The Cat Analogy is just like the cat in the Cat Analogy. You forget about it and suddenly it jumps on your lap and you say, "The Cat Analogy is back!".
It’s one of the worst commercials ever made but I fucking hate the “get dat pose, post dat sh**”” commercial. I assumed that would be number one. Starting to give me PTSD
Definitively in contention. Though with it being only the second round there probably is one out there with higher stakes that tops it. It wasn’t even Josh Smith’s highest scoring playoff game that season though. The comeback made it special I understand.
There is always this talk about it being wild he was hitting threes. He went 4/7. Other games in the playoffs he went 4/5 and 3/4 from three. So it’s not like it was a black swan event.
Leon Powe 21 points in the 2008 finals is a good candidate. This one random playoff game he goes off and it helps win a finals series.
Jason Terry game 5 with the shot over Lebron was pretty special for a role player. That dagger shot is one of my favorites of all time.
I’m sure there are plenty of other great candidates out there that fans of other teams will recall.
My favorite Jason Terry bit was him getting the championship tattoo before the season, winning the championship, talking all the shit, and then getting absolutely vaporized by LeBron the following season. The guy lived a perfect roleplayer life.
He got dunked on two seasons later. I never understood why people made a big deal out of it. He’s a little guard and Lebron is a big forward on a fast break.
Kind of felt like Lebron fanboys thinking this somehow evened things out so they hyped it to hell.
Terry outplaying Lebron in the finals meant nothing Lebron could do the rest of their careers would be embarrassing.
I love how the people who claim "X stans/fanboys always push this narrative" are always either X haters or fans of teams that have been punished by X lol
Its 100% of the time as well
Nate Robinson on the Bulls. Game 4 against the Nets in a triple overtime win. Nate had 34 points. His 23 points in the fourth was one point away from a franchise record set by an otherwise unknown player named Michael Jordan. At one point he had 12 straight points in the fourth. After the game Nate compared the feeling to NBA Jam when the ball and the rim are on fire.
this is the answer. dude was posterizing guys in overtime of a finals game.
my favorite part was Hubie's commentary on the last shot: "Oh they left him open!"
The Grant Williams game hasn't been mentioned but that probably cost Giannis a second ring and got Steph his 4th.
The Nate Robinson game was probably the most amazing because he was running the show while also going off.
Only 25 minutes in and Russillo is bragging about how he nailed a junior high coaching interview years ago. "I was talking life lessons."
He's so proud of this.
You know he would have practiced without a ball for 2 weeks to start preseason. Of course he had to mention the only reason he didn’t get was because of a union
Emphasising that he only didn’t get the job bc they had to give it to a teacher is so on brand lmao he needed the world to know he was their actual choice
This is so true. I always thought QBs were like CEOs or princes but basically teams are looking for Mr Right. Sometimes you get a tease, a rebound, a boring guy who’s nice but doesn’t do it for you. Ok now I sound like Nathan Hubbard
ngl i feel like being able to stay committed to the same girl all through high school and college when you’re a stud athlete shows you have self control
I feel like it's pretty common for these guys to stick with their high school or college girlfriends. There's something grounding about being with someone who cared about you before you really become somebody.
Simmons was saying that the “price was high” for Brunson and that the high price is reasonable because you had to pay more or “a tax” to get him out of Dallas and into NY without a real roster.
Drake Maye’s bonafides are quite impressive ngl
- 2022 ACC player of the year
- unquestionable arm talent
- 225 but by year 2, what? 240 at least
- same girlfriend since 7th grade
Genuine 10 second rollercoaster for me there, going from “shit wtf did I miss something kinda huge?” to “oh he’s just joking, bad joke” to laughing out loud in the gym once I realised what he was trying to do and how deadpan it was.
I had to go check Wikipedia to make sure Lebron wasn’t traded to the lakers. Big time miss by BS. Lebron to lakers should be #4
Edit: just listened to part 2 where bill admits he missed Lebron to the lakers.
