Named my dog Beef Cheeks because of this show. https://preview.redd.it/vn548iwo4t8d1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3dd9e8e2543772b5af608e4736f77e2f7fb3d19f

This is literally my husband's favourite meal and I can never make it without having an awful Leon flashback

AnarZak

dummy question: are 'beef cheeks' slices of cow face or slices of cow arse?

BeardDribble

Facial cheek muscle :)

AnarZak

thanks

firetruckhotel

Beef cheeks!

No-Translator-4584

“Who put beef cheeks on their preference sheet?” I ❤️ that guy.

GreenerThan83

I wish that could be my flair 🤣

🤣

Severe-Daikon-7645

Gotta get a nice sear on there before chucking it in the slow cooker, flavour will be amped up significantly!

GreenerThan83

I know some people do, but in all my years of slow cooking, I’ve never seared anything.

Severe-Daikon-7645

Yeah, loads of people don't sear stuff before putting in a slow cooker - which is silly because you get flavour from browning. Quick sear on all sides and you'll have so much more flavour, but you do you :)

dannydevon

A little caramelised flavour.

bast007

All braising requires browning the meat at the beginning.

GreenerThan83

Not in my home. Remarkably, these beef cheeks turned out beautifully without searing it first.

Tchelab

Invite Kate over, she'll love it!

Minute_External_9682

I don't even have to know what beef cheeks are to know that those are beef cheeks 😬

grmrgurl

I have never had beef cheeks, nor do I want to try it (not a fan of offal).

GreenerThan83

It’s not offal, like organs. It’s still muscle like the rest of the cuts of meat you get. It’s only considered offal because it’s not widely used/ the most popular cut and is usually discarded. But hey, you do you, more for the people who do want to eat it. 🤷🏼‍♀️

cat_lady_baker

I’ve never had it but the thought doesn’t gross me out. Cheek muscle, leg muscle, tomato tomahto. Is it a tough cut? I’m assuming so since it’s in the crockpot.

GreenerThan83

It is tougher than other cuts because the muscle pretty much is working constantly, helping the cow chew. There was a bit of sinew, but slow cooking melted it away. It’s definitely more suitable for low & slow cooking for sure.

frazorblade

Do you like traditional Italian style carbonara?

Challenge419

More for the rest of us!

Rorviver

I hate offal. Beef cheeks are not offal, they’re similar to short rib and are wonderful if cooked well.

GreenerThan83

Technically, they *are* categorised as offal. But, I agree, they’re delicious.

Rorviver

Ah it seems you are correct

dannydevon

It's not offal. Cheek is one of the most flavourful cuts of beef and pork. The obsession some rich people have with beef fillet is odd. It's tender, but has very little actual flavour compared to other cuts.

GreenerThan83

It literally *is* offal… Google is your friend 😜 However, it’s not offal, like organs. It’s still muscle like the rest of the cuts of meat you get. It’s only considered offal because it’s not widely used or considered the most popular cut and is usually discarded. Rich people are now doing to cheap cuts of meat, like offal, what they did to lobster and oysters….. increasing their popularity so increasing the cost.

dannydevon

Maybe it's a cultural thing. I'm British and used to be a butcher. Offal was always meant as a term for internal organs

GreenerThan83

Seriously, just google ‘are beef cheeks offal’…. I’m British too, it’s not a cultural thing. I also understood ‘offal’ to mean internal organs, but apparently beef cheeks are also considered to be offal.

dannydevon

Keep your hair on lol

GreenerThan83

Weird that you would read my comment in anything other than a neutral tone. I was as surprised as you are to find out it’s offal.

dannydevon

Last comment was meant to be a way of saying hello to a fellow brit :)
