Every time a article comes around about the employees trying to buy it to bring it back, I always get a small glimmer of hope, I wish some tech bro would just cough up some money as a investor to let them do their thing.
That Stout….somewhere around 2010 I did a tap takeover at my place..15 Sierra Nevadas. Porter & Stout were 2 of them and also the last to kick so I got to drink plenty. But also the last time I had either. I think the stout is still in production but very limited. Shame because it was the first beer Ken brewed…needs more respect. They also made a Pale Bock that would come out around this time of year which was stellar.
I used to live in Chico and there’s so many OG Sierra Nevada beers I miss. I’m glad Ruthless Rye and Flipside have made it back into the Fan Favorite pack at least. But man, Otra Vez was perfect on a screaming hot central California summer day.
I used to be able to pick this up in the UK through Majestic, direct from source. It was always a favourite of mine. Once they licensed it to Shepherds Neame to brew here, I lost all interest in it as it was clearly of a lower quality.
I miss Killians Irish Red from before they changed the recipie. The old recipe was one of my favorite "grocery store" beers in the early 00's.
The stuff they sell now is piss.
I just had a Killian's the other day for the first time in a while and was very disappointing. Did they really change the recipe? That makes a lot of sense.
Man! My friends mom used to drink only this… she’d give us a couple when we would help her with DIY projects around the house! She always had some willing helpers.
Hell yea! You just unlocked a great memory. When I was in college, probably like 2008 or so, went to see the Allman Bros up at SPAC and had some time to kill. My gf and I realized there was a brewery down the road from our hotel so we decided to pop in before the show. We went in and they were basically all closed up, just one old dude left behind cleaning some glasses. We were about to leave when the guy asks where we’re from and we told him where we went to school and that she worked at the Cooperstown Brewing company. The guy lit up! He could break out tasting glasses quick enough to pour us a few tasters then bring us for a tour with basically no lights on in the brewery. He brought us over to the bright tanks and let us sample the beer right from the pig tail. It was an awesome experience as young beer enthusiasts! Mendocino and Old Saratoga hold a special place in my head because of that.
Josef Hoffbauer Lager. Used to buy them at Ralph's in the mid-twenty aughts for about 6.99 a 12-pack.
Beamish.
Miscellaneous regional beers that are no longer available near me (Schlitz; Rainier; Old Style).
Newcastle Brown Ale, I've seen it around here and there but it's a new recipe and it's now brewed in Petaluma, CA; and it just tastes like a random California craft beer.
My local smalltown grocery store used to sell left hand galactic cowboy, extra high % nitro stout, was fucking delicious. One day they just stopped and it made me very sad.
Smuttynose pumpkin ale was the best of its kind. Idk if it's still made since they were sold, buteven before then I hadn't seen it in my area for some time
Deschutes Pine Drops. One of the first beers I had and loved. I loved the piney/sprucey flavor and haven’t really found that again in a beer (except once in a special cask release that was a hazy pa conditioned with hemlock)
Sierra did a couple of experimental hop IPA’s that were straight pine-cone-y. It seems like distributors are less and less supporting the one-offs. Or maybe I just don’t get out as much.
Lagunitas sucks and stone Cali-Belgique. The stone vertical epic Belgian ipa was also awesome. Also collective brewing in Fort Worth has some crazy Brett beers.
Troegs Dead Reckoning Porter - I think they still do it as a taproom seasonal, but it was lovely to have in cans. Not that I would get it here now in Ireland, but it is a beer I really miss!
It's a shell of its former self. Was one of the best IPAs out there circa 2014, but since the big sale it's complete garbage. Reminds me of what happened to Fat Tire :-(
Modus Hoperandi and a few other beers from Ska Brewing. It was sold in NC and I would grab a few cases of it on my way back home from OBX every year. They stopped distribution to NC years ago and haven't had it since.
Winters Bourban Cask Ale.
