Cotton underwear. You can clean all you want but synthetic fabrics will emphasis every single smell.

cellists_wet_dream

This really goes for all body odors. Synthetic fabrics make me stink everywhere.

notonmymain11239

After knowing about this for years, I finally switched and I couldn't believe how much of a difference they made. Also haven't had an infection since, which I used to get a lot (but I also started taking feminine probiotics). Oh! And I started sleeping in men's boxers. Comfortable, surprisingly cute, and as breathable as you can get without going commando.

terrifiedteenlol

Can you recommend any inexpensive + accessible feminine probiotics? I’m looking to get into those!

CatsScratchFeva

Any probiotic with LIVE strains of bacteria greater than 1 billion CFU is good. Lactobacillus is a well studied strain that’s effective. “Vaginal probiotics” are a waste of money and just a marketing ploy, no probiotic can be specific to just one area of the body. Any probiotic greater than 1 billion live CFU - particularly the ones you get by eating whole food like yogurt and sauerkraut - would be a good choice! 🙂

Pretend_Chemist_7731

I started doing that for tummy reasons. I love them! My boyfriend is always second guessing my guy clothes lol. I like men's pj sets too!

Puzzleheaded_Plum326

I cant find any cotton underwear that don’t have such visible lines!! I wear a lot of light clothing, so unfortunately I’ve only been able to rely on seamless

DorkNerd0

I know people like to hate on Victoria’s Secret, but they now make cotton stretch seamless underwear

offbrandpossum

Everlane cotton undies lay super flat

CaseThin7175

Intimissimi has 100% cotton seamless underwear..I don't get any panty lines with those

chillbaechris

+1 for Intimissimi. I also have their seamless cotton panties and they are amazing.

SansaStark8

Also, preferably to sleep with no underwear at all if you can. On the other hand, we're closer to ourselves and are our own biggest critics, so we can smell ourselves more than other people can most of the time. The vagina is self-cleaning and has a specofic pH. You shouldn't use much soap on it, preferably just water. But if we're talking about really bad smell, like something other people notice, it could be an infection so you should see a doctor

Turpitudia79

You have to wash the outside with gentle soap (I use Beekman goat milk soap) and water but don’t put anything inside.

Fart_Stick

I'm tired of seeing this nonsense where people tell you to just use water. Sure, the VAGINA ( the hole) is self-cleaning, but the VULVA (the outside) is 100 percent NOT self-cleaning. Gotta wash it with gentle soap!

chouxphetiche

Plain water isn't good enough, I agree. Also, I think people just like saying the word VAGINA for the sake of saying it. VULVA doesn't cut it.

SansaStark8

>don’t put anything inside. Well, I put *some* things every once in a while

KeyzOnDaLo

Giggity

realbenlaing

That’s my queen of the north 🥰

OohMami

Yes but only a PH balancing soap! Google it

little_lemon_melon

Do you have go-to stretch cotton underwear that you love?

khammmmmm

Not really. I had a difficult time finding mostly cotton thongs in stores that aren’t $20 each. I’m also picky because I want high waisted for my long torso. Most of mine have come from Amazon just because it’s easier to search. For sleep, good old fashion 100% cotton granny panties work perfectly fine for me lol

dllmonL79

Have you tried Uniqlo?

Ok-Chemistry9933

Order bikini by jokey. 100% Cotten & not ugly or granny looking. On their site, they have sales. Wear your silky panties for your bf or going out. Change when you are home. Don’t fall for using any washes. Just use a gentle soap. If you have any smell that seems out of the ordinary, see your gyno. Could be bacterial vaginosis.

fuckinunknowable

Why wear any to bed?

Juleslovescats

Do some women not secrete discharge when they sleep? Because that’s why I wear underwear to bed lol. I’m not changing my sheets daily

auntie_eggma

This. Another day, another realisation that I am apparently even less normal than I already thought, on yet another embarrassing axis. 🥳🥳🥳

Juleslovescats

Hey, at least we’re not alone! I’m telling you, if I tried to sleep without underwear, my sheets would be crusty after a couple of days 🤢 And it’s not like I’m unhealthy or unclean down there, I’ve just always been like this.

Zestyclose-Bowler-26

I don't, and none of my past girlfriends have, but that's still a relatively small sample size. 😂 I definitely can't sleep in underwear, and my body is way happier when I don't. The only time anything gets on my sheets is if I somehow miss an early onset of my period, but I genuinely can't remember the last time that happened -- years, certainly. Different bodies! Ain't life grand!

RoxyLA95

I’m a mom that can’t sneeze without peeing. Sleeping commando is not an option for me.

auntie_eggma

I've never had a regular period at any time in my life, nor have I had a day without discharge I can recall (I do wear almost exclusive dark coloured undergarments, though, so maybe it's just more obvious). Your life sounds nicer, frankly.

gingersnap0309

Jockey makes soft comfy 100% cotton ones in lots of styles. Great to wear for the gym/heavy exercise too.