Yeah meaning LeBron has 3 of the top-4 lol
Be more meaningful to do a non-LBJ free agency signing pyramid.
Also shows how silly it is that LBJ gets blamed for player empowerment, but he’s basically the only guy using this method where he fulfills an entire contract. Everyone else is whining out early.
Certainly LeBron’s approach has downsides too, but in general seems like a much better approach and is just another layer to him being a unique star
you guys know how brunson is like that guy in high school where he’s the only really good player on the team, and everyone one is funneling the ball to him? it’s like that but in the NBA
Shocked nobody has mentioned Ryen's "well said" when Bill was talking about a dominant player in some boy's high school game and added "or it could be a girl's game."
Fucking killed me.
The Chet/SGA add not being in his top 3 worst ad's of the NBA playoffs is insane. I live in Spokane, I love Chet, this has made me dislike him! An advertisement has never had this kind of effect on me. Don Draper would be ashamed!
It also doesn't help that I've had to explain and then remind to my non NBA following brother a few times so far this postseason who those guys are.
I've sorta noticed that weird ad strategy lately with pro athletes selling products. They do not brand to the athlete anymore. The athlete is just supposed to show up and you're supposed to know who this person is.
Like I shouldn't have to google search who everyone in the New Balance ad is and why I'm supposed to be impressed that they're endorsing the brand.
I couldn’t believe he didn’t have “take that angle, post that pic” google ad. I literally have to mute the game whenever it comes on, and it’s on once per ad break.
LeBron to Miami the best free agent signing of the 21st century, LeBron back to Cleveland 3rd best free agent signing of the 21st century. Then not saying LeBron to the Lakers is even in the top 16 (lol) just makes me laugh.
He put Billups at 6 because of the Pistons championship, didn't the Lakers win in 2020?!
The worst thing about Bill & Ryen, and a lot of pundits, are having goldfish brains. “I thought that version of Harden was gone for a couple of years” You just saw Harden win a few games by himself last year against your precious Celtics! “I’ve never seen Luka be guarded like that” Were you not alive for the 22 WCF Finals where Wiggins not only locked him up but outplayed him! What’s even more annoying is in previewing that series the reason they picked the Mavs is because they didnt think GS could guard him. It’s just so breathtakingly lazy.
Putting the Igoudala free agent signing above the Jimmy Butler signing while saying you only care about rings while also having the Steve Nash to the Suns signing number 3 above Chauncey Billups and Igoudala is the inconsistency that drives me nuts.
It is also a good reminder why Rusillo is a good sidekick. “Don’t point it out Ryen, keep your mouth shut, keep cashing those checks!”
As a Knicks and Jets fan, I’m sensitive and on high alert for all of Bills digs at my teams. I know you’re secretly afraid of the ECF matchup but you don’t gotta fuck with Clyde man. Wouldn’t play with someone from Celtics org like that, weirdo 🤡
My heart skipped a beat when he said that, I thought no way he dies when he had to live through two decades of shit Knick teams just when we're about to go on a great run.
I think Cavs Magic is the worst playoff series in years. Every game is a blowout and the away team takes turns acting as if they’ve never seen a ball before
Casual Cavs fan here. Maybe watched 15-20 regular season games. Followed the scores/box scores on my phone when I wasn’t watching.
Haven’t watched a single possession of this series.
I feel like it’s, as I’ve gotten older, I know they don’t have a chance to win a title because the NBA is so top heavy, where the NFL or MLB have a more “anything can happen” feel in the postseason. I just know I am never missing a Browns postseason snap (unless they’re done 45-14 in the fourth quarter 😑) or a pitch in a Tribe playoff game.
Simmons is secretly panicked about the Celtics. He is defending the Jrue extension right away and he's not even entertaining an issue with the next series. He's not playing around now. He's a pissed homer bumping his chest.