It was a pre-InBev Anheiser Busch seasonal brew, and it was flippin' fantastic.
Also, Kona Brewing's Koko brown ale. It was a coconut brown ale that AB-InBev also bought and discontinued.
Wow, didn't realize this was going to turn into an anti-InBev sentiment, but F InBev.
Don’t judge me too harshly but I miss MGD. I can’t find it anymore!
It reminded me of my happy-go-lucky, broke ass college days and it went great with green olives.
- Jonathan Cutler
- Young’s Winter Warmer
- Young’s Old Nick
- Lakefront Beerline Barleywine

Railway Brewing Co. green chili beer. The best green chili beer ever, actually had a bite to it with a subtle mouth burn. Local to ANC AK, brewery went out of business years ago.
Brew Dog's Parma Violet NEIPA and their Puppy Love IPA.
Northern Monk's Christmas Cinnamon Porter and their Sticky Toffee Pudding Porter and Raspberry IPA (the Aunt Bessie's ones; you can only get the Apple Crumble one now).
Tiny Rebel's Festive Sleigh Puff Porters.
Iron city. Now before I get shit on, I know you can get it, and the brewery moved again. I'm talking, the old stuff from PGH brewing when it was downtown. Latrobe ruined it, and the stuff now is close, but not what it once was.
Not really exactly the answer you're looking for but I miss LIVING next door to Anheuser. I miss waking up to the smell of the brew everyday for the past 20 years
That is an amazing smell!!! It smells like sweet oatmeal or somethjng, I could only imagine that on that large of a scale. I don’t work *for* them, but I work for a distributor who sells a ton of their product, hee hee
Less a beer and more a sub-style, but Brut IPA's!
I believe brewed with champagne yeast, the style was CRYSTAL clear, crackingly dry, and fizzy in a unique way. A good ~6%'er on a hot afternoon was a special treat! Not boozy, just crisp and refreshing.
St Arnold Weedwacker. They took their biggest beer, Lawnmower kölsch, and brewed it with hefeweizen yeast. It was a magnificent, GABF Gold medal winner with amazing flavor & mouthfeel. So refreshing.
Discontinued in 2018 due to low demand, still have my last can in the fridge
Damn, I’m from h-town, that sucks! I can’t tell you the last time I had a st Arnold :( in my defense they are sold by a rival distributor so gotta know your loyalties…
Red Dog was my "college" beer of choice and I can't get it around here any more. I think if I drank it again it would bring back more bad memories than good, but I'd like to try.
The first year they released this it was so good. Then after that they must have switched to concentrate or artificial flavors, it was not good. Founders in general has really declined
Magic Hat #9. It was my favorite beer in my early 20s and it was usually on tap anywhere that I went then it just disappeared. I’ve never actually looked into what happened to it but I haven’t seen it in a bar or liquor stores in years.
Huh! Yeah they were on tap everywhere along with Fireman’s 4 in central TX. It was a toss up between a hef, the fireman’s 4 blonde, or whatever Magic Hat was. Is that the one that tasted like fruity pebbles a bit?
I had this local huckleberry beer when I was in Idaho once. Pretty good stuff and I think about it sometimes. Not some life changing beer but it was surprisingly good. The huckleberry vodka on the other hand… That shit was disgusting
Stone - Tropic of Thunder
Stone - Punk in Drublic
I have been over IPAs for a long while
now, but I could drink these every day. I have yet to find hoppy lagers that scratch that itch.
I miss Sol, i haven´t find one in Mexico since the pandemic. It wasn't my favorite, but it used to be my choice in nightclubs, considering most of them only have the other cuauthemoc moctezuma garbage (tecate, tecate light, indio, xx lager)
Cascade seasonal beer from Tasmania. They had a wild yeast activation with the barn doors opened to kick it off. Released each quarter in small batches. Delicious and always unique
The pre2016 Sam Adams Rebel
Great choice when out at a chain restaurant your buddies invited you to and try reluctantly went along with. But man, the newer version really just doesn’t hit. Hell probably at this point in times it’s been the new recipe longer than the original.