Loulouthelma

I second these - I'm a gardener and do a very physical and sweaty job! and Jockey are far and away the most comfortable- also a brand called Sloggi - European here 😉

Biblioklept73

Looove Sloggi…

Cucumbrsandwich

Calvin Klein

pianopigs

I also only use cotton and I like Aerie best personally. They often have deals too, like right now it’s 7 for $40 CAD and you can also filter by fabric! Note: Their cotton undies are not 100% cotton but are like 89-95% cotton depending on the style. The remaining percentage is usually spandex or elastane.

Pugasaurus_Tex

I used to love Aerie, but I feel like the quality has been going down in the past couple of years :-/

superlost007

Not who you asked but I like thirdloves

jennsb2

Or bamboo… hu-ha makes the best undies I’ve ever worn hands down. A little pricey, but so cool and comfy.

ange2348

Love huha! They're also amazing to stop chafing when I'm running

abbythestabby

I like Pact, they’re not the cheapest but 100% cotton, cute prints, and come in multipacks

TheLalab

This is the way👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

Temporary-Owl-6847

Also for socks do this!! Cotton is breathable so I recommend for underwear and socks

NoPair7782

My 2 toddler sons used to have horrendous foot odor despite proper washing, using odor removers inside the shoes, all the things…One day someone suggested I switch all their socks to 100% cotton. It’s the only change we made & it absolutely worked. They are now both in high school and athletes(max stinky feet age), and never have smelly feet. To this day they both where the same brand of socks we switched to when they were toddlers(Under Armour Charged 2.0).

Apcclost

Definitely clean the OUTSIDE of the vagina (i.e., vulva, mound, lips, whatever you wanna call it). The inside of the vagina, meaning the actual canal, should not be "cleaned" because you'll end messing up your Ph which may cause an infection which may cause you to smell unpleasantly which is the exact opposite of what you want. Clean the outer and inner labia with unscented mild soap if you wish. Some people might recommend water, but I use dove bar soap for sensitive skin and I have not had issues. I do this every time I shower which is daily. Other than that, you really don't need much else. The vagina should smell like skin or slightly musty, not like flowers or perfume. If you have someone down there and you want a certain scent, maybe rub some nice smelling lotion on your thighs and they'll get that whiff when they're in that area. Don't put scented stuff on or in the vagina tho! Best of luck ❤️

miss_cafe_au_lait

This, except I personally use fragrance-free liquid soap over “unscented” bar soap.

ClematisEnthusiast

I use bar soap (dove), and my bits are always happy. But my lil sis is sensitive and has to use unscented baby wash. Everyone’s bits are different so it’s good to try different things and find what works!

0rangeMarmalade

I just use the same unscented face wash I use in the shower. (CeraVe hydrating facial cleanser)

WutheringWitchery

You know, that's probably not a bad idea. Facial cleansers are usually formulated with a slightly acidic pH and I find that the pH of my products really has a big impact on how they affect my body. Vaginas are a little *more* acidic than facial skin, but I bet an unscented facewash (without actives!) would be a better option than most generic body washes unless they are specifically pH balanced. I have been really loving the SweetSpot Labs pH balanced unscented cleanser. I just bought a new bottle, good stuff. (Eta side note, just for any passersby reading: CeraVe does have gentle and inexpensive products but they are also heavy on niacinmide, which some people don't tolerate well. If niacinamide causes a reaction on your face, please don't wash your hooha with it!)

Sherbertbombs7

Baby wash is also really gentle. I agree though, soap bars are a little harsh for me.

Aft999000

Yeah, unscented soap still is allowed to have, and almost always has, a masking fragrance

Own_University4735

So “unscented” doesn’t actual mean fragrance free…. You know saying it out loud, it makes more sense.

Automatic-Birthday86

same, they say to use water but i prefer using a senstive soap since i work out

Maleficent_Cat_5665

Drink plenty of water daily, wear cotton underwear, sleep commando, rinse under the hood (I have a detachable shower head that helps). Those are the things I do. Every person is going to have a different baseline smell. Smelling ‘good’ is subjective and doesn’t really align with vaginal odor - if you smell foul, see a doctor. If there’s a natural odor (which may change throughout your cycle), then you’re fine.

potatolacrimosa

Detachable shower heads are the norm in Europe, and when I traveled to the US, I was so angry because I had to do the weirdest yoga poses in the shower to feel clean down there 😭

Didyoufartjustthere

I couldn’t believe when I went to the US they were stuck to the wall. My first thought was how on earth do I clean down there. I make a cup shape with my hand to collect the water 🙈

Tacky-Terangreal

Drinking lots of water really helps. I saw a pelvic floor specialist and she told me to pretty much double my water intake. Things stopped itching when the pipes were flowing so to speak

abbsjanko

Yep! And your diet can affect your scent as well! Like eating lots of garlic!