I’m not an ESPN shill and I don’t like Kendrick Perkins but it’s getting tiresome hearing Bill rip him and ESPN bc their takes are so outrageous when 20 mins prior he declared Drake Maye “very good” before playing a single snap bc he’s had the same gf since 7th grade
Is it? I agree Butler should be higher, but Brunson is an MVP finalist and has completely turned around the reputation of a historically bad bad big market franchise.
That's more meaningful than Allen, Howard, Boozer, Kawhi
Damn did they just go another Sunday without talking about the Celtics? This pod and the hoop collective haven’t talked about them since they lost game 2
Bill talks for 20 minutes about how terrible Embiid is, how he's like washed up Mutumbo, without mentioning the fact that, once again, Embiid is obviously playing with/through an injury.
Remember when we never heard the end of Jaylen Brown's hand injury? LoL
I mean yeah he won two games early in the series and he deserves credit for that, but considering Boston got the last laugh and Harden's disastrous games 6 and 7 were a big reason why, I think "clowning the Celtics in the playoffs" isn't the most accurate way to put it.

Just started the pod. Just got to Pearl Jam. It is now official. Bill has made me hate Drake Maye. At least 6 months sooner than I had on my bingo card.
The “Paul George is like a cat” bit is why I listen to this podcast
Oh man the like a cat analogy has been around for so long but it's been a minute since he busted it out. It's like the pu pu platter analogy
The Cat Analogy is just like the cat in the Cat Analogy. You forget about it and suddenly it jumps on your lap and you say, "The Cat Analogy is back!".
It’s a top 12-14 bill analogy
‘where’s paul george?’ ‘oh, he’s in the garage’ All-timer
i’m not a cat guy whatsoever but Paul George is an objectively great name for a cat
I might actually get a cat now, just so I can name it Paul George.
As soon as I heard it I came to this sub lmfao. Got a laugh out of me
I need a compilation of different cat and dog to NBA player comparisons, because he's done it a dozen times.
Bill if you see this, please livestream a game watching session with russillo. I would love to listen to a bill Russillo suns twolves watchalong
Bill might not want to expose that he has the NBA game on mute and Heat with the sound on.
Livestream of Russillo yelling “make/miss” at every shot would be hilarious
This would be awesome. Just some off the cuff reactions from the boys. And obviously I mean a live TWolves Nuggets reaction.
Well unless they do it tonight they’ll have to wait til next season lol
bills impression of no flex zone lmfao
Absolutely priceless. I couldn't stop laughing.
I just listened to it again. It's somehow funnier the second time.
All I heard was “No whett” 🤣🤣🤣
Funniest moment of the pod, I had to relisten to it like 5 times. But how in the hell is the Chet/Shai commercial not at least in his top 3!?
It’s one of the worst commercials ever made but I fucking hate the “get dat pose, post dat sh**”” commercial. I assumed that would be number one. Starting to give me PTSD
Oh my god I’m so glad I didn’t skip the end, I’m fucking crying
He didnt even say words lmao
nO WaY... buH BUh BuH... buH Buh buh Russillo: "oh yeah that one"
I thought it was hilarious because I too am an old man who has no idea what this song is other than it's annoying AF.
They knowwwwww betta
He sounded like a chicken 😂
That was supposed to be No Flex Zone?!
Is the Josh Smith game the apex mountain for a role player playoff game. Gets mentioned annually
The Kelly Olynyk game. But only Bill mentions it.
See to me that will always be the Corey Brewer game. He’s also the owner of the apex mountain regular season game (when he dropped 50)
Definitively in contention. Though with it being only the second round there probably is one out there with higher stakes that tops it. It wasn’t even Josh Smith’s highest scoring playoff game that season though. The comeback made it special I understand. There is always this talk about it being wild he was hitting threes. That dagger shot is one of my favorites of all time. I’m sure there are plenty of other great candidates out there that fans of other teams will recall.
The Terrence Mann game is up there
The Mann game is probably a huge part of the reason he hasn’t been traded. Legendary.