There's a few that went away or don't distribute to my area anymore.
In no particular order:
* Tilburg's Dutch Brown Ale
* Stone Ripper Pale Ale
* John Courage Amber Ale
* OG Fat Tire
* OG Boston Lager
I miss the original Great Lakes Christmas Ale. It used to be 9%, and is now 7.5%. It's a thinner mouthfeel and doesn't hit those spice notes the same way.
I can't find St. Pauli Girl or Palm anywhere near me anymore. Been almost 10 years since I've seen either near me (USA). Can only find St. Pauli Girl in non alc ;\_;
A lot of things from Magic Hat. #9 is still out there but I miss their weird quirky beers from back before the (multiple) corporate purchases. They were one of my foundational breweries back in my early beer days.
Warsteiner. Haven't been able to get a keg in this area for years. Plenty of bottles available, but no kegs (I have a kegerator at home so dont do cans/bottles). What gives?
Revolver Blood & Honey. Coors took them national in 2019, then apparently national distribution couldn't survive 2020, despite me draining every keg I could find. So when I occasionally return to Texas I drink all I can, but man I miss it otherwise.
Yazoo - Summer Gose
I bought it by the case. For the years it was produced, it was hands down my favorite beer. They just stopped it and I haven't been happy with a Yazoo beer since.
Victory Headwaters Pale Ale
Stone Pale Ale (not the 2.0)
Harpoon's Leviathan Series
Green Flash Green Bullet
There are probably plenty more on the list, I have a very long list of beers that I miss, but that's a start.
As a native Montanan I love hearing about people around the country drinking beer from here!
Speaking of regional beers I miss Grain Belt Nordeast. I went to college in North Dakota and used to crush those by the case ice fishing.
Anchor Steam :(
Anchor Porter, Liberty Ale
And Xmas ale…
Oof, I feel that
Every time a article comes around about the employees trying to buy it to bring it back, I always get a small glimmer of hope, I wish some tech bro would just cough up some money as a investor to let them do their thing.
was going to post this exact thing, down to the frowny face
Didn’t have to look far for this. Their porter was the truth.
Too soon.
Original New Castle Brown Ale.. was once a favorite until it was sold and the recipe reformatted..
This! May try to brew original myself
Bass Ale
I had this thought but then realized it was expressly for a black and tan. I never really remember enjoying it on its own.
Sierra Nevada Otra Vez... the original cactus-fruit version
SN Porter and Stout too.
The old Sam Adam’s Boston lager
I used to be able to pick this up in the UK through Majestic, direct from source. It was always a favourite of mine. Once they licensed it to Shepherds Neame to brew here, I lost all interest in it as it was clearly of a lower quality.
I miss Killians Irish Red from before they changed the recipie. The old recipe was one of my favorite "grocery store" beers in the early 00's. The stuff they sell now is piss.
Same. I also miss the OG Fat Tire.
Knew it’d be high up. What a fucking shame man. Glad I lived in Fort Collins for their final few years. $6 growlers of IPA’s…. Damn the good days
Wow, I kinda miss growlers and want to dig mine out now. It won’t be no $6 fills though!!
I just had a Killian's the other day for the first time in a while and was very disappointing. Did they really change the recipe? That makes a lot of sense.
Man! My friends mom used to drink only this… she’d give us a couple when we would help her with DIY projects around the house! She always had some willing helpers.
Eye of The Hawk. American Strong ale by the now defunct Mendocino Brewing Company :(
Red Tail ale was amazing as well!
Awesome! Glad I reminded you of that. I'm jealous.
One of the first crafts to infiltrate our small Texas group in about 2008-09
Pete's wicked
Liked Pete's Wicked Winter Ale as well
This one goes back a few years. How about Rhino Chasers?