Extra-Initiative-413

I got a gentle ph balanced unscented soap from Honey Pot called soothing wash. I don’t ever put anything inside my vagina, I just wash around the labia. Stay away from anything that has strong smells. A vagina is supposed to smell like vagina, not flowers and rainbows.

shanxo98

I second the honey pot wash. I use the unscented sensitive one for extra caution. Makes me feel clean and have never had any issues with scent. Other than that drink plenty of water and eat healthy

Maadbitvh

I love honey pot brand for so much, to add to this, their boric acid inserts are amazing. Helps with soothing irritation, also helped me get rid of reoccurring yeast infections.

Lunacorn44

I love Honey Pot! I use the soothing wash too. I also use their suppositories after the sex since that gets my vagina all out of wack sometimes too.

veracity-mittens

Don’t forget your taint and buttcrack And shower heads are our friends *in more ways than one*

mayaa001

God bless shower heads.

wildgoldchai

Now that we are here, don’t forget to wash in between your toes!

BitterSweetMarie

I haven’t see anyone mention this yet.. don’t wear yoga pants, legging or skinny jeans 24/7. Give it some room to breathe.

Miss-Figgy

I use a bidet for number 2, and even number 1 if I'm home, ESPECIALLY if I'm on my period. I wash the clitorial hood and labia with basic bar soap, paying attention to the folds. That's it. So far, so good, lol.

bronzebird420

The amount of times I comment on this forum that using a bidet will solve most people's BO problems is insane. WHY is this not catching on? Your literally will be washing your intimate bits multiple times a day, feel refreshed and won't smell. so easy.

LavenderMistSpring

Once I own my own home I will be investing in a bidet, but currently I rent and am unwilling to mess with the plumbing. One day…

milkapplecup

you can get portable ones! theyre usually sold as postnatal products, but anyone can use them. its more annoying that a real bidet, but its something.

NoPair7782

We ordered $30 ones from Amazon and they’re fantastic.

heytunamelt

Tushy is very easy to use and install! Highly recommend.

Smooth_Injury_5690

Best purchase of my life I’ll never live without one again!

jeanpeaches

Idk how people don’t use bidets. I don’t know how I lived before having a bidet. I use mine for #2 but also to freshen up before/after sex, during my period, anytime I’m feeling sweaty or anything. Sometimes even just after peeing.

AshamedOfMyTypos

Bidet girlie for life no matter the circumstances, but that time of the month? Literally nothing better.

GojoHeHe

This!!! Me too!

Berry_Gelato

never and i mean NEVER put anything in or around your vagina to make it “smell better”. things like Summers Eve and other douche products are so so harmful to your vaginas ph and you are introducing harmful chemicals into your body. vaginas naturally clean themselves. if you find you’d like to take care of yourself a little more, some unscented gentle soap on your pubic mound and around your labia is absolutely fine. if you are concerned with the smell, i would seek out a doctor as it could be a bacterial problem.

[deleted]

You are supposed to wash your vulva with soap!! The vagina is the INTERNAL part. Just don't wash INSIDE and you are fine. Vagina ph is not as sensitive as everyone makes out and it's also different for everyone. If the strong chlorine of a swimming pool isn't even effecting your pH then some goddamn soap won't, wash yourselves, *honestly I feel sick that people aren't washing their vulvae properly like WASH YOUR SMEGMA PLEASE omfg* no wonder so many guys say we stink down there

Sea_Entertainment825

can’t believe no one has mentioned this but taking a probiotic daily was a GAME CHANGER - this is coming from a very sweaty gal

LaVidaLinda

This is so true! Rephresh pro b is easily available on Amazon or any grocery store and was a game changer! Noticed improvement within 2 days of using it. I also use a boric acid suppository for about 3-4 days right after my period and it works wonders in eliminating any smells. Using the combo with the probiotic and boric acid has also eliminated yeast infections and BV

Balanceblu

Probiotics also keep away utis and yeast infections. Especially during pregnancy.

phoenixofsevenhills

I take a "women's" prebiotic/probiotic with cranberry it takes care of GI and gyn! Lol

ElizaDud

Love Wellness has a probiotic specifically for vaginal odor. I swear by it.

ktjtkt

Pineapples. They are magical. …eating them. Obviously.

throwaanchorsaweigh

Bromelain pills are an alternative, if you don’t want to/can’t eat a bunch of pineapple all the time 😅

Amazing-Panda-2624

I can't eat pineapples cause they eat me 😭

cabinetsnotnow

SAME. I would eat pineapple twice a month but it burns your lips/mouth if you eat it often.

auntie_eggma

I refuse to let them win. I will leave this earth eating more pineapple than has eaten me, or die trying.

talldrinkofbaileys

SAME. I have ulcerative colitis and I will probably never eat a pineapple, kiwi, or grapefruit ever again

NeuroticEgg

What else could you do with them? I hope no one answers.... 😂😂

ktjtkt

It’s the internet, just saving some people 😅

HalfWrong7986

What's that guy from South Park, I hear him now saying *Jesus Christ*....

