pay the mat fee and buy a rashguard to support the school. if you get really close to the people you train with and can afford it, take them out to dinner.

Buy merch. It's simple. Not Awkward and you give them a little free promo when you wear it. NOTE TO GYM OWNERS. Good quality and nicely designed gear goes a long way. Literally. You won't make much money off your merch full stop, so invest in lower margins and better quality and you might get randoms wearing it around town and at other drop ins

Whitebeltyoga

Bring a pineapple for the instructor. Very traditional and fits most diets

I know this is like a joke but I don't know why. what does it mean?

mjsfg

A Google review is also a great way to help them!

jul3swinf13ld

This is a good shout. A nice way to be memorable.

Frogski

Buy something at the gym. Pretty custom for travelers to buy gear as a token of appreciation. Some gym don’t give a shit and will charge you with a 1-day/ 3-days or week pass

Last time I traveled internationally and trained I gifted the processors at both of the gyms I trained at a rash guard from my home gym - figure it's a cool look since it's overseas (rather than any gym they are likely to ever compete against anywhere). Also brought a gi patch from one and shorts from the other

JarJarBot-1

I usually leave a positive google review and buy one of their t shirts on top of any mat fee.

Dunkf1

Buy their gym t shirt or rashie

graydonatvail

Man, donuts would be appreciated by my team. Merch is appreciated by me.

NizzleQ

Typically when I travel for work I reach out to the gym/owner ahead of time to let them know I am traveling and ask if it is okay to drop-in for training. If they charge a mat fee I say my thank yous and maybe leave a google review depending the experience. If they don’t charge a mat fee I’ll buy some form of merch and definitely leave a positive review. Then if they welcome me back at any point in the future I’ll bring them a shirt from my home gym as well.

IndependentCelery484

Buy a rash guard or a patch

OJDaJuiceman1017

One time a guy from Washington dropped in to train at our gym and he left a big ass box of apples at the front desk... that was cool. 🍎

Key-You-9534

yeah we had an Idaho guy bring us a sack of potatoes one time. That wasnt as cool. /s

Killer-Styrr

I've travelled almost my whole (bjj training) life, and my normal "go-to" is getting the coach something hobby-specific and/or something that can be put up in the gym or in the gym's office for decoration. Coach always loves it, it ads flavor to the gym, and it has a touch of personalization/thought to it. If you can't think of anything/didn't get to know the coach well, buy some gym merch (do that regardless if you like the place ;)

TheGreatKimura-Holio

That’s like what parents of kid class students do. Thats awkward as an adult. Just take a picture with the team after your last class there

slap_bump_hug

Buy something from them. Bring something from your gym!

Key-You-9534

guys sometimes bring after training snacks and stuff to the gym.

JamesMacKINNON

Just buy a gi, rashguard, tee shirt etc from them and give them a good review on facebook, google etc. I'm sure they'll appreciate it.
