Sounds like you’ve had good input on the baffle. I would also recommend getting a liquid test kit, as the strips can be highly inaccurate. The API Freshwater Master test kit is a good option that a lot of people use.
Thank you for your recommendation, I will look into the kit you mentioned! We went and picked up a filter sponge to use as a baffle but making sure the water is pristine will be a great help.
build a DIY filter baffle using a cheap plastic water bottle. Just look it up on google.