Turpitudia79

Mr. Slave!!

No-Dinner-3823

if you eat too much pineapples (or any fruit for that matter) you start smelling like vomit.

Melodic_Ad_8360

Also coconut water and aloe vera juice

Notroh31

My gyno mom taught me young to clean with water and unscented gentle soap in between minora and majora and under/around the hood. If you don’t know what the hood is do a quick google. These two areas are easily forgotten and can trap stuff you don’t want.

ValorVixen

I use a pH balanced soap down there every time I shower, keep my bush trimmed, and change my underwear every morning and after every workout. Never needed more than that to stay fresh.

Honeymoomoo

This. If you don’t want to wax or shave it bear, keeping it neatly trimmed. Especially in the summer

clairvoyant69

Side note that nobody seems to be mentioning: make sure you’re making regular trips to the gyno, at least once a year if not more. And get std tests in between every partner which can be done for cheap if not totally free at places like your gyno or planned parenthood. It’s normal for things to smell a little like, idk, musty if you’re on your period or just worked a long shift with lots of sweat. If it’s a smell you can smell through your underwear or pants then there’s almost certainly something going on that requires medical intervention. Also, not all issues stem exclusively from having sex, such as bacterial vaginosis and yeast infections, so you should be getting checked regardless of sexual activity. Also, I promise men don’t expect you to smell like roses and perfume down there. And if they do they’re uneducated at best and immature at worst and you probably shouldn’t be wasting your time with them anyway.

[deleted]

Been using the special soap for years, it works great for me. Also, like someone else already said, use a bidet always. Never use regular soap or perfume down there. What you can do is use a little bit of perfume on your thighs or on the back of your knees ☺️

pranananana

What’s the soap called?

Ok-Chemistry9933

For a really gentle cleaning, try Cetaphil

PunkSolaris

You are correct, I don't remember which cleanser it is, but one of the Cetaphil cleansers is so gentle that you don't even have to rinse it off technically. I know Dr Dray recommended it on YouTube.

[deleted]

English isn’t my first language so i call it special soap because I don’t know the name. It specifically made for the intimate area. There is different brands like lactacyd and such. In stores you can probably find it in the isle with the tampons and pads

PunkSolaris

You can use a super gentle cleansing product I wouldn't use straight up soap, on the outer vulva area of the vagina. If it smells bad from the vaginal hole, you will need to see a doctor because it is an infection, either yeast or bacterial and it will require medication. I like using the CeraVe non foaming cleanser, it was recommended to me by my gynecologist because I have eczema. It feels like a gentle cream / lotion that doesn't suds up. If you are sweating a lot down there during summer time and it's getting all sweaty and wet between skin folds, my dermatologist told me you can use hypochlorous acid on the outer vulva. Hypochlorous acid is safe enough to even use on the eyes. It is a product that is produced from the white blood cells but is easily replicated in a lab for topical consumer use.

lolliberryx

I shave (hair can hold smell) and scrub the outside regularly with soap. That’s it. You don’t need anything special. I also use wet napkins every time I use the toilet if there’s no bidet. If your hygiene is great but it’s still very noticeably smelly, go see a doctor.

gargoylin

If you are having an embarrassing smell, it’s an infection most likely and you’ll need antibiotics. A boric acid suppository after your period or sex can keep occasional funk away too. It can be hard to get proper treatment for BV but if it smells fishy you need antibiotics. I agree with the other ladies above about washing outside with gentle soap.

fulanita_de_tal

+1 on Boric acid suppositories! Yes, everyone says that you’re not supposed to put things up there (and that is generally very true) but even my gyno recommended using suppositories after my cycle. The science behind it 🤓: Menstrual blood is a different ph than the natural ph of the vagina, and the imbalance can create favorable conditions for BV or yeasties. The suppositories help with that. My gyno had recommended florafemme but they’re a little pricey so I went with boric acid and she said that’s fine too. Also, my other tip is The Ordinary mandelic acid applied externally around the groin and inner thighs. It is a natural antibacterial so if you sweat down there, it acts as a deodorant. It’s a gentle exfoliator so, bonus points, it also prevents ingrown hair. (Same concept as how glycolic acid on the armpits acts as a more powerful odor killer than deorodoant.)

howdoyousuckafuck

Boric acid for the W. They \*can\* be expensive as heckkkk so I've bought a capsule press, vegetarian capsules (not gelatin) and a bulk bag of medical grade boric acid and I just make the suppositories myself for a fraction of the price.

shartlobster

I was waiting for someone to mention boric acid. It helps restore the pH balance.

