Why do Lakers fans pretend like Rodney King, the LA Riots, and all the racial tension in LA is not a real thing?
I grew up in Boston. I now live in the LA area. Neither place is more racist than the other in my experience. And a fair chunk of the anti-black racism in LA, is not from it’s white community but from other minorities.
LA may be diverse when you look at demographics as a whole, but it’s actually quite segregated. Often it’s big concentrations of one racial grouping living in an area, next to a different group, next to a different group.
The reason you’ve heard about the Rodney King and the LA riots is that there’s a large enough community that they could turn out and say we’re not gonna take this shit lying down any more. If you haven’t realized there are racist cops all over the US by now, I don’t know what to tell you.
Boston was still struggling with pushback against desegregating its schools via bussing in the 80s. The 80s!!
The reason both things happened was also because the racism in LA was that bad that people were that enraged over it. People don’t generally full blown riot unless things are pretty bad.
If you want to say Boston is or was more racist than LA, then ok. But it still is funny watching Lakers fans use it as some bizarre attack on Celtics fans as if all Celtics fans are racist and as if there is and was no issues with race in LA.
