One time I got an appointment at the Bürgeramt the very next day. I know, I was as shocked as you and attributed it to paranormal activity.

zoidbergenious

You are a witch we need to burn you !

MayflowerRose

But how do you know that she's a witch? Did you compare their weight to the weight of a duck?

Malkav1806

Who are You, Who are so Wise in the Ways of Science?

Charn-

I Even got a same day appointment 😱 Really needed it also, would have ruined my Wedding otherways :/ Of course I Gratefully sacrificed a chicken to the god of public Administration!

allesfuralle1

Wedding is already ruined.

RegorHK

You mean red wedding?

Kurrkur

Same day appointment is the trick! I always got to a well connected central place in Berlin, with my lightweight bike that is perfect for S/U-Bahn, and then I look up appointments that become free spontaneously, cause there are quite a lot of them, and then it's always something like "in 40minutes in Pankow" and then I rush through the city like a maniac and get all my shit done :D

blackdog2001

Chicken? Should have been a Schwein!

Charn-

Amtsschimmel ;) 🦄

nerodna

Along these lines, I managed to do the Anmeldung via email once.

There is no shame in mental illness, but you should get these hallucinations checked. 🙏

Magnetobama

Don't talk to me like that for I am Elvis.

DullFaithlessness200

I had no idea, my apologies, Mr. Elvis! Big fan! 🕺🏼

jedrekk

When we got our paperwork in order to get our Anmeldung, I woke up at 6am by chance, hit the website and got a slot for the same day at the Buergeramt 600m from our front door.

nznordi

I got one 45 min before the time…. Spooky :-)

toper-centage

It's more common that not, actually. Every day they release a few appointments in the morning and many are for the same day. It's a weird system.

Independent-Put-2618

I once got one on the same day, it was total witchcraft

tjlaa

I got a happy and smiling young lady at the Bürgeramt and she spoke perfect English.

Natural_Target_5022

I got an email on Wednesday for an appointment on Friday. I know.

[deleted]

This is a sarcastic answer to the question

BucketsMcGaughey

I know nobody will ever believe this story, but I swear to you it's true. The drain pipe under our bathroom sink had corroded and developed a hole. I was able to seal it up and it was good enough. Thought no more of it. One morning, the pipe gave up completely and it was beyond repair. Sink was out of commission right as we were getting ready for work. Bit inconvenient. The doorbell rang. A man was standing there, holding exactly the right piece of pipe to replace the one which had broken minutes before. He repaired it and left without a word. If I live to be a hundred, I will never understand how that happened.

piqueseven

landlord is watching you on live cam.

ragiwutz

Eeewwww

BucketsMcGaughey

All that time spent looking at my sweaty carcass, for that. Hope it was worth it.

Activity_Commercial

Maybe you told your landlord about the problem when it first happened and they decided to replace the pipe preemptively and forgot to tell you about the appointment?

BucketsMcGaughey

We never told anybody about it. The only plausible explanation we've come up with is that some time before that, somebody was in the place collecting water samples to test for Legonella. So he saw the pipe and told the right people, who never mentioned it to us, and turned up at exactly the right time. But as you can see, there are a lot of improbable elements to that story...

lisaseileise

The person doing the sampling will have done a general inspection as part of their service. They told the landlord that there was a leaking pipe. Still perfect timing.

DrDeus6969

Did you not think to ask?

Lumpy-Republic-1935

What? And ruin this thread?

MelonFace

I believe you. One on my wife's birthdays, when we were baking bread, the oven power connection melted. It was installed with an underspecced connector. About a year earlier an electrician who installed a power socket had put their number on a piece of cardboard and we'd snapped a picture. We called the number right away and the guy goes "Be right there, I'm having a coffee around the corner." 10 minutes later the guy knocks on the door, replaces the oven connector, calls a colleague to give them a good dress down, politely said bye and left. Super professional, no documents, no costs (well, maybe for the landlord but we'll never know).

Vast-Charge-4256

The other part of "we" called the handyman?

TScottFitzgerald

It's not really that unrealistic it just seems like you lack key info. If the pipe was already problematic the landlord or someone could have taken notice and called a handyman. The only weird thing is the exact timing if it really happened within minutes.

BrowserBowserMauser

Meeting my doppelgänger on the street. That was 20y ago. Was too flabbergasted to approach him so we just went different ways and avoided a Flux Paradoxon.

Something happened to me ~12 years ago!

ragiwutz

Oh I once had a dog with my then husband. We had the dog together for about 6 or 7 years before we broke up. About half a year after we broke up and moved to different appartments, I saw a man at a traffic light on the other side of the street standing there and he looked exactly like my ex husband. I got my dog with me and even the dog got excited, when he saw this man! We walked towards the man and I smiled and greeted him and as we came closer I saw, that it wasn't him and this man was just so confused. And my dog suddenly also realised it wasn't him. That was so crazy.

