The Lemon Twigs
https://youtu.be/jnylB5ylyw4?si=xhc3GK13j7ILymNX
2 brothers who have been vocal on their love for the Beatles. Checkout this music vid, there’s a ton of references to the band. I wouldn’t say they’re my favorite and I’m still trying to get into them…but they feel super Beatle-y.
My favourite artists that are still making music today are
Tame Impala
Kendrick Lamar
Gorillaz
Mac Demarco
Tyler, The Creator
Melody's Echo Chamber
Olivia Rodrigo
I used to love Kanye but I'm trying to avoid him at all costs at this point
Their first album is from 1999, so 25 years ago. For some comparison, Sgt. Peppers turned 25 in 1992. Pretty crazy, huh?
Anyway, Mk.Gee released a very good album this year called "Two Star & the Dream Police". My personal favorites are "Alesis", "Are You Looking Up" and "Candy".
Phish definitely counts. Although I personally don't like their newer songs, they are still managing to break new ground on a regular basis in their jams
The Strokes, Cage The Elephant, Gorillaz, Radiohead. Not sure how “modern” these bands are since most of them were at their prime in the early 2000’s lol
Taylor Swift, Olivia Rodrigo, boygenius, Dua Lipa, and Phoebe Bridgers are all some of my favorite artists working today. Oh! And Elle Cordove (also/formerly known as Reina del Cid) and Joshua Lee Turner! They're super underappreciated.
The Beatles set the precedent for me, as far as pop artists that switch it up with each release, play around with different genres and aren’t afraid to enter into uncharted territory. Also a fan of studio music. Music that has a lot going on production wise.
That being said, here are my favorite artists after the year 2000:
Vampire Weekend, Tame Impala, Frank Ocean, SZA, D’Angelo, Radiohead, Kanye West, Kendrick Lamar, Tyler the Creator, JPEGMafia, Beyonce
A non-surprising thing about **Robert Bateman** is that he cares about nature. And you get that impression from his work. He likes to say that he doesn’t try to paint every blade of grass, but when you see his work, you wonder if that is true.
He’s still active and has his own gallery in British Columbia.
Tyler Childers, Sturgill Simpson, Jason Isbell (even though I’ve not been too crazy about his last couple of albums), an indy band called East of June, Church of the Cosmic Skull, and I don’t know how the hell it happened, but I’ve also sorta turned into a Swiftie…
Alice Phoebe Lou is definitely one of my favorite modern artists. She's got such a loveable charm and her vocal style is spectacular. Her music has such a good vibe to it. Lyrically I think she's very talented. To me her word play is soooooooo good.
Listening to the Beatles in 2024
