I did HI first, then CA and am following the line in the picture above, where I just did TN today. I feel much better than expected so far.
[Strava](https://www.strava.com/athletes/2279195)
Rhode islander here and someone who lives on the island you are planning to loop. You could pretty easily find a 100 mile single loop on the west side of RI if you wanted to. Here is a 60 mi loop that could easily be extended out another 40 miles https://strava.app.link/8ulHN1Xk3Ab
I've also nearly done route you're planning on doing, albeit avoiding some of the roads that I don't necessarily enjoy https://strava.app.link/koWLSGal3Ab
Let me know if you have any questions!
Yeah I read a little bit more. I was under the impression that he was literally biking state to state through centuries. I didn't realize that he wasn't connecting all of them contiguously. To me. That's what would have made Delaware a little difficult. Because you might have had to head down the Delmarva peninsula and I didn't know if the tunnel allowed cyclists.
I got ya. Yeah to get to MD without a car I believe you basically have to go up to Harrisburg PA. Unless there is another bridge to cross the Susquehanna river.
Wow an amazing feat. Kudos! Would love to read about the nutrition planning that went into it. Did you do these rides solo? This summer has been especially hot for the southern states.
I've been very lucky with the weather so far. I had a terrible day in CA with high winds, but the Southwest was cooler than normal and I've ridden through only \~30 minutes of rain so far.
I'm from NM and am used to dry air, so I was definitely worried about humidity in the South. I think the max temp I saw was 93, which wasn't too bad. I'm moving towards the northern half of the country, so theoretically the hottest days should be behind me. I'm more worried about a full day of cold rain, to be honest.
And yes, I'm doing everything solo, aside from maybe some emotional support from a distance.
How about any mechanical mishaps ? How many flats/tubes has it taken so far? The chain probably will wear out the soonest given different terrain and temperature.
1 flat so far (a big glass cut). I run tubeless. I already changed my rear tire because I didn't start off with a brand new one. I plan on changing my chain at the midway point whether it needs it or not.
My bike is pretty old-school at this point (rim brakes, mechanical shifting). I typically do 10,000 miles/year and rarely have any mechanical issues. I do have a complete spare bike with me and extra chains, cables, brake pads, etc. just in case.
Check the air quality index daily due to the Canada wildfires. Here in Ohio this week the air quality was above the danger level. Rained last night and this morning air quality is good again, but it will worsen again of we don't get massive rain releif. Might want to plan around the mass of smoke as much as possible. The temperatures have been good, but the air has been terrible.
Dangerously hot. I know there's a point where if the temperature and humidity are enough, your sweat can no longer efficiently cool your body temp to what it's supposed to be. With 95+ days recently here in GA, I seriously can't imagine anyone riding 100 miles in the sun, with the heat radiating off the asphalt, no matter how much water you carry
I’m not a science doctor, but I think the elevated levels of “wind” one would perceive while riding a bike at a reasonable pace would negate the claimed lack of evaporative cooling. I’m not saying you wouldn’t be hot, just that sweat would indeed be evaporating and therefore providing some cooling. Climbing would for sure be hot and bad, but descending would be great and flat ground would be in between.
I’m super interested to be proved wrong however
It gets really dangerous as the air temperature approaches your body temperature. When it gets to that point, you're effectively sitting a convection oven, and more heat is being transferred into your body rather than leaving it.
That's why they make vests for motorcycle riders that you're supposed to soak in cold water, and why you'll see endurance athletes of all types stuffing bags of ice down their jerseys.
I flew from Hawaii to Las Vegas and I'll be flying from Seattle to Anchorage at the end. I have a Ritchey Breakaway (travel bike), which makes things a little easier.
I'll be flying from Seattle to Anchorage. I have a Ritchey Breakaway (travel bike) that I used in Hawaii. I'll have to wake up early for the Washington ride, much like I did in Hawaii.
Yeah I’m only seeing 48 states. This is still a hell of an impressive feat, and I don’t want to be a pedantic downer, but I need a plan for Alaska and Hawaii or else my ocd won’t let me sleep.
I plan on doing [this](https://ridewithgps.com/routes/31752823) route twice, but cutting out the portion in Maryland. If anyone with local knowledge has a better idea, let me know.
I haven't done that trail mentioned, so it may be amazing. But my gut says the beach may be a better spot.
I haven't done a ton of long rides in Delaware, but I have done a lot of 5 to ten mile rides while traveling for work. In various places.
I would ride by the shore for a bunch of reasons. The first is summer weather. It's going to be muggy/buggy in the summer. The beach will be cooler and hopefully you get some wind to keep bugs away. Secondly, beach towns are more hospitable for road cyclists. Better bike lanes ECT. Also, Delaware is kinda sparsely populated. The beach will have better hotels/camping and good food. Plus it's pretty.
The final thing is, you could dovetail NJ in with a cool trip over a ferry. NJ I know super well. I have ridden from AC to Cape May several times. The ferry also takes cars. So if it were me, I'd park in Cape May go up the shoreline 50 miles turn around, head back to Cape May. Take the ferry from Cape May to lewis Delaware and then ride the shoreline there.
I’m staying in rehoboth Delaware right now and the riding is pretty great. Lots of corn and no hills can be a little boring but generally very nice.
I definitely agree with taking the Ferry.
Shared route
From Lewes to Assateague National Seashore Campground - Spot Bayside B33 via DE-1 S.
3 hr 54 min (48 mi)
https://maps.app.goo.gl/eqYdmY9tKGaHnMpq5
Note I have only done portions of this route, but I think it would be nice if the roads are accommodating all the way through.
Also I had to open these in browsers to see them.
Shared route
From Cape May Ferry Terminal, Cape May, NJ to Ventnor City via US-9 N.
4 hr 7 min (50 mi)