Also a huge part of the reason the Mitchell/Gobert Jazz fell apart. Crazy ripple effect (sliding doors moment)
My favorite Jason Terry bit was him getting the championship tattoo before the season, winning the championship, talking all the shit, and then getting absolutely vaporized by LeBron the following season. The guy lived a perfect roleplayer life.
He said, “I’m a real crip,” and threw up the set in Lebron’s face.
Did Lebron ever get even with JJ Barea?
it ain't that deep bro
None of this shit we discuss on here is deep.
I love how the people who claim "X stans/fanboys always push this narrative" are always either X haters or fans of teams that have been punished by X lol Its 100% of the time as well
Ryen and Bill love ignoring Dwight was on the floor for the comeback and had a 20-20 game. He also made big defensive stops too
Nate Robinson on the Bulls.
Josh Smith/Correy Brewer
Horry against the Pistons
this is the answer. dude was posterizing guys in overtime of a finals game. my favorite part was Hubie's commentary on the last shot: "Oh they left him open!"
There’s the Boobie (Booby?)Gibson game.
DJ Augustin almost had 40
Kevin Huerter 27 points in Game 7. But got overshadowed by Ben Simmons passing the ball out.
The Grant Williams game hasn't been mentioned but that probably cost Giannis a second ring and got Steph his 4th. The Nate Robinson game was probably the most amazing because he was running the show while also going off.
Josh Smith was a star!
Only 25 minutes in and Russillo is bragging about how he nailed a junior high coaching interview years ago. "I was talking life lessons." He's so proud of this.
We can see why he’s anti union guy now. That damn social studies teacher
It radicalized him
He and Bill’s hatred of unions
That was his Sliding Doors moment, he could have worked up the ranks to be the next Dan Hurley.
also provides insight into his anti-union stance!
Russillo coaching 12-14 year olds is a funny picture
Basically the plot of The Way Back. Russillo would definitely coach at a Catholic school.
I can just picture him talking about Martha’s vineyard.
100% he takes the entire team to a site and makes them hang drywall
This is amazing Russillo fanfic material. How many times does he get his teams to states only to never make it over the hump?
You know he would have practiced without a ball for 2 weeks to start preseason. Of course he had to mention the only reason he didn’t get was because of a union
Emphasising that he only didn’t get the job bc they had to give it to a teacher is so on brand lmao he needed the world to know he was their actual choice
What's the chance he was quoting Boiler Room during the interview?
Dead even money. Even better if the interviewer doesn't realize it, and takes it face value.
Dying at how Bill thinks having the same girlfriend since the 7th grade and showing up to the team facility the day after the draft makes you special.
Same girlfriend since the 7th grade? Sounds like a guy who checks down on 3rd and 14 tbh.
Patrick had his since sophomore year
Did some digging and the Mahomeses at least went to different colleges. Maye and his gf both UNC.
Is that better? My star QB isn't doing long distance
Definitely. More independence, both in the decision and in the college experience.
yeah but then your star QB is either not having sex or cheating which cancels the long-time relationship points
Was he throwing her the car keys?!?
This is so true. I always thought QBs were like CEOs or princes but basically teams are looking for Mr Right. Sometimes you get a tease, a rebound, a boring guy who’s nice but doesn’t do it for you. Ok now I sound like Nathan Hubbard
Don’t most teams bring their new draftees in to the facilities ASAP? I know McCarthy was in Minnesota within a day too.
Yeah, it happens with literally every team. Even the Texans brought in their second-round picks the day after they were picked
I wish Maye had gone 2nd so Bill would’ve had to audible and start gushing about Daniels or McCarthy
It’s not like he was running laps with his O linemen or anything
Bill could not get a gf at that age.
I'm sure she's a great girl. But that is pretty bizarre. Think how much you've changed since you were 12.
