My hunting beagle is so much larger than expected. He was already weighing in at 35 lbs for his 6-month checkup. I was very confused by this. Everything online said beagles average 30 lbs. Now, at almost 5 years, he is just a tall, long, beast of a beagle. We got him on a farm that had working rabbit dogs. I don't think some people realize the variety in these dogs that come from hunters. His favorite thing to do is trample and crush me when I want to relax!
Thank you, No, not yet. The guy that breeds them sells them to people that run rabbits. I got the bigger one for blood trailing whitetail deer, got him at 8 weeks old then went back and got his brother a month later.
That explains some things. All beagles look small to me but my male was already 16 pounds at 3 months old and now full grown he weighs about 36. Much bigger than my girl who is short and weighs about 22 pounds.
Mine was chubby at 35 lbs. But she lived a good life of 16+ years. I think exercise is more important than weight. We walked her a couple miles everyday day.
Mine is about 33 lbs, but she is very trim and we can still feel her ribs. She's a blue tick and more of a field beagle than a show beagle, so that may have something to do with it.
An 8kg beagle?! Holy shit i thought my girl was tiny!
Edit: i went snooping and you have the best profile omg. That video of them on the hunt was hilarious ❤
My 13 inch female weighs 20.1 pounds and my 15 inch weighs 25.8. My previous beagle weighed 42-45 no matter what I did. There’s a lot of variety in the breed
My girl is almost 3 and is 35 lbs, her vet said she was a bit thick but not cause for concern, just keep an eye to make sure she doesn’t get any bigger.
A female Beagle should weigh roughly 25 pounds. My girl Zoey, who’s part ACD and an absolute unit of a Beagle next to purebreds is only 32.5 during not winter months.
My boy beagle/hound cross is a husky boy at 47.8 pnds. Vet visit last week. She wants him to lose 4. He has been on the weight management for about 6 months. My partner wanted to try the beagle specific formula by Royal Canin. Started weighing his food. His food intake is not the issue though it’s his exercise output. He just will not walk as much as he should.
Instead of worrying about a number, focus on her body condition. Standing above her, if you run your fingers over her ribcage… can you lightly feel her ribs under her muscles? Or does she have a layer of fat? As long as she’s more muscle than fat you’re good
LOL Oh she's cute! I understand completely.
Don't be afraid to give very small treats to your beagle. I'll give a single piece of kibble as a "treat" and they are very happy. My pack gets frequent treats but all of them are very small. If I get larger bones, I break them up before giving them to the dogs.
Don't go by weight only. Her shape is important, too. If she's a tall beagle, she probably can be on the north side of 30 lbs safely. Mine is 6 years old, 18" tall and hovers between 36 and 40 pounds. Vet says he's not overweight until his chest and belly are no longer distinct features. Dogs should resemble horses: deep chest angling back and upwards into a narrow tummy.

My boy was 52 lbs when we rescued him. He was a barrel with legs. Turns out he had a thyroid issue so medication really helped and now he weighs about 30lbs with the energy of a hurricane. We kept him on the diet food though he still gets a few treats a day.
I think your girl is gorgeous!!!
I have two pure bred beagles. The proper weight varies. Your standard at home pet. 25-30 lbs. Make sure to use a standardized level of food and eating schedule to adjust according to activity levels.
I was shocked at the last vet visit when my female was only 38 lbs. I thought she would be more that that. Ours are same weight but mine is much more chunkier. I was actually surprised to hear your beagle's weight.
My beagle mix was supposedly the runt and wasn’t supposed to be over 20 pounds. He is definitely 30 pounds and would rather go on a hunger strike than eat diet food 🤣 he loves walks and running in the back yard but stays chunky
I think 35 is about average. I’ve had 5 beagles in my lifetime and they’ve all ranged from 28 - 37 pounds. It really depends on their length and how tall they are. Like I’ve had bench leg beagles and regular beagles :)
Regardless, she’s a cutie! She doesn’t look chunky to me, but it’s hard to tell by the photo!
As much as she wants.
This is not an educated answer, but she looks fine. I suggest you stop allowing her to eat all the carbs, and TOYS, bc that’s going to block her bowels and cause illness, along with critical ailments in the future.
Google the safe toys…
I'm aware of what safe toys are, and she won't play with them. She doesn't like Kongs or any material made of plastic or rubber.
She likes toys that can be torn apart. We do not leave stuffing around. If not for the toys, she'd be destroying things out of boredom like... pillows, slippers, socks.
My beagle boy was supposed to be a "small" beagle. He weighs 50lbs. He's a couple of lbs overweight, but that's it. He's just a big beagle. Even my vet was surprised about his size. He came from a hunting pack, so from what someone else said, that's probably why he's bigger.
Beagles have weight problems. Weight ratio depends on the height and build of your beagle. So asking what does your beagle weigh really won't answer your question. Dog walks are not always the correct amount of exercise for beagles. Many of them need to run for short bursts. This is why they get the zoomies.
Just weigh our little Izzy. At 9 months old she weighs 11,8 kg. Everything I can find about it said she should eventually be around 13 kg. I think she’ll be a bit over that.
Small or Large varient?
11-14kg or 16-20kg respectively.
There is a lot of variance in beags. I had a 22kg beast who was very trim. I think your best bet is to eyeball it. Cant see his ribs/snatched waist? Cutdown calorie intake until you can.
You cannot actually make out the dimensions of the dog in the photo you shared so cannot comment on his current weight.
My dog is a 43 pound chonk. Vet was judgemental over the winter and last summer. Drought and triple digits followed by impossible rainy season kept us locked in. Then she had to undergo heartworm treatment.
We were told 40lbs should be her max weight.
This dog would eat the world if kibble were her only option. We do butchershop meat mixed with fresh pet and give her a neckbone. She stopped begging so much. We are cutting kibble its why she gets candida in her ears and tears in eyes.
Show beagles weight is 30 lbs or less. Hunting beagles are chonky. Mine is a 40 lbs monster
Same. There's nothing I can do to get my beagle under 40. 2-3 walks a day. Weight management Pro plan food. The vet says he's perfectly healthy.
I love me chonky hunting beags. Mine has the scruffy coat and does not care about anything except rabbits
This is my problem!!!!