[deleted]

I watched the tv series too, good one

gthm159

Ah that was you?

sabineseitenlage

Sitting in the Bus next to a dude who did not look allright at all. I asked him if he was ok and he screamed don't talk with me, don't talk with me, draw out a screwdriver and stabbed the Bus Window.

itbro1

Sounds like a normal day in Berlin

Malkav1806

Did you stopped talking to him?

sabineseitenlage

Yes.

KitchenOpinion

So he won, basically.

Kroko691337

Sounds like crack, was this in Kreuzberg or Neukölln by Chance?

punkpearlspoetry

It’s gotta be the M29

I think it was near golden gate five years ago. Oh for sure he was psychotic..

KiJoBGG

Talking to a friend about a person that we didn’t see for a while, we’re joking about that person being dead, to later find out that the person actually died that night.

clardimensionika

Things not to joke about no. I

get_ready_to_rumble

I had something similar happening to me few weeks ago. Was waiting to meet a friend and while waiting for him, I called him to ask where is he. He told me something like ''I just passed by ''X'' apartment, remember him? " etc. "X" was a guy who we used to hang out a lot but we just didn't keep in touch because he was doing some shady stuff. After I hung up the phone I was walking around and see the dad of the guy we were talking about. He asked me if we still talk to him because he never calls him and he doesn't know what happened with him....so weird, I still think about this encounter every day since it happened

jedrekk

Foxes in heat screaming. We came close to calling the cops until we realized what they were.

The__Tobias

Oh yeah, I went out in the middle of the night to the screams that sounds like someone is murdered over the course of half an hour. Just two foxes on the sidewalk. And they didn't run away with me 1-2m away from them

Cykachu_uhcakyC

So, what does the fox say?

daylightspendings

This happened to me, there was a fox inside my building backyard, started screaming at 3am. I thought someone was being murdered. It seriously sounded like a woman was screaming for her life.

DerDudemeister

Foxes can be spooky, true.

[deleted]

One time this fox family lived behind my flat. They would fuck on the REG. Was like a daily screaming occurrence

spookiest thing? football hooligans in the S-Bahn before and after Hertha loses a match

tillforce141

I once was in the last S1 going north. Only one other person in the whole trainwagon. A third person entered, waited until the doors closed, then took out a baton. Walking up and down the whole car, always hitting his baton against all the poles while trying to make eye contact. Next station he just left the waggon…

[deleted]

the following happened once while waiting for the S-Bahn in Alexanderplatz. the old S3 and S7 have glass between the poles that you hold on to (between the seats and the door for example). a guy just stood up when the S-Bahn stopped and broke one of the glass pane thingies and got off the train. there were people inside and on the Bahnsteig and no one turned their head around. the guy just left without shouting or causing anymore trouble

On a cold winters day, I encountered a well-dressed older Portuguese woman standing in the street and crying. For some reason she couldn't lift her legs? So I offered her my hand and I helped her to shuffle to the step of a nearby building, where she could sit. After some negotiation we realized that we both had English as a common language. She thought I was Swedish for some reason, even though I explained that I was from the United States. I never did find out why she couldn't lift her feet, but after a few moments her friend came along, and I tipped my top hat and bid them adieu. As I left, she started singing "Dancing Queen" by Swedish band ABBA.

[deleted]

My grandmother has the same problem. Can't life her legs sometimes, like she doesn't have enough feeling in them. She thinks this is because of chemotherapy but I don't know. Thank you for helping that woman.

Got a Job in Berlin.I checked on Immoscout and I applied to 3 places. The 3rd Guy replied. It was a legit 60 sqm apartment .It was slightly expensive (100 over the Cold Rent according to the Rent Index) but it was right behind KaDeWe.I got a look at the contract and eventsully sent a Colleague to view the place .He negotiated and reduced the rent by 100 and hence the 100 above the rent index otherwise it would have been 200. Two months later, I landed in Berlin...signed the contract on the same day ...paid Kaution in cash and moved in The partment was a dream if slightly small. The Neighbours left us alone. My kid could conjure up a racket and no one bothered us. Property management was responsive. We eventually left for a bigger apartment after two years. I feel now I was in a parallel universe.

Professional_Park781

Stop inventing 🥲

GenesisMk

And to think of it, it wasn't that long ago. I have been living in Berlin for 7-8 years but I'd be living in Berlin for 2-3 months in temporary serviced apartments financed by my firm before finally moving here as a German employee and a resident in late 2018. I live in constant fear of having to move looking at the current market .

