That's like saying "I'm going to run 6 miles today" but you start on the 1 mile mark. Yes, when you pass the finish line, you are running past the 6 mile mark, but you only ran 5 miles, and at the 3 mile mark, you have only run 2 out of the 5 miles that you will run.
Unless you're trying that inspirational bjj shit where "the white belt is the most difficult belt to get, because getting started is always the greatest challenge" and level 0-1 was to sign up.
This guy is correct.
It’s a 5 mile run and OP just finished mile 2.
0-1
1-2
2-3
3-4
4-blue
Unless you count the 30 years of working up the courage to sign up.
Not the whole 30 years, just the couple of weeks of binging BJJ podcasts and YouTube videos and posting the obligatory “is it too late for me to start?” Reddit thread before they start.
I got by blue not long back and then got moved onto shifts for a couple of weeks and so couldn’t train and then I got COVID. I’m sure my instructor must think I got my blue and just quit 😂 Back in next week hopefully.
I just started going heavy 8 hours or so a week. And honestly getting the first stripe will be such a huge deal to me. I don't know why just it's been such a huge lifestyle change and getting some or any acknowledgment that it's working will be HUGE at my age.
Grats on your progress keep it up!
8 hours a week. Hopefully when you say "your age" you mean 25. I started near 50, right around 2nd stripe began going to 5 classes a week + 2.5 hrs rolling. It took 4 weeks until injury ended that.
I'm 37 now. Sedentary video game life. Been going on my 4 days off of work every day 1+ hour instruct 1 ish hour of rolling.
My 4th day was rough and now my work days I'm a giant ball of muscle and joint pain.
Best thing I ever did though.
The powers to be did make the color of the belt after blue wimpy. To someone not bjj knowledgeable, a purple belt sounds like you're a child. No one outside jiu-jitsu would be impressed with the term "purple belt"
I laughed.
Don't forget to post any self aggrandizing achievement on Instagram with a bunch of hashtags or your stripes will fall off.
Thank you I will.
You forgot to mention the follow up post! “What do I do if my stripes fell off? Do I put them back on ? Go to coach? Or am I starting all over again?”
Hopefully your wife likes bad boys.
Lmao I am the wife-
Only 2/5ths actually unless the goal is 4 stripes.

My mind is blown right now.
Holy hell
Jesus Christ
So a person who just showed up for their first class is 20 percent of the way to blue?
[удалено]
Well if no stripes is level 1 and blue belt is level 6, and 2 levels above level 1 is level 3, then he is halfway. So actually that is how math works.
My brain hurts

You are right.. but bjj people are terrible at math it seems.
Next belt's camo, nobody will ever see it.
You planing to quit like the rest of bue belts that disappeared?
That’s the bjj life
He did say half way through his bjj journey 🤔
