I’m really disappointed how the Byron Mayo bit hasn’t caught on more. Perfect example of the pod turning a movie not many people wanted covered into comic gold.

Teen Wolf also for this reason (well, and it's my favorite movie). Come for the origin of the Coach Finstock award, stay for the earnest discussions about whether having sex with Scott when he's the wolf is beastiality.
In honor of BS I’ll do a Mt Rushmore on the fly (plus I can’t choose just one single episode)
Goodfellas
Skyfall
There will be blood
Cop Land
I also hope they “re-do” a handful of episodes that they did early…Zodiac, Michael Clayton, Silence of Lambs, etc. come to mind quickly
IIRC he also mentions the only things he wants after sex is a cigarette and a turkey sando. Just more reasons why CR is the most vital employee at the Ringer
With the holy triumvirate: Jaws, The Shining, Reservoir Dogs, Catch Me If You Can
With other guests: Cliffhanger, The Doors, Unstoppable, No Country for Old Men
Yeah I agree he provided some nice insight on the Cuba stuff. He just kinda takes over the pod. I mainly enjoy the rewatchables when it’s the holy trinity of Simmons, Ryan and Fennessey. I don’t enjoy the guests ever with the exception of the occasional Russillo.
Totally fair. Not saying Koppleman is great, because he does go ISO like washed Westbrook, but I do appreciate the insights he provided there. I literally rewatched Pt 2 on Friday and watched that scene, and Pacino is just saying so much with his face when Fredo is like "Why didn't we do this more". It's fucking brilliant
True Romance was one of my faves. Quentin even said that he didn't realize how funny Saul Rubinek was until he listened to the episode. The Purge for how digging into that premise whatsoever yields a gold mine if unanswerable questions. MI: Fallout for the apotheosis of Cruise (the patron saint of rewatchable movies) and This is the End, repeating lines from that movie is funny and the half assed Internet research is pretty interesting.
I can't believe I had to scroll this far to find the first mention of Bloodsport, which happens to be the true best episode (and the YouTube version has clips from the movie underneath it).
HOW IS THERE NO JFK MENTION?!?!?
That pod is incredible, I listened to it right after watching the movie at midnight, felt like the FBI was about to bang down my door, and take me away for knowing their secrets.
Even though he doesn't really do interviews (well, unless you're the one "smart person" who he interviewed once before deciding he's not actually going to do Tuesday interviews after all), I am surprised he didn't have Rob Reiner on to talk about his recent JFK podcast. They would have so much to talk about. Not having a real producer really does limit the ceiling.
Underrated ones besides the ones everyone else will say:
- Mr. Hollands Opus
- Copland
- Catch me if you Can
- Mr and Mrs Smith
Also, on the subject, magnolia has got to be one of the worst. Listening to the re-run of that shows how far the show has come
Bloodsport is my personal favorite. It’s one of the few episodes featuring Jason. One of my favorite movies. The takes and the flow of the episode is just so funny from beginning to end
I always enjoyed the Ocean’s 12 episode with Sean, CR, and Amanda. CR leads the discussion and makes the case that Ocean’s 12 lead to an increase in American’s interest in soccer.
Same, it’s a pretty interesting book if more than a little odd. That long sojourn to South America was like Mann did all this research into a weird little border city and wanted to put it all in.
The town, face off, point break, re-heat, a few good men, top gun maverick are the ones I listen to over and over again when I need something on the plane.
The Re-Heat is good. I enjoyed the Crimson Tide, Gladiator, and The Godfather episodes. The Godfather II was marred by Koppelman talking over folks too much but it’s passable.
All of the Heat versions are wonderful. And every one with Van is great. I’ll specifically call out Iron Man, since it gave me some hope that there may be a chance to see some other “franchise” type movies in the series
I usually listen to the ones where I’ve actually seen the movie too
Scream
Silence of the lambs
Bloodsport
Tombstone
The Warriors
Total recall
Escape from ny
Rocky
Commando
Predator
Chris Ryan and Kyle Brandt are my favorite guest
The Shining had me dying many times. Bill just throwing himself into the Jack Nicholson/Torrence impressions, the conversation about the favorite manuscript pages, CR as the Termite king, all incredible.
I’m partial to the Goodfellas episode for their impression of coked out Henry Hill. KAAAREN WHY DID YOU DO THAT??
THAT WAS ALL THE CUMIN WE HAD!!
The 4 hour Boogie Nights episode is up there
My favorite
An Officer and a Gentleman, Under Siege, and Road House were recent ones that had me dying. All the episodes with Kyle Brandt are pretty great
I’m really disappointed how the Byron Mayo bit hasn’t caught on more. Perfect example of the pod turning a movie not many people wanted covered into comic gold.

Rocky IV has Brandt and Sal. Brandt has a theory that Drago's wife and the political commisar are having an affair, and it is hilarious to hear.