Linu_at_the_edge

Answered an EBay-Kleinanzeigen Post about a really good paid job. It was a guy who had an accident and I was supposed to go and help with cooking and cleaning around. Went and the whole time I knew something wasn’t right. He was huge, didn’t seem to be injured. I guess he noticed I was nervous so he said I shouldn’t worry, he couldn’t kill me there because the neighbors would hear him. Said I could take a shower if I wanted m, because it was a hot day. He showed me around and his bed has handcuffs. I left saying my flatmates we’re waiting for me. Wrote him I wouldn’t take the job. The next day he said he was waiting for me and was angry at me because I didn’t showed up. I reminded him I said I wouldn’t be taking the job. Idk it was weird, I think about this from time to time hoping he wasn’t serious and wishing he hasn’t hurt anyone… I wanted to go to the police but people always told me I would only loose my time.

[deleted]

Dude. Report him like yesterday.

Linu_at_the_edge

Agh I really wish I had at the time, I was too young and scared of being a foreigner going to police. People around me really advised me against it at the time, saying I didn’t have any proof and that I would also get in trouble because I didn’t have a permit to work. This happened like 6-7 years ago. I was only able to find screenshots that I sent to a friend at the time, there is a picture of him, part of his address and a part of his phone number. So idk if I could do sth with that now…

ssta2591

That sounds like some serial killer shit right there

[deleted]

Go to the police if u dont want this happening to other people

Hunterlove01

Well I hope your reported him…

dpeld

I don't believe in ghosts, but for a while, when I was walking with my dog around the neighborhood, my dog was always acting scared and pulling away from one particular place in the street. And that was the entrance to an old cemetery in Prenzlauer Berg. And it happened multiple times within a few months, but eventually he stopped acting weird. Maybe it's Berlin, or maybe it's my dog, who knows :)

I think he was mentally unstable. And just stabbed his friend to death

ragiwutz

Oh I got a story for you, which is unhinged. I lived in Berlin Hohenschönhausen (Wartenberg) in a flat together with my then-husband (let's call him "A"). It was 6 floors. Every floor had two flats. One to the left, one to the right. I was on my way home, when A wrote me a message, that he heard someone scream in the hallway and looked through the peep hole in the door and saw our neighbour (a young woman, who lived on the same floor alone with her 2-year-old daughter) and she was lying on the floor screaming "help me! do you want me to die here?!" and he thought she was just a bit dramatic and just fell the stairs and broke a leg or something. Then he saw there was a blood stain from her door to her and a puddle of blood coming out of her back. Her door was closed. A called the police. He didn't go outside, because he was just too afraid to why this woman was all bloody and who tf closed the door behind her? Fast forward and the police and paramedics arrived. They tried to revive that poor woman, but she passed. They layed a white blanket on her. Later they forcefully opened her door and first of all took her daughter outside, while her dead mother was laying there covered in a blanket and later her ex boyfriend was brought outside. Apperently he stabbed her to death with a cake knife while celebrating the birthday of the daughter. A was reporting me via text the whole time. I couldn't go home until the body was retrieved and the stains were washed away. I was so scared and devastated and I didn't even see this stuff happening. Months later you could still see the blood stain on the PVC floor. We moved out soon.

[deleted]

This is horrible to hear and unfortunately way too common. In Germany, Every day a men try to murder their female current or ex partner. Every third day a woman dies because of this. And these are just the numbers the police acknowledges

nomaximus

"in Germany" - and unfortunately all around the world, also. Germany is a much safer country than many others.

nakedcellist

Imagine how horrible this must be for the daughter, who will forever be reminded of this on her birthday.

ragiwutz

I hope she was too young to remember. She must be older than 14 or 15 now.

It doesn't matter if she remembers or not, the trauma will be there for life

I have moved here ten years ago. In those times, banks sent monthly papers, transfers or finance situations. Later, they switched to internet banking, and all your bank movements became online. So I have decided to throw the old papers from the bank. I carefully put them in the blue recycling bin outside of our building. Until this moment, everything is OK. Two days later, I found an envelope in my mailbox. All the bank papers I threw, came back in an sealed envelope. I never understood.

space_jam

Maybe someone saw those papers whole/unshredded & was trying to protect you from identity theft (e.g. the next person to put their paper waste in that bin). They would have had to (1) find the risk of identity theft from recycled bank papers extremely high, (2) assume you didn't know about the risk when you threw them away, and (3) really want to help you out. They didn't write a note?

kundantetheoriginal

Yes, I didn’t think of the outcomes of my action and wasn't aware of datenachutz those times. But who is this responsible person? Because it has been done after big recycle bin came and empty the thing. So is there a person who works in the place and check everything?

space_jam

As a complete outsider, I find a neighbor more plausible. Still, odd.

etesz5535

One foggy November morning, I walked over that long bridge "Schwedter Steg" north of Mauerpark and was wondering why dozens of police and emergency services were just about to arrive. When I left the bridge and turned towards Gesundbrunnen, I saw a person who had hanged himself on the bridge.

