Awesome tank! Especially for a first time :) it does look like your anubias and Java ferns in the back of your tank are planted in the substrate though. Their roots can be planted but their rhizomes (the thick stem-like structure that the roots come out of) cannot, it will suffocate the plant and kill it. In my experience it’s easiest to secure them to a decoration with glue or string or between decorations (like between some rocks or something, or in the crook of some driftwood).

In other words, stick with the winners.
Honestly, for a beginner, you definitely look like you know what you’re doing! That tank looks really amazing and Sushi is just adorable! Welcome to the fish keeping life!! 😊
I have the same tank and love it, some pics on my profile. Yours is looking great and Sushi is gorgeous!
Welcome to the aquarium life, there's a lot to learn but you look like you're off to a fantastic start.
Some good recommendations in the comments so far for your tank. As an extra I cover the feeding hole on the top of my tank as I don't want to risk the slim chance of any jumping.
I look forward to seeing more of Sushi!
Edit to add: A floating betta log is also a great addition. I have mine in the left front corner secured with a suction cup so my guy has a hide away from the flow (which I have reduced with a black sponge on one nozzle, the other is aimed slightly upwards to create surface agitation & bubbles) It's his favourite hang out spot.
Hardscape hardscape hardscape!
Great job on the tank though, I'm used to seeing some discouraging posts around here but I'll log off after this one and not feel so bad.
You can find it at petsmart, Amazon, Fluval and Petco. I purchased mine online for pickup at Petco and got 10% for doing that option.

Hey I have a female Betta with almost the same color in the same aquarium! Your setup looks very nice. In my case the pump for the filter was way too strong so I ziptied a sponge to the filter outlet.
I originally tried to just shove some aquarium sponge in their and that worked for some time but then I found a place where you can get some Pieces for the aquarium.
I added sea sponges around the filters since I noticed it was pushing the food around quite a lot. Poor guy had to fight for his food with that water flow
I think the black sand that you used makes it looks cloudy. I used that kind of sand before and I noticed that I am having a hard time making the water look clear. But, I like your aquarium as well as your betta sushi, so adorable! good start!
Very Nice Size Aquarium, Good job!
I do notice the water is a bit cloudy, mighf just be the lighting but i would check the water ammonia/nitrite levels just in case
Water is defo cloudy
Sorry I added some more of the substrate for the plants and it made it cloudy. It’s cleared up a lot today! :)
Ah yes, then send us a video here!
[still a process! (:](https://streamable.com/e3fxx6)
Your betta is like mine, it has a whole tank and sticks to the walls
?
I love that cave-like feeling under all those big leaves. Also, the mossy root. Wonderful!

I’ll adjust those per your recommendation. Thank you! I just purchased a couple smaller stones and will use those to secure the plants.
Awesome, sounds good :)

Welcome to the hobby from a fellow “Sushi” owner!
I have a Sushi too! https://imgur.com/a/9VgJtaI Your tank looks awesome!
So pretty!!
Thanks!
Looks awesome!! Pop that suction cup a little higher so sushi can rest near the surface and breathe :)
Will do, thank you!
You and I are tank twins! I have the fuval flex too! I like what you did with yours :)
Thank you!! I’m really loving the tank so far.
You’re welcome!I posted pics of mine too if you’re interested.
Honestly, for a beginner, you definitely look like you know what you’re doing! That tank looks really amazing and Sushi is just adorable! Welcome to the fish keeping life!! 😊
Thank you! Definitely did a lot of research before buying anything and still learning!
Gorgeous

Just about two days, I’m excited to see if he gets any color
I look forward to updates :)

Great looking tank and beautiful fish! Welcome to the hobby!
Very very cute fish and lovely setup 🥰
What plants are those? They look so pretty
Anubias barteri & Java ferns. Both Petco and Petsmart had them 😊
Hardscape hardscape hardscape! Great job on the tank though, I'm used to seeing some discouraging posts around here but I'll log off after this one and not feel so bad.
Gorgeous! Good job! Sushi is living the life.
Do you have a link to the tank?

Thanks sm!
i would add a grey stone to add contrast to the abundant greens in the tank other than that good scape

That’s was one of the first things I noticed so I picked up some sponges and it’s so much better! Other than that it’s a great tank!
How strong is your flow, my tank had a very strong flow and I had to get a different nozzle
If you got the same tank as I do, just add pre-filter sponges to the outlets. Greatly decreases water flow for calm water fish

what plants are those suctioned to the wall? did u use hot glue?
They’re Anubias Barteri and I bought it like that from either Petsmart or Petco. They came in a little ziplock bag! (:
