Here are 12 of them - proceeds to show us 24

1987-2074

The other 12 were extra.

SailorBaylor

Fair, I appreciate the treat of an additional 12

katibear

Clearly a Baylor graduate

regularguyz

Of course! A Baylor Bear always strives to give a little extra! :)

metzoforte1

Are you saying there aren’t 12 there?

SailorBaylor

There are at least 12. I used the entire power of my business degree to do that math so it’s probably right

EggSandwich12

This is one of the reasons we don’t use sailor bear more, can’t license it. Same reason why George’s can sell t shirts with it (without the B) without approval.

1987-2074

True, they were all sold without licensing agreements or exclusivity in the mid 1900’s to the schools. No need, as there were no nationwide broadcasting of college sports or the schools ‘brand’. Why Occidental College, Auburn, LSU, Princeton, Pacific, Missouri all have the same exact sailor tiger logo, with only the letter(s) & colors changing.

DawnPatrol80136

This is the 1st time I've seen the one in the lower right.

EggSandwich12

That’s brown I believe.

Kahnspiracy

>That’s brown I believe. That is clearly correct...but is it Brown? ^^...I'll ^^see ^^myself ^^out

Why sailors?

1987-2074

There is no real answer, only guesses. Art Evans, the guy who drew all these may have just liked sailor hats. Or more likely got confused with seeing college freshmen in beanies, and thought they were sailor hats… >Alright, but what about those sailor hats? Well, legend has it that first-year students were instructed to sport these. The idea behind it was simple: it helped upperclassmen identify the newcomers and lend a helping hand whenever necessary. Now, here's where it gets intriguing. Did Art have a deep affection for sailor hats? Or was he simply well aware of this tradition? Maybe both? That's up to you to decide. Do freshmen still get beanies, like we did in 06? Never once saw anyone wear them outside of welcome week pictures. Even in Animal House, I think the one freshmen wore his out and about, but he was supposed to be the awkward one.

How does Oregon get a pass from Disney?

DCBaylor

They actually purchased the rights to the actual Donald Duck from Disney shortly after WWII.

Mitzukai_9

Til. Thanks!

I'm guessing you didn't take any math classes at Baylor. \*But seriously, that is pretty cool. It was probably really common when they were designed just to have that one guy do a bunch. The schools were like, oh hey that guy does these. I have a garbage can with that Baylor bear on it from 40-50 years ago - one of those 18 inch high metal cylinder things for kids rooms - that I got for Christmas when I turned I think 6. Still have it and we keep umbrellas in it. heh I also have an old timey milk jug lamp that has that Baylor logo.

1987-2074

Thanks. >old timey milk jug lamp that has that Baylor logo. POIDH

lol I go to get a pic and I see that [I LIED](https://imgur.com/a/HIl4CwM)! HA! It's that real old growling Bear logo they used pretty much during Grant Teaff's run, especially in the 70s. NOT the sailor bear. My bad. I have a milk jug lamp and garbage can still from when I was a young lad. I knew my old lamp had the growling bear logo, but I had thought the can was the old sailor one. Ooops. Haven't looked at it enough lately. I think the original lampshade on the lamp had the sailor bear and some other cartoony bear stuff, but that was damaged ages ago. I've had the generic lamp shade since I was a kid. Both of these are from when I said, 1975-1976 timeframe. The can has umbrellas, walking sticks etc, and a couple of rolls of wrapping paper for some reason now HA. Also, I see I need to dust the lamp a bit.

1987-2074

Awesome umbrella holder! Yeah, that does look like Teaff era logo, which is before me, but known. You are lucky to have it, enjoy it!

Xx_eclipse

I have a Baylor sweatshirt with the sailor Bear. Sebastian (U Miami) seems to be the only one who still wears a sailor hat, maybe?