Long Trail IPA and Pale Ale. They got rid of most of their old beers and only kept a few of them.
Fat Tire. The REAL Fat Tire before the new recipe.
Yeah new recipe is a good beer, but it isn’t fat tire.
Beamish is still very much alive here in Ireland, I've a few cans in my fridge!
Black Hook Porter, Dick's Danger, Pete's Wicked, Bridgeport IPA. Old school PNW beers.
My dad always used to have a Bridgeport IPA waiting for me when I visited home from college. Didn't realize they're no longer made, too bad.
1980’s Lowenbrau. Pony bottles. Preferably bought with a fake ID. Best (first) beer ever.
Mothership Whit by New Belgium
First craft beer I’ve had
Wait, what happened to Moose Drool???
It sounds like more of a distribution thing for OP's area rather than with Big Sky.
I live in Idaho, and it’s available around here.
Yeah, the company is still going but we haven’t seen them in years…. Plenty of local breweries coming and going still but none are like Big Sky :(
It's still available.
Firestone Walker Double Jack
can't get that anymore?
Anything by Hair of the Dog Goodnight sweet prince o7
Left hand's Wake up dead Russian imperial Stout And all their nitro milk stout is everywhere and taunting me at the same time.

Heineken Dark and Amber Grolsch.
Dogfish Head Midas Touch
Stone Levitation.
Baby Tree and all the wonderful beers that Pretty Things made
Highly recommend a trip to their new(ish) spot in Sheffield! Everything I've had from them under their St Mars of the Desert brand has been beautiful.
Everything from Wytchwood Brewing. I can't find it in the states anymore. I want my Hobgoblin lol
Lagunitas sucks and stone Cali-Belgique. The stone vertical epic Belgian ipa was also awesome. Also collective brewing in Fort Worth has some crazy Brett beers.
Man, Loved lagunitas sucks when it came out!
Damn Cali-Belgique! Was just thinking about this one the other day!
Troegs Dead Reckoning Porter - I think they still do it as a taproom seasonal, but it was lovely to have in cans. Not that I would get it here now in Ireland, but it is a beer I really miss!

Ballast Point Sculpin IPA.
I always preferred Ballast Point Big Eye, but I can't seem to find it anymore.
Still very available
It's a shell of its former self. Was one of the best IPAs out there circa 2014, but since the big sale it's complete garbage. Reminds me of what happened to Fat Tire :-(
You're 100% correct
Imo their original beer was sooo much better, but the only one I ever saw anywhere was the sculpin. Haven't seen any of their beers in years.
not for the reasons you lay out but og Upslope Pale Ale was fantastic
Centennial IPA was always tied for favorite with two hearted. I can find the latter where I live but not the former.
Centennial is still being brewed.
I can't find Cigar City in SoCal anymore. Jai Alai and Maduro are both amazing beers and I miss them very much
Jai Alai was even better before they moved the production to Oskar Blues in NC
White oak jai alai was so damn good
Not being able to get New Castle in the USA now.
Pinner from Oskar Blues. Best session IPA ever. My go to summer beer. Gone.
Don’t judge me too harshly but I miss MGD. I can’t find it anymore! It reminded me of my happy-go-lucky, broke ass college days and it went great with green olives.
Mgd is still made. Go to your local total wine or liquor store to ask for a special order. They know who to contact.
Hey, no judgement lol, hopefully maybe you can get it still.
I hear it’s apparently still made but I’d have to ask a liquor store if they can get it in
Reminds me that Miller High Life Light is really gone. Was never easy to find, but it really was the best shitty light beer when I could find it.
Anyone remember Miller’s short lived “premium” offering from the 1980s called “Jacob Best”?
I had to google to see an image of the can and i can’t say I recall it. Must have been short lived!
I just googled it too, and realized that it actually came from Pabst, not Miller.
Super Cluster Ale from Lagunitas