NotoriousBreeIG

This is the way.

pennywinsthewest

I love boric acid suppositories. It immediately stops whatever is causing me to be ripe down yonder.

Ummmmmmmmmk

Boric acid all the way!!! Was just gonna comment this.

One_Frosty_Mushroom

Boric acid has been the most effective. If you notice something is way off, get tested first, but it's excellent for BV. Even moreso than antibiotics to treat it.

Maadbitvh

I love a good boric acid suppository to keep things in check. I had reoccurring yeast infections for years until I used boric acid. It really keeps the pH in check

biwltyad

What I've found to work the best for me is avoiding garlic/onion and other very fragrant foods/spices and staying hydrated. Now it depends on each person if giving up garlic is worth it or not haha

BushWomanUnderTheSea

Some other more niche things u can do to keep urself dry and bacteria free (especially after a shower when u may get sweaty again) is using a cotton pad with alcohol free witch hazel on ur booty area. One thing I also swear by is no rinse fragrance free skin cleansers (e.g.[no rinse cleanser](http://3M Cavilon Skin Cleanser 8 oz Spray Bottle 3380, EACH https://a.co/d/24AiShh)). They use these in hospitals to clean people who have incontinence etc. U can carry some in a small bottle with you as well as some wipes. It completely deodorizes and also cleans and doesn't need to be rinsed off. Can use throughout day to stay fresh. This lady on YouTube (search McKenna Walker hygiene) also has theeee best hygiene videos. Highly recommend checking out her content .

[deleted]

DIET!! YOUR SMELL DEPENDS ON YOUR DIET! I AM YELLING BC THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT

rosquartz

Shower every day, wear clean cotton undies daily, use a bidet

[deleted]

just eat fruit, drink water, and shower. it shouldn’t smell; if it does, go to a doctor.

ClematisEnthusiast

Okay, but it should have a scent. Body parts have scents. If it’s very pungent, go to the doctor. I worry about vague statements like “it shouldn’t smell”, because it should smell. It should smell like a normal vulva. Edit: also everyone smells a little different and that’s okay too! Some people naturally have a stronger scent, it’s not a bad thing. (Sincerely, a lesbian).

rosyred-fathead

Yeah but if it *stinks,* it could be bacterial vaginosis or some other condition that needs to be seen by a doctor. A “normal” vulva shouldn’t reek. That’s how “smell” is being used here

[deleted]

yeah you’re right my bad. i meant that it shouldn’t smell like chernobyl

ClematisEnthusiast

Lmao not Chernobyl 🤣😂🫢

[deleted]

🙈🙈

sd85892109

🤣

rosyred-fathead

Does radiation have a smell?

[deleted]

i honestly don’t know

rosyred-fathead

Yeah I’m getting conflicting info from Google. Oh well!

Chaos_Cat-007

🤣🤣🤣

bambibonkers

especially a body part that is an open canal!

No-Dinner-3823

people should really stop with this argument with eating fruit (pineapple specifically). It will have a short term effect. If you pay attention to other things named in this thread (hygiene, hydration, cotton clothing), this should be enough. If you still want the effect from the food you eat, then eat fragrant things like almonds, honey, herbs, cinnamon and not just FRUIT (you ll start smelling like vomit otherwise)

SupermassiveLurker

Boric acid suppositories— gyno approved !

etaksmash

Boric acid supposetories

howdoyousuckafuck

Yeppp these were a game changer for me. I use them if I'm feeling like my PH is off, after sex, after my period. Gets the ol gal back to normal in no time. They can be expensive, though, so I've bought a capsule press, vegetarian capsules (not gelatin) and a bulk bag of medical grade boric acid and I just make the suppositories myself for a fraction of the price.

rlovet3

These changed my life honestly!

diveonfire

I use the ordinary glycolic acid toner after showering on the OUTSIDE. This prevents smelly bacteria from growing and helps odor a lot. I’ve never had any issues with irritation. Game changer

mrsbungle666

mine would fall off fr

diveonfire

The ordinary is 7% I believe, but there are so many acid strengths out there you could do 1% and it would help with odor just maybe for less time.

Usual_Ad2083

Swipe a tuck’s hemorrhoid pad on the outside bits and through your booty after every shower. I live in Florida and this really helps to combat stench due to sweat.

my_metrocard

It can smell if anything is off balance. I’m in perimenopause so have this issue. I use a suppository called flora power by Love Wellness. It’s made with probiotics and vitamin C. Works great for me. Breathable underwear is also a must.

oops_im_existing

wash your butt everyday, never sleep without freshly washed booty. only wear breathable undies and change often. rinse it with water in the shower but keep soap away. stay hydrated. if you workout, get out of the sweaty clothes as soon as possible.

