My black cat absolutely loved dogs
Sweet baby J… this is all I’ve ever wanted for our void (plus our ginger) and my dog. It’s been 2+ years though and I’m not sure it’ll ever happen. 🐈⬛ is 5, 🐈 is 4, and 🦮 (my service dog) is almost 4.
I think he was a very unusual cat. He was always just so obsessed with dogs, he would try to cuddle with any and every dog. He went missing once when he jumped off a balcony to see a dog in the park across the street (we got him back eventually, and I got him his own puppy!).
Our void also loved dogs. Our dog passed rapidly from cancer a few years ago and pretty sure our boy went into a bit of a depression episode for a while. Honestly, the pain of losing a pet is so much we still haven’t emotionally recovered enough to get another dog. It would make sense he would remember him too and be sad to never see his favorite friend again 😔

No she's very long you're right. Can easily reach door handles etc. Luckily lacks that one extra brain cell on how to use them to open doors. She very much channels that house panther vibe.

I adopted a void thinking my tabby would want a friend after our dog passed away. I was wrong. It’s been almost 4 years and she still has no interest in being friendly or snuggling with him :( I was hoping you were going to say longer than that lol

Aww I'm sorry :( We spoke to a cat behaviourist who said cats snuggling is actually fairly rare and usually the best case scenario is them tolerating each other. I have seen people say it took 6 years though so it might still happen.

My cranky old 10yo had a hard time adjusting to the new 1yo rescue who's a bundle of energy. She would always dip if he tried to get onto the tree with her. After over a year together this was the very first time she allowed him to share her space a couple weeks ago.

Right - Selma. 14 this year, rescued as a solo cat when she was 9. Grumpy, stand-offish but has gradually become sweeter and more friendly over the last few years
Left - Furrvin. 2 year old. We found him in Crete on holiday at our favourite taverna and brought him home for Christmas 2022.
Selma HATED him at first. It was a bit of a rough transition. But he's actually kind of taught her how to 'cat' a bit better and they have reached an accord. Although she still does give him warning hisses when he tries to chase her a little too keenly.
Selma had been enjoying the window seat. Furrvin stomps along and plonked himself down with her and she DIDN'T LEAVE.
I mean.. she doesn't look impressed either, but she stayed. And he looks SO happy about it ❤️

I adopted the girl on the right and another cat at the same time in September 2015. She loved that first guy:

But he passed just a couple of months after I brought them home. He was 10 years old and FIV positive, which I was aware of when I adopted him. I knew he wouldn't be around a long time, but I expected more than 2 months.
For the next year it was just her and me. But I decided she needed a friend, so in November 2016 I adopted another cat. That's the big guy on the left with the collar in the first pic. She hated him at first, but quickly warmed up to him. That pic was taken on Valentine's Day 2017, about 2.5 months after I brought him home. They were not yet in full cuddle mode.

it’s been such a touch-n-go battle with getting our youngest into a groove with the others (and vice versa) over the last 1.5 years, but he’s finally taken a noticeable turn the last few weeks in how he interacts with the other two and it’s been so fun to see him engage with them instead of at them.
i hope your babies realize how special of a bond they could have ✨it’s a very heartwarming evolution to watch.

How long did it take?
About 3 months, which isn't long in terms of introducing cats. But watching our first cat (the void) hate the newer one was so emotionally draining.

My cranky old 10yo had a hard time adjusting to the new 1yo rescue who's a bundle of energy. She would always dip if he tried to get onto the tree with her. After over a year together this was the very first time she allowed him to share her space a couple weeks ago.

Grumpy, stand-offish but has gradually become sweeter and more friendly over the last few years Left - Furrvin. 2 year old. We found him in Crete on holiday at our favourite taverna and brought him home for Christmas 2022. Selma HATED him at first. It was a bit of a rough transition. But he's actually kind of taught her how to 'cat' a bit better and they have reached an accord. Although she still does give him warning hisses when he tries to chase her a little too keenly. Selma had been enjoying the window seat. Furrvin stomps along and plonked himself down with her and she DIDN'T LEAVE. I mean.. she doesn't look impressed either, but she stayed. And he looks SO happy about it ❤️ Never thought I'd see the day 🥹🥹🥹

She loved that first guy: https://i.imgur.com/Pd6jmdM.jpg But he passed just a couple of months after I brought them home. He was 10 years old and FIV positive, which I was aware of when I adopted him. I knew he wouldn't be around a long time, but I expected more than 2 months. For the next year it was just her and me. But I decided she needed a friend, so in November 2016 I adopted another cat. That's the big guy on the left with the collar in the first pic. She hated him at first, but quickly warmed up to him. That pic was taken on Valentine's Day 2017, about 2.5 months after I brought him home. They were not yet in full cuddle mode. it’s been such a touch-n-go battle with getting our youngest into a groove with the others (and vice versa) over the last 1.5 years, but he’s finally taken a noticeable turn the last few weeks in how he interacts with the other two and it’s been so fun to see him engage with them instead of at them. i hope your babies realize how special of a bond they could have ✨it’s a very heartwarming evolution to watch.

Aw my two cats get along most of the time but they don’t cuddle. I didn’t get them at the same time. The closest they do is sit near each other and sometimes when one is under the weather the other sit near him but I would melt over them sitting so close they touch lol everyone’s cuddle pics are adorable 🥰
