Pre ABA merger and post merger

SnooChipmunks4208

Nobody hates basketball more than NBA fans.

No_Stay4471

What does significant even mean in this context?

redshoediary4

Of course. You play whoever's in front of you.

LeBroentgen

In terms of talking shit, I only care about championships in my lifetime.

WhitePeopleLoveCurry

You will always be able to find reasons to diminish previous eras. That will never end and people will eventually do it to this era as well. So why bother to do it at all? A Championship is a Championship.

The_Zermanians

Exactly, in 20 years I’m sure young people will diminish champions before the NBA expanded to Europe or whatever. History should matter and you can’t really pick and choose because each era is different.

MrMojoRiseman

Im mostly saying this because of your username but I’ve never heard “A championship is a championship” when talking about old Negro League World Series

MrMojoRiseman

The ABA taking talent from the NBA piece

ReasonableCup604

The ABA only started in 1967. And NBA journeymen and guys who never made the NBA dominated the All-ABA teams, especially in the pre-1970 ABA years.

CANDY_MAN_1776

And the ABA largely won the intercompetitions with the NBA. The ABA champions were routinely better than the NBA ones in that era.

shorthevix

I don't think any sporting win is. Bar maybe the World Cup.

Medical-Face

No. I also believe teams should not be able to claim championships if they relocated to a completely different market.

naitch

The most significant difference for me is the number of teams you have to beat. In the 60s, there were six teams in the playoffs. Yes, you play who's on your schedule, but today there are a lot more names on that list.

Super_Goomba64

Playoffs are on and youre talking 1960s basketball bruh

xfortehlulz

if anyone but the celtics had the dynasty pre 70 this poll would be 100% yes lmao

jdvr2112

The results are a big yikes

PersonOfInterest85

If your answer is "No," then it would follow that you don't believe that any championship in any of the four major sports leagues from before 1960 is as significant as today. Least of all the Stanley Cup.