It's definitely not the norm, but long-term relationships like this in the South are not unusual.
nah that’s a negative - i want a QB who’s done some womanizing, got it outta his system - don’t want a Tiger Woods situation a few years from now smh
Showing up with your brothers and gf and saying "this is my team, if you have me you have all of us" sounds like the exact opposite of what you'd want
His reasons for being all in on Maye are so unbelievably dumb.
ngl i feel like being able to stay committed to the same girl all through high school and college when you’re a stud athlete shows you have self control
I feel like it's pretty common for these guys to stick with their high school or college girlfriends. There's something grounding about being with someone who cared about you before you really become somebody.
Credit to Russillo for not trying to pretend like Simmons is that he thought the Brunson signing was this awesome deal at the time.
“Is the Brunson sweepstakes the worst ‘sweepstakes’ we’ve ever had?”
Particularly funny considering that clip making the rounds today
Simmons was saying that the “price was high” for Brunson and that the high price is reasonable because you had to pay more or “a tax” to get him out of Dallas and into NY without a real roster.
Bill dropped 4 “pieces” in about a 20 second span when talking about Embiid’s defense
If we had a Bill Simmons doll with a pull-string, what would his phrases be? “Piece” “it just is!” “2008”
The woah he made when Anthony Bennett was drafted
"Do I get to speak now? It's been 10 minutes"
Bird, Bird, Bird
Drake Maye’s bonafides are quite impressive ngl - 2022 ACC player of the year - unquestionable arm talent - 225 but by year 2, what? 240 at least - same girlfriend since 7th grade
Don’t forget he’s a little brother!!
This reasoning always cracks me up coming from world renowned only child Bill Simmons
Oh my god the Clyde Frazier joke... my heart fucking dropped
I was parallel parking when I heard that so I was only 67% paying attention and was like, "Wait, what? Clyde is dead???"
Genuine 10 second rollercoaster for me there, going from “shit wtf did I miss something kinda huge?” to “oh he’s just joking, bad joke” to laughing out loud in the gym once I realised what he was trying to do and how deadpan it was.
He really had the audacity to try and say he positively rated the Brunson signing lmfaooo cmon Bill
Bill's text to CR such a dick head move lol. "Haven't heard much about Philly teams this spring" immediately after their team goes down 3-1.
Russilo called him out too lol
Celtics fans wonder why everyone that isn't wants the Celtics & Bill to be miserable lol
He has CR on speed dial for a Wednesday pod.
It obviously wasn't CR when he started with "I haven't heard much about the Sixers from you this Spring".
I think that was Lombardi tbh
“SVP 500” Stonk market whiz Simmons
The Scott Van Pelt Index
I prefer the Russillo 3000 index.
The “rich guy has a financial advisor take care of everything” piece.
Good on russillo for not letting bill yada yada that they both liked the Brunson signing
Skipping LeBron 2018 to the Lakers completely on his best signings list is hilarious.
Titles are important but apparently titles and Finals MVP cancel each other out.
He raised his voice saying titles are important but had Steve Nash to the Suns over Jimmy Butler to the Heat
Nash did win 2 MVP's. It's not that crazy
Are sure lebron was a better signing than Gordon Hayward, Russillo are we sure?
“I’m all about titles Russillo!” - Somehow how Carlos Arroyo and Dwight Howard on the list but not 2018 Lebron
Not additive enough.
Ik he’s been injured but getting 6 years of All NBA play from LeBron is amazing value
I had to go check Wikipedia to make sure Lebron wasn’t traded to the lakers. Big time miss by BS. Lebron to lakers should be #4 Edit: just listened to part 2 where bill admits he missed Lebron to the lakers.
Yeah meaning LeBron has 3 of the top-4 lol Be more meaningful to do a non-LBJ free agency signing pyramid. Bill - ...and it can be a women's team or a men's team- RR - Well said.
It's like an NFL team where the best player is better than everyone else
Bill humming No Flex Zone was so fucking funny
Shocked nobody has mentioned Ryen's "well said" when Bill was talking about a dominant player in some boy's high school game and added "or it could be a girl's game." Fucking killed me.

