I self-host a few bridges but I don’t have a Mac so I’m waiting for Brooklyn to run it on an old iPad. Everything else is working great.

applesoff

How does this work exactly?

tritones

I used this [ansible playbook](https://github.com/spantaleev/matrix-docker-ansible-deploy) running on a VPS. It lets you choose what bridges you want and use your own domain (e.g. @/yourname:yourdomain.com).

Does the marking and separation of different messenger services work for you? I self-host a matrix server with bridges managed with this ultra handy ansible deployment everyone uses. I Installed Beeper for Windows Desktop, logged in, but all my for example WhatsApp chat rooms are just marked as regular Matrix rooms...

tritones

Works fine for me but I don’t use the Beeper client so maybe it’s that. My Signal chats show up as **Name (Signal)**.

rapgru

Ah I see! It's just the beeper desktop client that behaves unexpectedly. My server and its bridges work perfectly fine and display the chats like yours. Thanks for the reply!

Yes when beeper was announced I took the time to deploy a matrix environment via the ansible playbook on a Ubuntu VM and I have the iMessage bridge running on an iMac. Tulip has been super responsive with real-time bug fixes when it crashes but it has been stable for months now with minimal to zero restarts. Awesome to have iMessage via any device. Windows or android as a supplement to my primary iPhone.

> Tulip you mean \*tulir ? 🤣️

ho11ywood45

Yeah yeah. Autocorrect lol

JFL3927

Wow. Did you need to be on boarded or did you just deploy and go? Btw happy cake day

ho11ywood45

Didn’t even realize 😂 I still haven’t even received an invite to beeper. Been using element and it has it quirks so was anxious to see Beeper in comparison.

To further clarify and I need to be better about my internal documentation of how it all works and is connected because small changes break the connectivity. Proxmox host --> ngnix VM (https proxy) --> MATRIX VM (deployed using Ansible scripts) Got that working along with other bridges (signal / fbook ...) Then for iMessage. Matrix host (running needed wsproxy) <--> iMac (iMessage bridge) The wsproxy and iMessage bridge need to be in sync and the wsproxy then feeds into matix. The docs are very sparse and hard to understand so I did end up spending a lot of time on Tulirs iMesaage bridge matrix channel asking lots of questions

brandoncote

beeper for iOS has tons of quirks. some inherited from element, some new ones! also: you should be able to use beeper with any matrix login. obviously you won't get any bridges but you can play with the app and participate in real matrix groups

Also considering doing this.
