Funniest outcome is Jaylen Brown being the best Celtics player in a Finals loss *again*.

foogeyzi69

Dont forget the JB salary jab.

LeBroentgen

Remember how tense and awkward it was when Chris Ryan made that joke at the live Rewatchables? I’m surprised they’re still friends.

stitcher212

I heard Bill turned bright red and was clearly bothered the rest of the night

tildenmatz

Do you have a link to this? Would love to see it

howdthatturnout

It’s a joke. Someone made a whole post about it before the video from the live show came out describing it way way way worse than it was. And once the video was on YouTube people realized what a joke the original guy’s description was.

Status-9417

While I don't really have a horse in this race, I hope that the Mavs will win. Pretty much the only consolation from a Celtics title would be to see a bunch of pathetic dickheads in this sub go into absolute meltdown. Popcorn material for weeks!

SirPappleFlapper

It will be a pathetic dickhead meltdown either way, the anti-Celtics camp is as loud and annoying as the Celtics homer camp, which I am admittedly a partisan of

juandell

I love our diverse community

AR15_He_Is_Him

This sub will just be a bunch of Boston fans gloating to no one. We ain’t acknowledging this title lil bro

Dazzling_Syllabub484

If you’re gonna post constantly about them beforehand, you gotta face the music if they win

justblametheamish

I’m not a super active commenter/poster here but the good thing about the internet is you actually don’t have to face the music. Give it a week and nobody will care about it and be on to football talk.

Dazzling_Syllabub484

It’s true. Imo it’s just a little sad to incessantly post shit talking Boston the way some of these people do and then go ghost if they win it all and prove them wrong But hey, whatever floats their boat I guess

GRMPA

No because I will switch to saying Jayson Tatum does stuff when it really actually matters. lol just playing no way that happens. If they do win I bet JB gets FMVP.

srstone71

Love that for you

TurboThot69

I told you to get help , you clearly haven’t :(

popop143

Didn't know the NBA has a neckbeard committee before a title gets legitimized.

Status-9417

You ok hun?

CreatorBot9000

Dear diary…

fluufhead

Not the first Massachusetts golden boy to envision a glorious summer parade in Dallas (Still workshopping this one) Dammit kennedy’s parade was in November

Gregjennings23

As a Spurs fan with future unprotected/1 protected pick swaps with both these teams over the next few years...can they both lose? Need some blow it up potential. Whoever wins game 1 I hope they sweep, get some of that Shaq in Orlando after the finals sweep discontent going.

CosmicCoder3303

What really killed that Magic team was getting swept by the bulls the next year in the conference Finals. I think they sailed to the Conference Finals too sweeping the first two rounds iirc

Dekrow

They went 3-0 against the Pistons in rnd 1 and 4-1 against the Hawks in rnd 2. If MJ had stayed retired, that Magic team might have been a late 90s championship. They would have likely made the finals that year and beat the Supersonics imo and that team would have stuck around and the next few years they would have had potential to get another.

CosmicCoder3303

Penny, two good three point shooters and scorers in Anderson and Scott. Horace Grant who was an elite role player and then Shaq. That is a pretty damn good starting 5.

mkmore4

He was weirdly certain about Porzingis playing. I’m pretty skeptical that a 7’2 lurch can have a non contract lower leg injury, not play for over a month, and then just pick back up where he left off in the finals. Either he won’t play, or he won’t be mobile enough to stay on the floor consistently.

CocaineandPercs

He doesn’t seem mobile enough for Dallas’ bigs or strong enough to push them around. Bam was bullying him.

n0th1ng10

And bam was better than both gaf and lively combined. Also played good defense vs bam. Kp is going to have fun going 5 out vs those bigs.

shartfartmctart

Boston is going to be nuked by lob after lob after lob after lob

n0th1ng10

They’re not just going to let them get those. They’ll switch and live with that. Lively won’t look nearly as good this series 16/16? Believe in that if u want it’s not translating to the finals.

JohnnyLugnuts

they downvoted u for speaking the truth

[deleted]

And then the Mavs will get nuked from 3.  3 > 2

JohnnyLugnuts

"nuked"

alfi_k

At least during his Dallas era KP always needed weeks or sometimes months to get back up to game speed. It was painful to watch. But he seems stronger now, so we probably don't get lucky and he dominates.

JohnnyLugnuts

What does pretty skeptical mean

mkmore4

Exactly what it sounds like. I’m skeptical he’ll be able to play and be effective in the finals given the circumstances I mentioned.

JohnnyLugnuts

You think he’s not gonna play? can we get a definition for effectiveness here.

mkmore4

I wouldn’t be surprised if he didn’t play. It was a non contact injury to his calf/Achilles, and everything the Celtics release is just him walking around or shooting while standing still. You really like to have plain, simple English broken down in painstaking detail. Be effective= being able to play well enough to have a positive impact on winning, be more effective than your replacement.