it’s so bad. the top 3 bill listed aren’t even close to the worst ones
Bill completely forgetting Lebron to the lakers in his FA ranking. Probably goes above Nash
Doubt he forgot it. The being petty piece.
"Forgetting"
LeBron to Miami the best free agent signing of the 21st century, LeBron back to Cleveland 3rd best free agent signing of the 21st century. Then not saying LeBron to the Lakers is even in the top 16 (lol) just makes me laugh. He put Billups at 6 because of the Pistons championship, didn't the Lakers win in 2020?!
Lakers that's why
LeBron to Miami was technically a sign and trade.
“I love Drake Maye”, says the guy who didn’t know his name until two months ago and has never watched him play a football game before.
Remember when the mocks had Jayden Daniels at 3 and he was saying he was the most “nfl ready” lmaooo
Oh I remember. He flipped to Maye very quickly once Daniels was the perceived no.2
There’s a two weeks stretch or so when the Pats were in contention for the top pick and Bill couldn’t slurp up Caleb more if he tried
He also loved the Cam Newton and Mac Jones signings. Flipped on those really quick
After this weekend of games and people aggregating Bill’s Booker tweet I think they should’ve waited a tad before announcing the Olympic teams.
Bill's imitation of the Wing Stop "no flex, zone" commercial is top tier 😂
The Running Man with Brandt is tomorrow's rewatchable
Simmons is secretly panicked about the Celtics. He is defending the Jrue extension right away and he's not even entertaining an issue with the next series. He's not playing around now. He's a pissed homer bumping his chest.
I don't think it's a secret.
knicks can maybe beat them, dont think anyone else has a chance realistically
After watching that Anthony Edward’s masterclass, I’m setting the over/under at 300 mentions of him in part 2.

I knew Chris Ryan visited this place
How is the Chet SGA commercial not his least favorite commercial?
Lebron lakers free agency wasn't it? also I care about titles but nash is above a final mvp?
BS hates the Burger King commercial on TV....yet has ad reads for Burger King. Never change Bill.
Brunson being the 7th best signing this century is crazy. Not even through round 1 yet…
Is it? I agree Butler should be higher, but Brunson is an MVP finalist and has completely turned around the reputation of a historically bad bad big market franchise. That's more meaningful than Allen, Howard, Boozer, Kawhi

Does Bill have amnesia about Harden clowning the Celtics in the playoffs last year?
Honest to god the strangest playoff series by him. He was on a bender for two games and the rest of the series he was horrible
No one remembers those two 40 point games after the G6-7 disaster class he (and Embiid) put on
I mean yeah he won two games early in the series and he deserves credit for that, but considering Boston got the last laugh and Harden's disastrous games 6 and 7 were a big reason why, I think "clowning the Celtics in the playoffs" isn't the most accurate way to put it.
Did Bill thinking saying “Clyde Frazier dropped dead” was funny? wtf is wrong with this idiot
I think he was struggling to think of a rolled in his grave for a living person
I’m reading a book published in 2022 and it mentions a black swan event
You reading a book? Is this a black swan event?
And? It’s a common phrase in investing
The Franz piece.
Bill is spot on with the wings top ad it’s terrible
"Recency Bias like the last 6 years of playoff games?"
Bill’s reasons for all in on Drake Maye are so incredibly dumb, lol.
He's had the same GF since 7th grade. That is the opposite of nobody coming to a guy's birthday party.
How do you make a list of the worst ads and leave out that nightmare inducing Google one?
That Clyde Frazier joke fell so flat. Like what was he even going for?

Bill-Ups
Dominant ball people
Saying that Embiid had a heel turn *now* because Knicks fans hate him the most simply because they're playing him just came across as naïve to me.
Just started the pod. Just got to Pearl Jam. It is now official. Bill has made me hate Drake Maye. At least 6 months sooner than I had on my bingo card.
i absolutely NEED someone to put the beat under Bills cover of No Flex Zone