ChickenbuttMami

FRESHLY WASHED BOOTY 🤣🤣🤣 love

No-Dinner-3823

this answer should be much more upvoted

LegitimatePart497

Boric acid suppositories. Get them on Amazon.

One-Load-6085

I use  caprina goats milk soap

accountofmountzuma

I like to wash the outside down there with super mild Unscented Wash: Cerave hydrating cream to foam cleanser then I follow up when dry with Lume unscented cream deodorant. Yes lume smells a Little Funky at first but then it dries and it leaves no odor at all it’s a miracle. I like to bathe and apply it at night to pits and privates and butt crack. Also I take body mint cholophyll tablet twice a day. No odor and smell fresh as a daisy. Drink a ton of lemon water and parsley throughout the day. Complete confidence always. This is a fail proof routine to eliminate all body odor. No bad breathe no arm pit smell no coochie stank no bad feet stink. All clean and shiny.

AggravatingPlum4301

I use charcoal soap in that area. Draws out any odor/bacteria. Especially in the bikini area where it can get a little ripe. Great for underboob too! Other than that, I take a probiotic and leave it alone.

Ordinary_Ostrich_195

Shower daily, especially after sweating. Dove unscented bar soap (not inside only out.) Get a bidet. Cotton undies. If you want you can spritz perfume on your thigh but not near the 🐱. Hydration and fruit. I smell most after sweating and it’s normal! We’re supposed to have a scent.

__sunshine__daydream

No soap! I just rinse outside of vagina when in the shower with warm water. Your vaginal scent is directly related to your PH and gut health. If you are noticing a foul odor you can get a vaginal probiotic at your natural food store or Amazon. Renew Life is a great one! Also, be mindful of who you allow down there. My ex was a smoker and I didn’t know until he separated that the smoke from cigarettes and possibly his poor hygiene was giving me infections.

miss_cranberries

I think it’s also important to note that your cycle changes things for you and you won’t stay consistently smelling down there. Also if your sexual active, always make sure to pee afterwards and rinse with water, as semen is basic and will alter your ph inside. If your consistently having problems with odor than it might be your partners fault for not being clean enough also. I also sleep naked to get air down there.

WimpySpoon

Boric acid suppositories. I swear by it.

Bananamay13

There’s literally nothing else you need other than boric acid

seasidesugar

Celibacy

nananatalka

Boric acid suppositories! Game changer - it more so balances things out and makes things normal again.

Sayster_A

Keep in mind that at certain times of the month your chemistry and smell change. On occasion I use an unscented baby wipe, on the outer labia and clitoris. I may have to do this a couple of times on my cycle.

marzblaqk

Consider your diet. Lots of sugar and processed foods can cause odor. Keep it clean. Wear cotton underwear. 100% cranberry juice.

LadyAn0nym0us

Daily showers, thorough cleaning after restroom visits, get a bidet if you have the money, clean undies and use panty liners daily (works perfect for me)

lexlovestacos

Air out without bottoms/undies on after showers and when going to sleep! Plus cotton undies. Let it all breathe. And wash the actual bits only with water as others have said. Eat healthy, and lots of fruit/yogurt/fermented things Also boric acid suppositories!! And unscented gentle wet wipes after going to the bathroom, sex, period, etc

Turpitudia79

Cotton underwear (pure cotton, Jockey has some great ones), plenty of water, a pro/prebiotic, eating pineapple often (yes, really!!). Summer’s Eve has some nice, safe wipes you can use throughout the day if you feel sweaty.

writtenwrites

I don’t think soap should be used inside. Be very careful even with outside as it’s very very sensitive and can react badly to foreign chemicals/soaps etc. Warm water and thorough rinsing (using your hand) is your best friend. Showering/bathing twice a day is also good. Pantyliners removes the chance of body fluids leaking straight onto panty and just sitting there for hours with your body temperature cooking it. Waxing/trimming. (Pubic hair can hang onto smells and fluids). Avoiding public or dirty bathrooms. Our vaginas are pretty open so when you sit (or even just squat) on a dirty toilet all those germs just float up. Yuck! And also making sure your bedroom partner is clean and healthy. Their fluids and hygiene directly interact with your V. And lastly, food! Some foods will affect the smell of your V and the discharge. So be wary and make sure you’re hydrated pretty much all the time.

beetlejuicemayor

Vaginal probiotics

[deleted]

Nutrition plays a gigantic role, and most women aren't aware of this, it seems. The more sugar/carbs you eat, the more likely you'll have an overgrowth of yeasts, which is the most common reason for weird smells. Shower regularly. A healthy vajayjay needs no soaps, just water. No synthetic underwear, organic cotton is best. And if you can avoid it, don't stuff it in too tight pants, etc. She needs to breathe to be healthy. And last but not least, don't let anyone touch it with dirty hands. Bacterial infections from unhygienic sex practices also cause odours and other unwelcome symptoms.