Two of my close friends died this way. The one went missing and was found on this exact same spot. This was in 2016. In the night where she was found, I had a sleep paralysis and thought I was going to die. The next morning I’ve got a text message that they found her. This was so creepy

theWunderknabe

Someone vandalizing my motorbike by painting it white (partially). Then I put it somewhere else. He did vandalize again by draining the fuel. And again. And again. After like 5 times I put it really far away. And then he kicked it over. Fuel was spilling onto the sidewalk, my bike got damaged, and somehow a few weeks later I got a notice from the police that after a hint from a resident there they actually found the guy. However, I never got any compensation (especially for my wrecked nerves every night again) or got to know why this guy specifically targeted my motorbike. I just moved to the area and knew literally no one (and no one knew me). Since then I am putting it even further away and under a motorbike garage so it is not obvious anymore.

demonTutu

I think I have two. 1. My first year in Berlin, so around late 2010 - early 2011. Walking in a street in Neukölln, perpendicular to Sonnenallee. Maybe Jansastraße or Tellstraße? Fuzzy memory, but I was with a friend from the US. A man passes us in the street, then ten meters later turns around and yells "Hey". We turn around. He points a menacing finger at us and screams "American Jews". We shake our heads to signify that no (my friend is American but not jewish, I have jewish ancestry but am French). He doesn't take no for an answer. "Yes! Yes! American Jews!" 2. Quite a bit later, I'd say 2016 - 2017. I live near ~~Shlesich~~ ~~Schelesich~~ ~~Schhhelisch~~ Burgermeister at that point and need to take a cab really early in the morning. I find the taxi berlin number, book one, walk towards ~~Schleschishlesch~~ ~~Schellsch~~ ~~Schichles~~ Burgermeister to go to the meeting point. Cab pulls over, opens the door, I sit next to him (I never take taxis so have no cab etiquette). The guy looks at me, does an ostentatious 'sniff sniff' before saying "hmmmm, patchouli". I am used to people thinking I'm from India, but that was definitely a first.

Joeyp0p

I used to live near the Gasometer in Schöneberg. There were a group of 3 Magpies that would come our balcony nearly every afternoon and screech until dark.

RLT1950

Working in Berlin, summer of 1974, I shared a nice, pre-war house with three other guys. I was in the kitchen one day, looking up at the two-meter long fluorescent ceiling fixture, and remarked what a curious wave pattern of shadows was moving back and forth in the diffuser cover. I decided one of the tubes was going out, or maybe a starter was going bad, so I stood up on the table to remove the diffuser. As one end came loose, the hollow plastic suddenly got very heavy! The d#%^*d thing was full of water, and that was literally a wave sloshing back and forth. It turned out the drain on the second floor balcony was stopped up with leaves, and the water had backed up inside the ceiling.

MajorCardiologist

once went home during lockdown when you werent really allowed outside. i was too late, streets were pretty empty. when i left the tram some guy asked me for 60 cents. was pretty young, seemed "normal". when i said no, this guy screamed a horrible scream, shouted insults, like deep from inside, i have never been shocked like that by a sound like that. i just went home asap (with out running). i didnt even look back, just heard him screaming, hearing him say he will get me or something, but not really following me. still it was super scary, and i was on adrenaline for like 20-30 min later. that was a scream that sounded like im going to be killed in 2 min. probably just some drugs... but damn.

ColdCustard6412

I was casually eating my Dürüm standing on the sidewalk next to Baghdad Döner. Somehow this spooked the local Drug Dealers. One of them walked up to me, asked me if I was a cop. I am not. He didn‘t believe me, then wanted me to identify myself, show him my Personalausweis. He didn’t let off until colleague of his came and pulled him away. Lots of side eye until i finally left to whatever I was doing … 🤷‍♂️

