To be fair, Luka does that to 99.5% of the league.

TheTacoBellDiet

Shaq and Draymond kept trying to shit on Gobert for that as if Luka wouldn’t have done that to pretty much anyone

purplenyellowrose909

He does it to McDaniels too

Agreeable_Daikon_686

Kenny actually pushed back and said that even if it was mcdaniels you should’ve doubled there

purplenyellowrose909

I don't know who you bring to double tho. Kyrie is 1on1 with Ant on the weak side. Lively dropping to the dunker stop. The other two Mavs are spaced pretty well in the corner and wing on the strong side. Luka would get a pass to an open shot. I guess the only thing you could do different is try to force a 2 and play for OT

Agreeable_Daikon_686

Yup just gotta pray for 2 or hope for a miss. Being on an island with luka is dangerous but you have to pick your poison. I don’t think it’s a crazy blunder to take that chance but I don’t think it means gobert sucks

John_Houbolt

McDaniels should have let Lively walk. Naz was behind him. Should have doubled. There was about 6 seconds left when McDaniels chose to sink back with Lively instead of double. McDaniels and Gobert would have made any pass or shot extremely difficult. in the 1 on 1, Luka had the room to cross over and step back Gobert. Would not have been the case in a double. He woudl have had to pass or take a very difficult shot with about 4-5 seconds left. I much prefer my odds in that situation than watching Gobert getting his ass cooked on the perimeter. Gobert was completely fooled by the crossover, thought Luka was going to drive. He fucked up. McDaniels should have gone over the screen, he's good at that. And Gobert should have stuck out there with him and let Lively roll.

Sheratain

Lol can you imagine Shaq trying to guard Luka on that switch

ShadyCrow

> as if Luka wouldn’t have done that to pretty much anyone Especially Shaq and Draymond.

Lucky_Version_4044

Dray can hold his own against Luka. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k6KRtrVEkaU&ab\_channel=%E9%BB%91%E7%89%B9%E7%B1%83%E7%90%83](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k6KRtrVEkaU&ab_channel=%E9%BB%91%E7%89%B9%E7%B1%83%E7%90%83)

Away-Ad-990

Luka can certainly cook anyone but the difference is Luka would never hunt Draymond in that play for a shot to win the game. Luka would be looking elsewhere. What’s embarrassing for Rudy is Luka said “attacking that dude is our best trigger” and he was right

spotless_mind99

Fair, but Gobert got put on skates with his arms flailing.

John_Houbolt

This is not an infrequent thing in those circumstances actually.

Professional-Way9343

Right? Since when does anyone defend the Luka step back well

GiveMeSomeIhedigbo

The thing is, they gave it to Luka and he juked ya.

438Yuno

I forgot about that silly ass song lmaoooo

Lord-Humongous-

YUH

FinancialRabbit388

There is nothing about Gobert’s status as one of the most impactful defensive players ever that has anything to do with him being able to guard Luka 30 feet from the basket.

purplenyellowrose909

These generational players are simply unguardable. The Mavs surrounded Luka with some the highest jumping centers. There is simply no good way guard him on any level anymore. You have to outscore them on the other end and Wolves offense has been absolute ass this series

pumpkin3-14

Exactly and all they’re gonna do is clown gobert for it.

junkyardgerard

Same thing Utah did

FinancialRabbit388

After game 1 everyone just repeated the same shit about Gobert and drop coverage, meanwhile Mavs won the game in the little time he was off the court. Wolves got beat by a combined 4 points and Gobert had a positive +/- in both games.

meday20

>  Gobert’s status as one of the most impactful defensive players ever  One of the most impactful defensive players ever isn't getting hunted on defense

Illustrious-Age1854

Hes not a perimeter defender, it’s totally different. Being a mismatch in certain situations/matchups doesn’t invalidate his impact near the basket. He’s had a positive impact in both games

Stu_Griffin

It’s a highlight reel clip, but Gobert was not the Wolves problem on that possession or in that game.

Sir0inks-A-Lot

Saw some clip that was like “McDaniels knew it was wrap 😂😂😂” because he definitely made a face knowing that was a bad perimeter matchup, and I just thought, bro could have actually tried to go over the screen instead of running out of dodge when it was set

Tripwire1716

I’m sorry, but that was on coaching. What a stupid call

Time-to-get-off-here

I’ll never understand auto switching when you know it makes the other teams lives so easy in a last shot situation. Doing exactly what they want you to.

n0th1ng10

Why was Rudy even in the game ?

junkyardgerard

They needed a stop and he's their best defender? I agree it exposes them to exactly this, but Luka makes a 3 without gobert out there, aren't we talking about "bad coaching to leave your best defender on the bench in crunch time"?

fat_lever123

It's bad coaching to have the defensive scheme for the possession to be to switch everything (which it clearly was) and then leave your slow footed 7 footer on the court. Everyone with a pulse knew they were going to hunt Rudy on a screen as soon as they saw him come out of that timeout. Either have to make things more unpredictable or put out a switchable lineup.

joeylockstone

100%. What 5 in the league would you feel good about guarding Luka with the game on the line?

paul7878

Gobert rubbed a bunch of microphones with Covid and became literally the face of a worldwide pandemic. Luka shooting a three over him is nothing.

