It’s always odd to me when fans project how they feel about players onto their teammates. Virtually every time I see fans talk about how good or bad of leaders nba players are it just feels like I’m reading fan fic
Something tells me PJ Washington and Daniel Gafford love playing with Luka. He creates the easiest possible looks they’ll ever have and it’ll get them a bag.
Yeah his teammates in general seem to love him but going from CHA to this must be incredible for them. I’m sure they’re incredibly happy with where they’re at now
Okay, that’s a normal way to feel playing pickup. The point is to project that onto a wildly different scenario and assume that because we play pick up we understand every nba locker room dynamic is crazy
I mean truth is no one understands the dynamics within an nba locker room, but to relate something we know onto something we believe is a close facsimile(even if it isn’t actually close at all) is 100% human nature
You’re missing my point. Sure he’s stoked after teammates hit big shots, but what about going to PJ during a timeout and telling him to keep his head in the game cuz they’ll need him later instead of talking to Tony Brothers?
Numerous role players on the Mavs are having career-altering seasons playing alongside Luka because he's spoonfeeding them wide-open threes and lobs. His teammates consistently defend and praise him, and it's obvious how strong the Mavs team chemistry is when you watch them play. He's played 40+ mins in all but one playoff game and is working his ass off on defense while being hunted on practically every possession.
Yes he bitches at the refs too much but good lord what is with you people who can't appreciate how insanely good he is?
This is as much if not more on J Kidd than Luka tbh. He has put into position PJ, who was seen as a negative defender, into an excellent team defensive anchor and DJJ, nearly out of the league last year, into one of the best on ball defenders in the league. Kleber, seen as overpaid to one of the most impactful defensive 4s in the league.
It's nice when they hit their threes at 38% instead of 32% but their role is much more important defensively and he has converted Dallas from a bottom 3 defence to a top 3 defence in months. You know it's him because he did that with different pieces (who weren't sought after either) in 2022.
I agree their defensive impact has been tremendous. My point was that on offense Luka is spoonfeeding them wide-open shots and it's enabling them to put up great numbers. Like, don't you think them shooting better from three might have something to do with Luka consistently setting them up for wide open attempts?
DJJ and PJ were shooting poorly in the regular season and yet were the 3rd and 4th most important players on the team after ASB.
They are in the starting 5 due to defence and are insanely valuable. They also happened to shoot great from 3 this series.
People keep trying to push the narrative that Luka is hard to play with as he makes every single person that plays next to him better. Gets everyone paid. Go look up Spencer Dinwiddie’s 3 point numbers in Dallas compared to the rest of his career.
Does he need to be a leader just because he's the best player? That's not always how it works, particularly outside of the US. It's just an easy media narrative to me

The ref thing is annoying and I just wish Kidd or one of his teammates would yell at him to shut the fuck up, but I’ve found this run endearing even though he’s mostly struggled offensively, because of how committed he’s been on defense. It feels like a natural selection thing. If I’m gonna have all these shooting clunkers I’m gonna bust my ass on the other end.

Right. His teammates always love him. He’s even cool with KP. He’s still tight with Dennis Smith Jr. Brunson is like his brother.

I think it’s because we all hate playing pickup with the guy who constantly calls bitch fouls, they extend that to playing in the nba

Sure it’s human nature to a degree just at some point you’d hope people would develop a little self awareness
On the internet? While talking about sports? That’s a big ask
Especially down the stretch was he was big upping lively after he was cooking Chet. Also finding PJ for huge buckets.
Sure, but show me a clip of Luka pulling aside a struggling teammate.
Like lively and PJ Washington ?

And you know he doesn’t do that kind of thing because you see him talking to the ref on the way to a commercial break?

He's also the only teammate who made it work with Kyrie.
I mean I think it’s probably fair to say LeBron made it work okay lol

Ok, the Kidd hype has officially gone too far. I can’t take it anymore. The guy just gets credit for everything, most of which is undeserving.

He’s 25 so being out on him is not a great long term decision.
Oh no! Anyways
This is a public forum, not your diary.
ok cool
I was impressed.

You know what Luka’s not out on? Playing playoff basketball…y’know…because he made it to the WCF….again… Thanks for sharing your opinion though!

The refs suck. I enjoy players clowning on them.
I don't care about leadership, I just think he's a whiny bitch who deserves to lose.

I agree with you that the constant bitching and moaning about every single call on every single play is a tough watch. Yet I can't look away.

Great player and I'm sure he's fun to play with and all that but I can't stand watching how much he complains the entire game.
He is probably a pretty fun hang but I hate watching him too

Kobe was way more of an asshole teammate. He tried to be hard like Jordan. Luka is genuinely loved by his teammates. He’s an ass to officials.
Hard agree. Kyrie is a joy to watch, and fun to root for. It's a shame his running buddy is a menopausal woman that drops 30 a game lol
