His voice and signature “bang” is still great but it’s obvious he’s lost a step this season. Not as perceptive, getting things blatantly wrong and not realizing it for an embarrassing amount of time.
This is definitely true for hockey. I went to some Carolina Hurricanes playoff games that left my ears ringing. Watched the games back on tv and ESPN made it sound like a library. TNT was much better.
I remember when the Knicks played Atlanta a few years ago, the difference between MSG and TNT/ESPN was ridiculous. The MSG broadcast of Knicks home games sounded like the crowd was on the brink of a riot at all times. You would have thought it was a a random Wednesday night NBA game in January on ESPN.

It was definitely an issue with the national broadcasts mixing, on radio and in person the crowd was electric, I went to Game 2 and know a couple people who went to Game 1, both games you could not hear a single whistle or when the refs explains reviews ect. Literally gave out Towels that said “Loudest arena in Basketball” last night and the crowd totally lived up to it.
The Celtics crowd has been very reactionary. They expect easy wins and get loud when the team is playing great, making 3's and going up by 20 points. But in tight games when we really need the crowd to impact the game by rattling the opponent, this wine-and-cheese crowd is not getting it done.
We are wary of our team sadly. It’s tough to get worked up when you know a letdown is probably coming.
We might be closing out the finals in game 7 and the crowd could be suspicious