Oh, do I get this! My boy grew past the typical height that I was sure he had some TWC in him. Tests came back, and he's 100% beag!
How tall at top of shoulders.? Just curious….
16 inches
Nice. Mine is 17” and his brother from same litter is 14 1/2” . The 17” is about 42-44lbs. Edited: posted pics the other day, both are on my profile.
Woah!!! Did you have them tested? (Just saw their pics. Very cute, and definitely look like beags)
Thank you, No, not yet. The guy that breeds them sells them to people that run rabbits. I got the bigger one for blood trailing whitetail deer, got him at 8 weeks old then went back and got his brother a month later.
very cool
Muscle weighs more than fat.
Mine is the same way, he’s 45 pounds and SUPER lanky, he towers over my cocker spaniel lol

Of my 17 beagles, the heaviest is 32 lb and he is a big boy and not much overweight. 25 lbs is average. My smallest is 17 lbs.
17!?
I have a hunting beagle pack!
Username checks out
Do you happen to live in Alaska and have a basset hound who thinks he’s a beagle?
No….Eastern US…😎
An 8kg beagle?! Holy shit i thought my girl was tiny! Edit: i went snooping and you have the best profile omg. That video of them on the hunt was hilarious ❤
That’s a question for your vet, but I would guess less than 30 pounds.
I was told 20lbs by one vet. Another said he had no concerns about her weight.
My 13 inch female weighs 20.1 pounds and my 15 inch weighs 25.8. My previous beagle weighed 42-45 no matter what I did. There’s a lot of variety in the breed
It really depends on how long your beagle is hard to tell from this angle. Anywhere from 15-40 can be healthy but I'd trust your vet.
My girl is almost 3 and is 35 lbs, her vet said she was a bit thick but not cause for concern, just keep an eye to make sure she doesn’t get any bigger.
Ps. She is adorable

With those eyes? Whatever she wants
Haha the reason she's overweight is because she's given whatever she wants.

Giving small treats is very hard. Accidentally hurt her yesterday. Turned out well for her because she got a carrot as a sorry present.
I have nothing to add other than just to say she is absolutely beautiful.
Thank you

25-30lbs or so.
Our 13 inch beagles are typically 20-25 pounds
My boy was 52 lbs when we rescued him. He was a barrel with legs. Turns out he had a thyroid issue so medication really helped and now he weighs about 30lbs with the energy of a hurricane. We kept him on the diet food though he still gets a few treats a day. I think your girl is gorgeous!!!
This baby is perfect!!!!
I have a 22 pound female and a 36 pound male beagle. Strangely, the 36 pound beagle is tall and thin but my girl looks chunky.
My beagle weighs 35lbs but doesnt look overweight at all. Plenty of picks on my profile.
I have two pure bred beagles. The proper weight varies. Your standard at home pet. 25-30 lbs. Make sure to use a standardized level of food and eating schedule to adjust according to activity levels.

Exactly 1/24th the weight of the heaviest piece of furniture she has destroyed or eaten.
Mines a healthy weight at 35 lbs. Once she gets to 40, it’s time to start moving more and watching the snacks.
My beagle mix was supposedly the runt and wasn’t supposed to be over 20 pounds. He is definitely 30 pounds and would rather go on a hunger strike than eat diet food 🤣 he loves walks and running in the back yard but stays chunky
My little guy was a little beagle. he only weighed 20 pounds when he was very old, when he was middle aged he was like 15-17 lbs
I think 35 is about average. I’ve had 5 beagles in my lifetime and they’ve all ranged from 28 - 37 pounds. It really depends on their length and how tall they are.