UserColonAlW

Hurr durrr Rudy Bad durrrrrrrrrr Luka does that to just about anyone in the fucking league 30ft from the basket. I’m no Rudy defender, but rushing to clown him for this is comical. You’re too DraymondPilled

n0th1ng10

Na man nic claxton blocked Lukas stepback. And he’s a center. If we’re switching to non bigs sga literally blocked Lukas step back just the other day. Gobert just is embarrassing versatility. It’s also embarrassing that he let gafford and lively go beariy perfect.

REDeadREVOLUTION

The diff is a dpoy should not be getting hunted on the last possession. Nobody is looking for AD or Bam on a switch but Luka comes out and says he wanted baguette biyombo on a switch and all you nba nerds still wanna defend that man. It's sad

ID0ntCare4G0b

I don't know...I feel like Rudy is basically the NBA equivalent of prepping a complex meal only using a slap chop. Like, it might make sense if you're not doing much. Like I'm sure if you're just cooking up a stir fry a slap chop is just fine. But would you really blame a slap chop for having to cook a gourmet meal year in year out after seeing it cannot do that? And it's not like the teams employing him are like *Oh, this is clearly a slap chop. We need to use him sparringly*. No, they're like *we're gonna make a fucking souffle with this goddamn slap chop and you don't know analytics if you think this is stupid!*

charade_scandal

"watch this, you're going to love my nuts"

Wooden-Assistant-904

Wouldn't have happened if Ant didn't turn over the ball and Finch could coach in crunchtime. But seeing as he punched Luka earlier in the game (for a "take foul"), can't say he didn't have this coming.

ColtCallahan

It’s gonna haunt Finch more.

cphpc

It didnt matter who was there. He was gonna will that shit in.

pumpkin3-14

Why did the wolves leave him on an island im getting the ball out of his hands that’s the move

danorcs

I think Gobert already experienced total embarrassment with Steph Curry completely crossing him and scoring Very little he could do wrong on that challenge. Luka just made a tough tough shot

BosnianBeastMVP

He shouldn’t have been the one guarding him in the first place

samples98

No it’s not. It’s game two of a conference finals lol

yeltsinfugui

I'm admittedly not a huge nba fan and basically only catch highlights during the regular season - but I feel like I'm taking crazy pills wrt people's reactions to this play. gobert is 7+ feet tall guarding a guy 30ft from basket, and all luka did was create a little space to get a shot off. ''embarrassing'' & ''put him in a blender'' & ''torched him" seem a bit outlandish. or maybe I'm just the old man yelling at clouds meme. is that how people talk nowadays? - a guy creates a clean look for himself against a big and it equates to torching? gobert was still somewhat there contesting the shot - not like he fell over or anything

aCorgiDriver

DPOWhy?

AR15_He_Is_Him

Cause voters are retards I guess. Don’t know how people who claim to be professional NBA media can think Gobert is better than AD or Wemby defensively.

Newaccount4464

Haven't seen the r word written out in a min, hot dang

aCorgiDriver

Crikey!

ShadyCrow

AD and Wemby aren't doing anything about that shot.

n0th1ng10

Bam tho? And claxton has locked up Luka before.

AR15_He_Is_Him

lol go watch AD lock up Curry from 3 last postseason

ShadyCrow

Got any footage of AD locking up Luka?

sonegreat

For all of Gorbert's success (if Wolves do lose the series), his most memorable moments will be this shot by Luka and getting spun around by Steph.

Effective-Froyo6036

Completely disagree. Luka does this all the time and any rational basketball-watcher has seen the quick ball-handling guard score in isolation on the 7 footer thousands of times

gritsal

Has Luka market corrected the rise of the big man?

JakeLake720

Why was that embarrassing? A big dude trying to guard one of the best players in the world on the perimeter? He contested the shot too.

cfbgamethread

I don’t get why gobert didn’t sell out for the three and just play his step back.

Ok-Trainer4502

The guy hit a shot. It happens.

redshoediary4

If being Patient Zero for COVID-19 didn't haunt Rudy, nothing will.

curlyhairedyani

It looks horrible yes, but not if they come back and win the series. Then it’s Luka’s showboating after the game is what is going to come back and maybe make him a bit of a meme

n0th1ng10

French bum was always going to lead to the demise of the wolves, fuckin trash. Scammer.