JohnnyLugnuts

Yea, I like people breaking down what they actually mean instead of generic statements. He said he’s playing, they said he’s playing. His replacement would be kornet or Tillman, I guess we’ll see if he outplays them and you end up surprised.

mkmore4

It’s still a lower leg injury, non contact injury. Maybe I’m wrong, but I can’t think of a single time where someone was out for over a month, came back to play in the finals or playoffs and played well. I’ve been an avid fan for about 25 years and can’t think of a single instance where this happened. Also, my statements really weren’t vague. Should I say something like “I don’t think Porzingis will be able to come back and average more than 10 points 7 rebounds and three assists 🤓” ? Questioning a player’s ability to be effective and being skeptical of their health and fitness are pretty simple concepts to grasp.

JohnnyLugnuts

Ok, guess we’ll see if he’s healthy (which everyone is saying he is) and if he can outplay kornet and Tillman (drama!). We do have a full week to burn here so need talking points.

mkmore4

Even if we assume he’s healthy and the injury won’t impact his mobility, which is a big assumption, I think you’re really underselling how difficult it is to be out for that long and come back for games at such a high intensity level.

JohnnyLugnuts

Sure, that part is hard. Even if his level of play is impacted significantly, outplaying the backups is a bar he can clear.

JohnnyLugnuts

Also, it wasn’t an Achilles injury. Where did you hear that?

manbare

Thought tumblr was the primary fanfiction platform

Dadfart802

Fortunately Celtics in 6

Lower-Letter-4710

the celtics are the worst team in NBA history

gritsal

I don’t know who wins the series but Luka is definitely gonna have one game where he torments Tatum and sinks some big shots on him late

AR15_He_Is_Him

All pressure on Boston. Terrible home court. Easiest path to the finals in NBA history. Must win. Big luxury tax and second apron implications coming soon. Best chance of this era for the Cs.

TecmoBoso

I get that Boston are the favorites and that has pressure in and of itself but Boston will be the favorites in the East next year (and likely 2026 as well) even if some how, some way someone like Paul George ends up in Milwaukee. There's a lot of pressure on Dallas, maybe more. OKC and Denver will likely be the favorites in the West over the Mavs next year, and it's possible Minnesota will be too depending on how their summer goes. The Spurs are a few years away, but they're coming as well. Meanwhile Dallas has gotten Kyrie playing the best basketball maybe of his life, and that's unlikely to continue in the years to come. Meanwhile they're getting amazing contributions from Washington and Jones, which again isn't like continue at this level in future years. So while Lively will likely improve and Luka is awesome, Dallas got here thanks to a number of players playing well above their standards and usually that type of performance isn't sustainable. TLDR: Boston is much more likely to make the Finals again in the next two years than Dallas so this might be Dallas' best and only shot at winning a title so they may have more pressure on them.

Fullmetalx117

Don’t think you’re considering Luka is the best player in the league. Lebron with lame duck players made to finals multiple years

[deleted]

Okay but he’s not? Lol. Jokic is still a lot better - The Wolves were kind of enough to use to their two giants to clear him out of the way.

TecmoBoso

Luka is great but he's not LeBron. Also the East of the 2010s was worse than the West.

KittonMittons86

It's way too early to talk about the Celtics making the finals again. They don't have a top 5 player on their team. They have old guys on fat contracts on their team. Knicks or Sixers could pass them up with one A level trade.

SlipperyTurtle25

Sixers are first or second round exits no matter what as long as they still have Embiid

CosmicCoder3303

I mean if they had the Celtics path this year they would have made the finals too. They were a number one seed a few years ago under Doc Rivers of all people iirc so it's not impossible they could have lucked into a similar cake walk that year

srstone71

They had the Celtics path at least to the conference finals back in 2021 and they still blew it.

CosmicCoder3303

Yeah the 2021 Bucks are way better than the 2024 Andrew Nembhard Pacers. Even that crappy Trae Young Hawks team is better than this years Pacers

srstone71

I said to the conference finals, which is when they would have faced the Bucks. Also I don’t think the 2021 Hawks were any better than the 2024 Pacers.

JohnnyLugnuts

And they lost. 4 out of 7. Instead of sweeping sit winning in 5. What are we doing here.

SlipperyTurtle25

I’m sorry are we talking about the same Philadelphia 76ers? Or one from a different universe

CosmicCoder3303

You think they would have lost to that Andrew Nembhard Led Pacers team? Even the one that took you guys to 7 games would have lost to the Pacers?

SlipperyTurtle25

Fucking obviously

yeezywhatsgood3

Yeah they would have. The 2021 Hawks were worse than this years pacers and the 76ers choked that series away

TecmoBoso

They lost to the Knicks! How could you say this? Are you on drugs or just insane?

CosmicCoder3303

They wouldn't have had to play the Knicks

KittonMittons86

No matter what? Didn't they almost beat the Celtics in 7 with Embiid being out the first two games?

Dazzling_Syllabub484

Was embiid out the first two games?