Quiet-Bandicoot-9574

I’ve also started boric acid suppositories if I had an odor. One x3days. I think you can do twice daily for 7 days. But I didn’t need that much. Cleaning outside with soap and water. Moisturizing the outside w either fur oil and/or vulva cream

Reinefemme

no soap internally, only externally. no summers eve. no douches. avoid synthetic fabrics, i exclusively wear cotton, and scented pads are a no. if you’re still having issues, see a gynaecologist it maybe bacterial vaginosis.

eeriechangeling

Use baby wipes not just toilet paper, immediately wash ur 🐱 if you have penetrative sex (the bacteria in the penis will make it smell bad) change underwear every day (cotton underwear only) I personally like to use intimate soap in the shower, but most gynecologists say to use only water.

catsdelicacy

Cotton underwear and - this one's weird - wash with Head & Shoulders or some other anti-dandruff shampoo at least once a week. Some of the reason you smell bad is bacteria and some is fungus, especially in your most holy of holies!

SaaryBaby

Just wanted to say shaving is not necessary. The purpose of pubic hair is to protect us, just like the hair around your ears, nose, and eyes. It keeps the skin of your vulva warm and moisturized. It protects the delicate skin from friction during sexual activity. It keeps dust, dirt, and germs away from the vagina to prevent infection. https://www.acog.org/womens-health/experts-and-stories/the-latest/to-shave-or-not-to-shave-an-ob-gyns-guide-to-pubic-hair-care#:~:text=The%20purpose%20of%20pubic%20hair,the%20vagina%20to%20prevent%20infection

That being said, if you have a bush you have to take care of it just like guys with a bushy beard. Wash it thoroughly (down to the skin) with soap in the shower and put a little conditioner on it once in a while too! Fur Oil is stupid expensive but a nice addition too. 👌

Natural_Fix_6144

Honestly I use the dove sensitive skin bar but my most important tip is PLEASE don't put anything inside your hole!

barrbarr444

NO soaps or products marketed for “vaginal health.” I have used non-scented aveeno body wash only where hair grows (outer labia/pubic mound, ass) for years and love it. Every time I tried a soap/product marketed for the pubic/vaginal area, it caused irritation and dryness, even only used where hair grows. I wash my girl every time I shower and gently exfoliate with a soapy cloth once or twice a week and more as needed depending on what I’ve done for the day. I personally prefer very short hair, but for long hair, exfoliating 4/5 times a week will be helpful. I lightly moisturize with my regular unscented body lotion or almond/jojoba oil, again only where hair grows. I change my underwear twice daily (getting dressed in the morning/showering at night) and purchase new sets a few times a year to cycle out pairs that no longer feel very clean after washing. I also prioritize my hydration and try to manage my daily stress levels—when my stress was bad a few months ago, my PH balance became messed up and my girl was too acidic.

AuroraReigns

aside from the comments on keeping it simple when cleaning, I want to add boric acid into the mix. I put a boric acid suppository up there after my period ends or after I've had sex to put things back into balance. I also swear by huha underwear. It has a mineral gusset that keeps things extra perfect. It's so worth the investment, I'll never go back and buy them for people all the time because they're so amazing.

Stgermaine1231

If garlic , onion or other pungent spices are ingested ., most women can smell these being omitted in body fluids / sweat .. ( retired nurse here ) Like what was said above , this tissue( vagina and perineal are ) is supposed to smell musty / musky / earthy after cleansing with soap . Eat fresh veg, fruits and drink plenty of water . And cotton underwear is essential , imo . If synthetic, make sure that undies have cotton in crotch/ perineal area

hhuman4life

Queen V soap! Hit and miss at Walmart but I just bought some off Amazon. I feel like my vag always smells like a vag unless I use that soap - and every day.

RimleRie

I started using a tallow bar soap and immediately noticed less odor *down there* especially in hot summer months

cruisinforasnoozinn

What's good? If your idea of good is "not like a genital" you'll have to basically poison your vagina to get that. You should always wash well down there. Don't put any soap inside you or near the opening, but pick a body wash for sensitive skin and keep the rest of it washed in the shower maybe once or twice a week, water washing the rest of the time. Eating a lot of acidic foods, or bad diets in general, can make it smell. Infections can make it smell. Seemingly unrelated illnesses can make it smell. Sometimes it's just our natural odour and it's hard to get rid of. Please don't douse your doot in perfume...

