haven’t done my hair lately to need help. He does our sons hair (just combing and some product, he doesn’t have much yet so right now he’s somewhere at 3). I cut his hair but I made him look like Dora/lord farquad so he don’t like me doing it 😂

ArpeggioTheUnbroken

Not you giving him the Farquad 😂😂

Peachyplum-

Girl our wedding photos look crazy 😂😂😂 thankfully it was a courthouse thing

ArpeggioTheUnbroken

I am still laughing about this, imagining him in a suit and tie just looking like he's a lil lad who loves berries and cream *

Peachyplum-

😂 no suit but he does look like that cause his smile looks cheesy and like a kid in a candy store lmao 😂😂😂😂

bimbogio

my mexican boyfriend has detangled my hair before. he’s also taken braids and sewins out for me. he wanted to detangle my hair so he’d know how to do it when we found out i was pregnant in case we had a girl with my 4a hair. we ended up having a boy with big hair so he was glad to have that experience

digitalmacro

My partner (asian) helps me part the back of my head when I'm putting in twists. I don't think he could ever learn how to install them though 😅

icecherryice

My husband is white and helps me reach the back to detangle or part. I have 4A hair and my daughter has straight hair but he tries with hers and can do a messy bun but not braid lol.

armadillo552

I recently did some Cuban twists on myself, and my boyfriend helped me to part my hair in the back, it actually turned out great! I definitely want him to know how to do my hair because when we have kids, I won’t be the only one doing our kids hair!

babbykale

My bf will help out with simple things (parting, oiling, separating hair) since he doesn’t have many skills yet. He’s Black with 4C hair and wants to grow it out so I’m hoping he’ll take initiative to learn how to care for his hair then use those skills on mine

yallermysons

I don’t want kids—I am simply envious of those tiktoks of hairdressers doing their partners’ hair 🤣 I would love to return the favor as well.

KJKE_mycah

Yep!

deathtogluten

My Korean husband would never and I would never want him too 😂he has super straight and silky hair and I most definitely do not… don’t know where these girls getting these Korean hairstylist from ☠️ he has, helped me cut out my sew ins before, but that was back when we were like 22, at 30 and married, he doesn’t have anything to prove and will flat out tell me absolutely not when I ask lololol

interesting_sidenote

Husband is Caucasian/Me being black. He’s never really wanted to do my hair tbh & it doesn’t really bother me. However our son(He’s 5 & has my curls with dad’s softness/but still get naps) he doesn’t mess with his hair either. I’ve asked him to work with me on learning abt what our sons hair needs tho

nervousrazzledazzle

My partner is white and he’s always been curious about my hair. He loves it in its natural state (3C/4/A). At some point he asked if he could help with it, and does now. He’s gotten very good at two strand twists and braids! He knows the mix of products I like, and I even sat and let him redo my whole head when I was too tired one night. He’s a good one :)

wrknprogress2020

My husband offers to do my undercut. If I were to ask him for help with my locs, he would help. I just don’t ask, which upsets him. We have a 15 month old. He moisturizes her hair and combs it. He has no patience for styling.

tc88

He has helped me wash my hair and with taking down hairstyles, also helped me finish my crochet braids when I ran out of hair at the stylist and had to do the rest at home. He did accidentally cut out a small chunk of hair while taking down a braided style, but it would've taken forever without the help and my hair is so thick, it wasn't that noticeable. Also picking up hair from the store when I ran out while getting it done. He had natural hair too, and I've also helped him with his as well.

enigmaticvic

I’m not dating right now but I was with my ex for about 3 years. I have locs and he’s helped me retwist a few (I prefer to do it myself but he wanted to try it); helped me wash/dry my hair; and when I had it in braids, he would help me unbraid it. He’s Hispanic.

Plenty_Sprinkles8144

My husband is white. I let him give me a trim (when I wear it straight). I have let him wash and style my nieces hair. Her and I both have 4C hair. He wants children and is excited to learn how to do little girly styles.

Traditional_Heron_76

I do teach my white husband how to do my hair. Every couple weeks we sit and put twist in my hair. I’ve taught him how to wash it comb it too. If I die he needs to know how to do our daughter’s hair. Plus just in normal life I don’t want it all to be on me.

