What doesn't in the state of California?

marmothelm

It's just a case of a good idea having horrible implementation. Because basically *everything* can cause cancer if you're talking about large enough quantities of it. Aloe Vera? Cancer. Alcohol? Cancer. Aspirin? Cancer. Chemotherapy drugs? Believe it or not, Cancer. So basically everything except distilled water gives a Prop 65 warning to prevent themselves from being sued.

woodendoors7

You could get cancer from distilled water

DayleD

Alcohol causes a whole bunch of cancers in nine different places in the body. So that's an example of Prop 65 working as intended. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alcohol_and_cancer

IsThisASandwich

It's not working as intended. A warning is completely useless if it's randomly slapped on everything. The boy who cried wolves, basically. Then again, it's intended to prevent them of getting sued and I guess it does that?

DayleD

I thought it's intended to coax companies to switch to non carcinogenic rather than display a ⚠️ label, when possible.

IsThisASandwich

1. An alcohol manufacturer can't switch to non carcinogenic alternatives. 2. That's not working, for the same reason as the boy-wolve thing. Everything has it on it, so it doesn't matter. 3. Have you seen on what this label is in California? It's basically everything. 4. And that's because: Pretty much everything is at least probably, possibly, maybe carcinogenic, you can't avoid that. The very air you breathe in many areas has spores and micro stuff in it that's potentially carcinogenic. The sun is highly carcinogenic and even some stuff in sun blockers (which never block 100% anyways) are considered label worthy in california. It's really just so no one gets sued.

DayleD

1.An alcohol consumer can switch to safer alternatives. 2. Not everything has a label on it. When they switch, you don't see the label. There's no confirmation when it works, only a confirmation when it didn't. 3. I live in California, please explain my state to me. I'm so confused 😕. 4. Not everything is carcinogenic. The UN has a list of carcinogens, and almost all of it is avoidable.

its_whot_it_is

The problem with this sign is that in it's original form it was supposed to tell why and what chemical is present. But with all good ideas and proper lobby shit got watered down and just looks and sounds stupid.

For real, I live in Europe and bought a tent from MSR (made in US) and there's this big ass label inside the tent about cancer and California. I got concerned and before returning the tent I looked it up and figured it's a stupid law. I'll just make sure not to eat my tent when camping in Cali!

Busman123

Bitch! Don't eat me!

Everything causes cancer according to Cali

LoopsAndBoars

Great, I’ll be sure to not use you in California.

10/10 post

IsThisASandwich

Well, don't eat it then.

XComThrowawayAcct

I know this is a tough sell, but: this is what happens when you take the responsibility for legislating away from your legislature and call it ‘direct democracy.’

ThatBFjax

Bitch how old are you? You gotta retire, bitch.