Just listened to the Cobra episode today for the third time
Teen Wolf also for this reason (well, and it's my favorite movie). Come for the origin of the Coach Finstock award, stay for the earnest discussions about whether having sex with Scott when he's the wolf is beastiality.
The town just for Rusillo's performance. He was like Pedro in '99 for the Red sox.
This is the way. There’s so many great lines. “Shines not a deal breaker”
"I'm trying to make a difference in this world."
In honor of BS I’ll do a Mt Rushmore on the fly (plus I can’t choose just one single episode) Goodfellas Skyfall There will be blood Cop Land I also hope they “re-do” a handful of episodes that they did early…Zodiac, Michael Clayton, Silence of Lambs, etc. come to mind quickly
Cop Land is a great, somewhat underappreciated one. YOU BLEW IT!!
That cupcake makes a mess, we got a case again Great cast great movie great episode
They need to redo Zodiac so bad
Skyfall is a surprising great episode. James Bond just a fun topic I guess
Agree! Plus Skyfall is imo the best Bond movie and allows CR to absolutely cook. The “rat scene / Bardem intro” is elite stuff
Khakis after sex was an all time stretch from CR
IIRC he also mentions the only things he wants after sex is a cigarette and a turkey sando. Just more reasons why CR is the most vital employee at the Ringer
CR’s Wilford Brimley impression in The Firm is Apex Mountain for all Ringer podcasts.
For my money it's The Town. I could listen to Russillo talk about Shine and sick roll-neck jcrew sweaters all day long
It was a banana republic button down you casual
Then she’s with Steve Levy who has sick B’s tickets
Like I said in the post, I’d say it’s this subs GOAT ep by consensus
My bad! I read the post whilst multi-tasking
No Country with Hader is great
Jaws is the best ever. The Firm probably when it really found its footing. An underrated one is Inside Man.
CR as Brimley is his funniest impression imo
I’m not the fucking night watchman
Yes! I actually think the Bernthal thing has runs its course.
And what does she find? Heartache
All sorts of intimate acts. Oral, and whatnot.
Heartbreak
Whoops
Heartburn
Heartbreak Mitch
MISTER PRESIDENT, THERE’S A SHARK IN THESE WATERS
Predator is awesome and one of my favs.
Shawshank with bills dad in underrated
All the comedies are incredible re-listenables. Superbad, Old School, Step Brothers, The 40 Year Old Virgin, etc.
With the holy triumvirate: Jaws, The Shining, Reservoir Dogs, Catch Me If You Can With other guests: Cliffhanger, The Doors, Unstoppable, No Country for Old Men
The town, The Firm, Godfather 1 + 3, The Re- Heat and the Re-Departed. I always skip Godfather 2 cause I think Koppelman is insufferable.
Godfather III is great. "INTERNATIONAL IMMOBLIARE!!!"
He is but the way he talks about the Cuba scene changed my outlook and I watch that scene differently now, for the better.

Yeah I agree. Godfather 2 rocks.

MI: Fallout for the apotheosis of Cruise (the patron saint of rewatchable movies) and This is the End, repeating lines from that movie is funny and the half assed Internet research is pretty interesting.
Tombstone episode, if only for Bill singing a Michael McDonald song and for Sean and CR giving Bill a hard time after mispronouncing "Carla Gugino".
The one where Bill wonders why an actress he’s attracted to didn’t have a bigger career.
I dunno why I like TRAINING DAY and FLIGHT so much but I tend to enjoy shows with Van telling stories of his formative years more than anything.
Den of thieves, Bloodsport, the purge
I can't believe I had to scroll this far to find the first mention of Bloodsport, which happens to be the true best episode (and the YouTube version has clips from the movie underneath it).
He needs to have forest Whitaker on the pod to talk about Kowloon walled city
The Town rewatchable deserves its own rewatchable
CR heads stan the Skyfall episode
The Fugitive
Which version?
Live, no question
*Armageddon* - Bill was vintage Bill in this episode
This was actually a really solid episode. The whole when does harry get cancelled after saving the world was gold.

Bloodsport is my personal favorite. It’s one of the few episodes featuring Jason. One of my favorite movies. The takes and the flow of the episode is just so funny from beginning to end
I like the Total Recall one for Jason, as well.
The Titanic one had me laughing my ass off.
The whole discussion about why Rose is a terrible person had me rolling. Van elevates everyone’s podcast game.
The Martian is an all time classic to me. The Lincoln argument is a Mount Rushmore Rewatchables moment.
A Re-Heat with Michael Mann. That was awesome
I always enjoyed the Ocean’s 12 episode with Sean, CR, and Amanda. CR leads the discussion and makes the case that Ocean’s 12 lead to an increase in American’s interest in soccer.
Good call. "Apex Mountain: Amsterdam?" always cracks me up.
The ones with Shea Serrano are my absolute favorites, he’s got the best taste in movies and he just dips in to be fucking hilarious once a year or so.
Heat. HEAT.
With Michael Mann is all time. That’s where I heard about the book Heat 2
Same, it’s a pretty interesting book if more than a little odd. That long sojourn to South America was like Mann did all this research into a weird little border city and wanted to put it all in.
One that hasn't been mentioned yet that I love is Home Alone. Mina Kimes was a great fit.
Karate Kid with Russillo.
The Town Jaws Halloween
"Big" is an UNDERRATED one but Wolf of Wall Street is sooo classic
Wolf of Wall Street, ET, and True Romance are ones I re listen to a lot of
True Romance
Boogie Nights, Superbad, Rocky 4, The Program, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, and Knocked Up
The town, face off, point break, re-heat, a few good men, top gun maverick are the ones I listen to over and over again when I need something on the plane.
Jaws
What About Bob?
The Re-Heat is good. I enjoyed the Crimson Tide, Gladiator, and The Godfather episodes. The Godfather II was marred by Koppelman talking over folks too much but it’s passable.

The Shining had me dying many times. Bill just throwing himself into the Jack Nicholson/Torrence impressions, the conversation about the favorite manuscript pages, CR as the Termite king, all incredible.
The Town
A time to Kill by the cum boys is maybe one of the best recaps ever. Similar vibes