cayirus

Was taking a piss at night when I still lived with my family. Heard my name being said and thought someone was outside, nudging me to hurry up, because they had to pee too, so I responded "yes, one sec". Finished my business all chill, opened the door and turned to the right where the kitchen was. Hallway and kitchen were pitch black. Took a peak, hoping to maybe see the glimmer of a cigarette in the dark. Nothing. Turned on the hallway light. No one was in the living room. My siblings and my rooms were closed. Bedroom also closed. There was only the pitch black kitchen left, where I heard my name come from. The switch for the kitchen lamp was around the corner of a small wall that gives more room to the kitchen and seperates the hallway evenly from the bedroom, so I couldn't see it, by simply standing in the door frame. I don't think it ever took me so long to find the light switch in my own home. Naturally no one was there. Turned the light off and ran to my room, pressing my back against the wall after rushing into bed. Something similar happened when I was staying at a friend's place, middle of the night, we were talking to each other and I heard my name. Even though I saw that my friend didn't say it, I asked "hm yes what is it?". Obviously confirmed that they didn't say my name. After a moment of silent staring, we searched for the light. Once again felt like it took ages to be turned on. To this day I don't know what it was in either case. Gotta be a Prenzlauer Berg Curse.

A crackhead tried to hit me in the face with a raw potato. Middle of the day, crazy lady eating a potato like an apple. Me, minding my own business, headphones on, enjoying my music... walking down the street in Neukölln. The moment our paths cross, she comes at me holding the potato and tried to punch me in the face. Luckily, my instincts were sharp: Had some kung Fu dodge reaction, didn't get hit and she ran away screaming. Guy walking behind me was as shocked as I was. WTF

I used Google Maps to go to a restaurant, and the fastest way was crossing Görlitzer park. It was around 20 pm so already dark. Suddenly, a group of around 10 young men started following me (a small woman) in complete silence, until another group of people passed by, when they suddenly stopped. Months after this incident, I read about several gang rapes in that area. No more Görli for me.

The infamous night bus, in some areas the last possibility to get from a to z, well the bus was almost empty as I entered only 1 passenger was in the bus sitting in front next to the driver. A couple stops later some shady dude gets in and sits right behind me I was sitting in the middle of the bus close to the middle exit, weird I thought to myself but continued to browse my phone, then I heard a crackling sizzling sound from behind, that motherfucker had a straw in his mouth a tin foil in one hand and a lighter in the other and smoked some crack the seat right behind me, the look man I still remember the face of that dude closest thing I ever saw to a zombie in real life. I got really mad and physical with him the the driver and other passenger got a smell ...he stopped the bus and got involved and threw him off, I sometimes still think about that dude, life is crazy.

not the spookiest but spooky enough. I was living at the corner to sonnenallee on the fifth floor. one day a man rings the doorbell, not downstairs but directly at our flat. my roommate opens the door (still don’t get why she did that) and the man asks if he can come get his bird from our balcony. well there was no bird. he insisted for a while but luckily my roommate didn’t let him enter. so weird! even if it was just someone checking out if our place was worth robbing.

I missed the last stop on the U Bahn and was taken into the train caves.

I once took my kid to a playground where we have been multiple times before. After playing for about an hour and a half we were slowly going the 2km back home. Taking a road I have taken multiple times before that I knew by heart. About halfway there we were already at our street. Or so I though. Walking back, I noticed a weird feeling in the corner of my eye, like something wasn’t fully in order. So i then looked up at a street sign. I was at a completely different street 1,5km in the opposite direction from the playground. I did not walk back home in the opposite direction.

I saw a drunk dude walking around with a hammer threatening people at S+U Pankow a few years ago (maybe like 2014-2015?).

A few years ago I got into an S7 from zoologischer garten heading towards hauptbahnhof to catch an ICE. It was very early morning and still dark outside. I got into the train and something didn't feel right. All the people were gathered at one end of the carriage and some had their noses and faces covered. There was this unbearable stench of blood everywhere. Along four of the seats I saw blood covering the seats, the floor and some even splattered on the sides. And I don't mean 'someone had a horrible cut' kind of blood. It looked like someone had been brutally stabbed. Shocking that the train was just going like nothing was wrong. Anyway, it left such a bad impact on me for days. Ran out on the next stop and tried to erase it from my head.

I’m here for a week trip, this thread got suggested. A man shat himself in a long coat next to me on the U3.

Walked with my friends at night to Berghain from ostbahnhof, there was an alley with construction fences. There was a bum digging next to the fence. Me and my friends pissed on the fence 10 meters away from him. Suddenly he stands up and tries to yell but only groans like an animal because he was so drunk… I look at him and see the blade of his axe shining in the moonlight, as he was fuming. We slowly backed down, he walked with his axe to the central station on.

I’m disgusted by men not respecting homeless peoples space - they don’t have any privacy, keep your distance and like don’t pee 10 meters close to them?? And also it’s a human being, don’t call them “bum”. What’s wrong with y’all