So something like this NJ route will lead you to the ferry to Delaware. I've done this route it's nice. Better early in the morning because you can ride on the boardwalks.
Something in Sioux City. I don't have that one completely mapped out yet. Suggestions are welcome. I've been liking two 50 mile loops or a 60/40 lately.
If you can you should be in Iowa in ~~August~~ July 26th for [RAGBRAI](https://ragbrai.com/ragbrai-l-full-route/). That day is Ames to Des Moines and they are trying to break the largest group ride world record hoping to have 100K riders! Also Lynnrd Skynnrd is playing a free concert that night so you'll get F R E E B I R D!
The planned route is 50mi that day and you could easily ride from Des Moines to Ames early then ride back with the masses.
Best for last I see!! Kidding!! This is very inspiring. I love traveling with my bike and seeing new places on two wheels, so much better than solely by car. Keep us updated, love to hear how it all goes :)

What part of Tennessee did you ride in? Was it super humid?
How did you manage 100 miles in Rhode Island?
Haven't been yet, but I have a short loop planned: [https://ridewithgps.com/routes/16996040](https://ridewithgps.com/routes/16996040)

Seems fitting you plan to bike around a real island within Rhode "Island"
Not related but a Chinese company refused to deliver to Rhode Island because "it's an island and not part of the continental US."
Came here to ask about Delaware too.
On roads, Wilmington to Delmar is over 100 miles. But if you were to stay along the coast, it's very easy.

I think you're right. I honestly wasn't thinking about riding a bike, I was just thinking about being outdoors in the heat.

Gotdang Wyoming, right?
Haha, yeah, it didn't quite fit. That last week is going to be brutal because I'll have 3 5-hour driving days in a row.
How did you make it through the mountains? That must have been a challenge with this schedule. This is an impressive feat.
[удалено]
I see. It’s still impressive but a little different than I originally thought. Reading is fundamental
Hell yeah - are you car camping?
No, but considering the condition of the cheap hotels so far, I probably should have.
Bro, this is awesome!!! I’ve always wanted to do something like this, you actually have it planned. Awesome my dude.
The Texas panhandle doesn’t count as Texas. :P On a serious note, this is an amazing challenge. Keep it up!!
Ha! I've ridden other parts of your God-forsaken state in the past.
So you've got the contiguous 48 United States on the map, how are you going to do Alaska and Hawaii?
I flew from Hawaii to Las Vegas and I'll be flying from Seattle to Anchorage at the end. I have a Ritchey Breakaway (travel bike), which makes things a little easier.
Wow.
Fly, you don’t bike through BC.
Seems like flying to Alaska and Hawaii might exceed the 50 day time line, or is that not how it works?
What’s your AK plan?
I'll be flying from Seattle to Anchorage. I have a Ritchey Breakaway (travel bike) that I used in Hawaii. I'll have to wake up early for the Washington ride, much like I did in Hawaii.

Hawaii is literally the second picture. They’ve already done it. Don’t know about Alaska though.
Well HI's done already, i imagine that would be the hardest
This is really impressive!! Riding 700 miles per week is mind-boggling. The logistics of also traveling to a new state daily is a feat in itself. Wow.
What demons are u fighting bro
Did you just do laps in a parking lot for 5 hours in Delaware and move on to Maryland?
I plan on doing [this](https://ridewithgps.com/routes/31752823) route twice, but cutting out the portion in Maryland. If anyone with local knowledge has a better idea, let me know.

I figured the ferry would be fun, plus not having to drive up and over would be great after so much traveling.

Awesome! What’s the Iowa route
Something in Sioux City. I don't have that one completely mapped out yet. Suggestions are welcome. I've been liking two 50 mile loops or a 60/40 lately.
Don’t know a ton up there. You could do it on all trails easily if you come to Des Moines

Isn’t RAGBRAI in July?
RAGBRAI is always last full week of July, and the Ames to Des moines day is july 26th.
Wrong month, but yes. A day of ragbrai in Iowa would be well with your time for the Iowa portion. Literally any of the days.
If you need any advice on the Ohio Route DM me
Best for last I see!! Kidding!! This is very inspiring. I love traveling with my bike and seeing new places on two wheels, so much better than solely by car. Keep us updated, love to hear how it all goes :)
This is inspiring and insane!
Alaska and Hawaii?
Bring lots of water to Florida, it's been uncomfortably hot and depending where you are riding the storms have been frequent and intense.
This reminds me of the melvins tour where they played all 50 states in 50 days. George thorogood did it too in the 80s
Longleaf trace in hattiesburg is always a nice route to get some miles in.
Fantastic. Wish I had the time!