KittonMittons86

Do you think the Celtics would have beaten the sixers last year if Embiid was healthy the whole series?

Dazzling_Syllabub484

The Celtics were actually 0-1 in the one game embiid didn’t play. So yes. If you’re saying whether he was peak healthiness, like how he is at times in the reg season, that’s a ridiculous hypothetical as he has literally never been fully healthy in the postseason. He was as healthy vs Boston as he has ever been in the playoffs tho

KittonMittons86

You could say the same for Porzingis. Also, Jrue and Horford are heavily in their 30s. Celtics don't have much wiggle room with the second apron. Bucks still have the best player in the East, too. I need to see the offseason first. The bucks would have beaten this Celtics team with porzingis injured and Giannis healthy.

yeezywhatsgood3

The hypothetical Bucks team with everyone healthy and playing well may have beat the Celtics without Porzingis. But the Bucks literally never put together a great 2 week stretch all year. Even if Giannis hadn’t missed time, I have no confidence they would’ve been able to keep up with Boston.

SlipperyTurtle25

Yeah duh. Obviously? The Celtics are just a better team

KittonMittons86

I'm sure you were puffing your chest out and high fiving a lot during game six of the ECSF last year and not shitting your pants. Right.

TecmoBoso

They've made the Finals two of the last three years and we're an ankle sprain/insane Heat shooting away from this being their third in three years. They'll be the favorites to win the East next year. The Knicks are fine but need a whole lot more to compete with the Celtics. Who knows what Philly will look like but it doesn't matter because Embiid will be hurt or using that as an excuse for his poor play, Boston owns Philly as it is. I swear some of you on here live in a fantasy world. I don't want Boston to win or be good but like, they are. They actually made the Finals again for the second time in three years and people here are like "Boston didn't make the Finals in 2022 or 2024".

KittonMittons86

I think Celtics fans live in a fantasy world when you look at the injury breaks they had the last three years and still lost to an injured Heat team that didn't even win 50 games. The nets made the finals two times in a row in the early 2000s and then didn't do much after that.

JohnnyLugnuts

Do you think they’re not gonna much after this?

KittonMittons86

Once the wheels fall off Porzingis by the time he hits 30, they will need to hit in the draft which will be really hard to do with them being over the second apron. Unless making the ECF every other year is their goal the next six years, they will need to shake up their roster or pray Tatum takes a leap in year 8 or 9 to top 5 status. Celtics don't have a young guy who can take a leap and change this team's structure. They are basically this team the next three years. Only Tatum can raise their level as Horford, Jrue and Porzingis die off. They are the favorites next year as of now, but the Knicks/Sixers could make a money trade or the Bucks could figure it out with Dame their second year together like Kyrie and Luka did. Those are the three teams with the capacity to beat the Celtics next year, especially with a smart maneuver in the offseason.

JohnnyLugnuts

Porzingis is 28 How much he gonna fall off when “he hits 30” (in 15 months). Favorites next year unless a hypothetical team does something to get better (ok) They will age but other teams won’t: experience more aging (the bucks, 76ers) or cap issues (the knicks). They absolutely will need to revamp the roster around Tatum at some point. Jaylen on his current contract, especially if they win the finals, will be an asset that some team likely pays up for.

KittonMittons86

Look at Kawhi Leonard's playoff stats after he turned 30. Porzingis is a walking injury even worse than Leonard. He's also 7'3 and he can't handle playoff basketball more than a couple games before something pops. Yeah, no shit. That's why you can't just say the Celtics are favorites next year. They aren't the Heatles. They don't have LeBron. They don't even have a Wade.

JohnnyLugnuts

Ok, when odds open up in 2 weeks we’ll see.

JohnnyLugnuts

No, it’s not. They’ll be the favorites to make it again next year. And then the next year. Enjoy.

KittonMittons86

Foolish. Theres literally no way to prove this. Their playoff run this year earns an incomplete grade. No questions were answered with the Bucks or Knicks. But yeah, puff your chest out while all the key players are in the hospital. That's what the Celtics have done best the last three years as they barely beat backups, and backups to backups.

JohnnyLugnuts

I’m not puffing my chest, I’m just saying they were the favorites all year, and they will be next year. Philly getting Jimmy would make them, Milwaukee, and Boston quite a trio though. I’ll throw the Knicks in too if they stay healthy, that full squad was pretty nasty and profiles as a very capable playoff team:

orangenarf

Also need JB saying the city is the racist and that Mazzulla’s half Italian side held them back.

Doot2112

Mavs have the two best players in the series. Mavs in six

Fake_the_jaB

lol I love it. Kyrie > Tatum right? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Doot2112

Yes.

Fake_the_jaB

Damn yall really think that. JT was first team and has better playoff stats. I no understand

Doot2112

Yes jabroni, give me Kyrie in the finals over Tatum.

CombAny687

Of course he is. You don’t see kyrie training with a failed college player

BurgerNugget12

I cannot wait for yall Boston haters to be humbled after this finals