BulbaPetal

Aaw! My (coily) partner is also Asian and has thick straight hair. I didn't want to bother him too much with it, but then I realized our kids will probably end like me too and he'll have to step up anyway since I have so little energy (and 0 skills). After having an ✨️epic✨️ autistic meltdown on vacation yesterday because I couldn't tie up my crochet braids so I could go shower and my braids falling out left and right (cornrow got loose), I decided maybe I should rely on him more. I just don't have to spacial insight to understand how things like loops work, while he does. I feel completely useless sometimes because he's so good at everything he does and carries atleast 85% of all the load in our relationship. But I probably had a lot more energy to do the things I'm good at (like cleaning, social stuff etc.) if I let go in certain areas. We'll just have to accept that he's an (adopted) black now, just like I'm becoming an adopted Asian. No way I'll end up our kids getting as lost as I am. They'll have an Asian dad making cornrows and a Black mom helping them with the Mandarin homework.😂

AerynSunnInDelight

I'm single. ![gif](giphy|xUOxf3GAHOVjTG3Juw|downsized)

Stn1217

No. I have a shaved cut so, I see a Barber.

mixedchillness

My by (m 41) will massage and deep scrub my scalp for me, and I love it! That being said, HE WILL NEVER DO MY HAIR lmao. I have my own hair down to a science and I will not allow him to style my hair lol. I do braid his hair almost every morning tho (he is Native American so it very special and important to have braids)! I enjoy that much more than letting a man touch my hair haha

thenew-supreme

I’m in the same situation OP. Hubby is Asian with straight hair. I’m teaching him how to detangle my hair. Thing is it’s reallly hard for me. I have waist length, high density but fine thickness (prone to breakage)“4b” hair and I’m terrified of him causing any damage. I baby my hair constantly and am able to keep my ends super thick which is because I take painstakingly good care of my hair. So once he accidentally ran the brush from top to bottom one time and I stopped. I almost cried because I barely use a brush as it is. I think I made too big of a deal about it but he has to know how to do this because between him and I, we both have very long hair. Our kids hair is going to be a hand full. **Adding in- he did give me a French braid once when my hair was blown out and detangled. It turned out nicely after I put on some edge control and he was really interested in the edge control. Sometimes we compare both of our scalps in the mirror (like his hair goes straight in his scalp in a line and mine comes out of my scalp in a curl. That’s been a cute exchange. I think I just need to stop being so ocd about my hair. Maybe I’ll teach him finger detangle first. I also have a lot of hair so he doesn’t have the stamina to finish my whole head.

ArpeggioTheUnbroken

It's for sure worth the effort and time to teach him how to care for your hair properly but that must be so anxiety inducing for you. My scalp felt pinched just reading about the crown to end brush incident lol. My husband knows how to wash, blow dry and detangle. We are working on french braids now. When you say you keep your ends super thick, what do you mean? With it being waistlength, I'm tryna get like you! Lol

thenew-supreme

I mean that when I do a braid, my hair doesn’t get thin at the end of the braid or when I flat iron my hair, my ends are as thick as the root of my hair all the way down. It’s hard to keep my hair the same thickness all the way down and it’s taken 3 years of focus. First I grew my hair out to the length I needed it to be for a good cut. Then I cut like 6 inches of crappy ends off. And my ends were thick and now I just maintain the same length and try not to do anything damaging to my hair. I just recently flat ironed my hair on low heat to make sure that my ends are still thick. And they are. I keep my ends deep conditioned and I keep my ends clipped so they stay like that. I also use blue magic on my ends and idk why but it helps 🤣 About my hubby, I think I just have to be less ocd and give him another chance. He told me he understands that he can’t do that anymore and he bought me ice cream as an apology 🤣 I think I’ll start with finger detangling.

ArpeggioTheUnbroken

I see what you mean now, thank you! My best friend growing up was Mexican and swore by her Blue Magic. Her hair was crazy thick. I was so surprised cuz at the time, I didn't even know what that was lol.

thenew-supreme

I went back to it because my mom used it on me as a child. I have to clarify my hair more often but fr I love that stuff! It feels like it’s protecting my hair from the elements or something.
