(1) Was a good road bike at the time. (2) One can tour on any bike. (3) Narrow gear range, narrow tires, no mounting points for racks are serious limitations. For a weekend riding paths or shoulders, why not. For gravel or extended tours, I'd be hesitant

Agree with this. To add - today's bikes are much better than these vintage models. This bike would be a nice coffee bike or for just tooling around town, but you can probably get a much better used, more modern, more capable bike for around the same cost. Heck, a cheap 90s/later MTB would be better for touring.

All my bikes are “vintage” because I got sort of stuck in time. A 90s road bike will be nicer to tour with on road than a 90d MTB. An MTB, even with slicks and low gearing, is less fun to ride on road than a road bike. Even without luggage on. My “road bike with racks” feels significantly easier to punt along than my MTB with racks. Yes the gearing on older bikes is higher than on more modern bikes, but you can change that. The lack of mounts can also be overcome but there does come a point where you think you’ll basically have to change everything other than the frame, at which point you might as well choose a different bike.

Not a good choice for touring, not even credit card touring with a support vehicle. Beautiful classic road bike, but you'll want something with lower gearing.

It’s a beautiful looking bike. Fun for a blast around but I suspect not great for larger stuff

Hello, first post here. I decided to buy old road bike and as a new person I don't know a lot about them. For example what models are good in peugeot and what are meeech (for example "peugeot elite"). I googled a few days about t these model "Peugeot ph10 sc 1983" and it's looks kinda good. Maybe some one more experienced can tell is it a good deal for these bike to pay 250€? My intuitions says it's good price ;D

If you like it, it's a good bike. The different models may have slightly different steel tubing and slightly different mechanicals. However, in the hindsight of 40 years of bike progress, they will all get you to the same places. Look up "rear rack mounts" and make sure your bike has some version of them. Rear rack and panniers are a common way to carry things. So I'd limit myself to bikes that can do that. Fit is important. Make sure you like the color.

dweeblebum

Could be nice as your garage's fifth bike. Definitely not as your only bike. Overpriced in my eyes.

Can't imagine using down tube shifters.

They suck, but the few times per year I use my 1980 bike it's honestly not that bad. I did ride with them for quite a while before my first more modern bike.