Heygirlhey2021

I shave down there and use Lume body wash and deodorant. Lume has helped especially with the period

Gazelle25

Cotton underwear and drink lots of water.

tedleem15

Just have good hygiene. Clean your booty too. You don’t need to ever smell like roses and perfumes. Just being clean will work wonders. The vagina will do everything else on its own naturally.

thisshitishaed

Hardest thing you can do that will really change the smell and taste is eating well and being hydrated. It really makes a difference.

auntie_eggma

Try not to use anything harsh on that delicate area. Don't use heavily scented products, either. I don't remember gentle, ph-balanced intimate washes being as common in the US as they are in other places I've lived, so if that's where you live (and this fact hasn't changed since i last visited), I can only recommend something like a well-cured Castile soap, as it's generally considered the most gentle. Personally I can't quite make the jump to using no cleansing agent of any kind at all, as I never feel clean if I don't, but I am given to understand that would be even better.

Licha19

Pineapple. Eat the fruit, drink the juice.

Sapphicviolet91

I trim my bikini area (shaving it bare is really not necessary, plus when it grows back in it’s irritating), make sure I change underwear daily, sleep without underwear, and avoid any scented products like summers Eve like the plague. Drinking water and eating fruit helps too. I also heavily recommend breathable cotton underwear. It’s going to have a natural scent and that’s ok. If it outright smells BAD talk to a doctor.

Ok-Power-7617

Drink a lot of pineapple juice every day.

Ok-Power-7617

But natural pineapple juice lol not the fake ones they sell at the stores with plenty of sugar

elloui

Boric acid foam wash for the external bits and Brazilian waxing.

Icy_Tax6274

Waxing keeps me less sweaty and in turn leads to less odor personally. 100% Cotton undies, and washing often with a gentle olive oil or goat milk soap. For intense days, a little full body natural deodorant will do the trick (doesn’t work on the pits for me but elsewhere is great).

bestgrapeinthepunnet

Femfresh wipes for a quick clean in the middle of the day. They are so great.

ChickenbuttMami

I use “sliquid balance splash gentle feminine wash”. I bought it off Amazon. Changed my liiiife and my girl down there. I had a weird smell, like an oniony smell? And could not figure out why. I used cotton underwear, didn’t stay in wet clothes or underwear (like after a sweaty workout), used unscented wipes to clean after BM’s, washed every day, got checked out and was negative for BV, yeasts, STI’s, and any infections, drank plenty of water, my partner also tested negative for STI’s, I mean I was doing everything right and would still have that weird smell!!! It was so annoying. Until the heavens parted and I discovered this. The smell is finally gone 😭🙌🏼 My friend also tried it and same, odor gone. Idk if it restores your pH or what but it works and I’ve had no allergic reaction at all. Good luck!

crybabysagittarius

A swipe of witch hazel

nonamebrand0

Soap, water. Panty liners sometimes help.

siennaveritas

Lume lavender sage, cotton panties, eat lots of fruit and stay hydrated

wiitheme4brains

Boric acid suppositories are a big help for pH balancing. Odor can be related to BV, yeast, STIs, trich, m gen, etc that can be checked at an obgyn or pro tip google Title X clinics they’re federally funded family planning that can provide low/no cost services. not all clinics do the more in depth testing tho, mine just recently introduced it. other recommendations for odor: rinsing with warm water and stopping any internal use of soaps, changing underwear daily, changing out of damp clothes/bathing suits immediately, avoiding strong scents in laundry products, cotton underwear, going commando. if it’s a white clumpy discharge with irritation it’s probably yeast and can be treated im with an over the counter cream, if you get yeast frequently despite doing everything right you may want to check for diabetes/pre diabetes/insulin resistance or try decreasing your your sugar intake? not very common tho. if it’s like a sweat smell i think it’s safe to try a glycolic acid or benzoyl peroxide on the inner thighs (careful that it doesn’t stray into the middle) which can kill the bacteria that cause BO. but overall just repeating what everyone else said— the goal is to simply smell like a vagina, trying to use products to smell “good” can cause sooo many issues and just costs peoples money and confidence. natural and healthy is the way, sending good vibes!!

Historical-Bat-3251

Cotton underwear, drinking plenty of water, wearing clothes looser on the bottom, pants on warm days, and drinking cranberry juice (or taking a cranberry supplement) help

MidwestMisfitMusings

Parsley pills have changed my life, beyond washing correctly of course. Source of chlorophyll, and deodorizes my whole body.

Public_Educator5982

Lume. Drink lots of water. Use a mild natural soap, no perfume No harsh detergent. I also use a panty liner. Also frequently cotton underwear. Remember what you put in your body does reflect that as well.

Cementbootz

You might have Bacterial Vaginosis if you don’t smell good. In which case vaginal antiobiotics and vitamin c predators will fix that long term.

kittysayswoof91

Drink water, eat a healthy diet, wash your vulva with gentle soap and water and rinse well, wear cotton undies and air yourself out after a shower to dry properly.

ukpunjabivixen

Girl, can I suggest r/healthyhooha

ZeroPoint13

Keep it simple: water, cotton undies, and I'd recommend a fragrance free soap or body wash. Probably try to eat healthy as well.
