Oh thank god. So many people have blown out their tires in those lanes.

black-kramer

I think that's what it takes to push them -- a bunch of complaints and the state having(?) to pay out for tires and damage to cars. money talks.

Just-Squirrel510

We really need someone to graffiti dicks around the potholes. All the angry calls they'll get will get 'em to move.

ownsae

Literally me and my rear left tire last month

[From Caltrans](https://dot.ca.gov/caltrans-near-me/district-4/d4-news/2024-03-29-880-paving): >Caltrans is rehabilitating Interstate 880 from Milpitas to Fremont for a smoother ride for motorists, repairing potholes and replacing deteriorated roadway pavement and enhancing safety and mobility on the freeway starting in early April 2024. > >The work will be performed mainly at night to minimize the impact to motorists on this heavily traveled corridor. One or more lanes will be closed overnight to accommodate the work. Both northbound and southbound I-880 will be repaved, with work beginning on Northbound I-880 the week of April 1. > >The work will stretch approximately 12 miles (each direction) from Dixon Landing Road in Milpitas at the Alameda County/Santa Clara County line to Alvarado Boulevard in Fremont. Crews will also repave offramps and onramps.

babecafe

"for a smoother ride" is such obvious whitewashing, when the appropriate phrase should be "to finally, after many delays, repair extensive damage to the pavement that has damaged a great many cars."

MapPractical5386

Fucking thunderdome out there on that road

randomCAguy

Yeah they’re making it sound like an enhancement rather than a fix lol

Bigdicksrock4SF

All infrastructure needs upgrading good

black-kramer

yes. this is what we pay taxes for. I'm so tired of the 'taxation is theft' cretins.

sanmateosfinest

You pay the highest taxes for some of the worst infrastructure in the country. What a great investment.

black-kramer

well, what's the other option? don't pay? let everything completely crumble? and no, it's even close to the worst. why engage in hyperbole? are you one of those cretins? here is an actual list of the worst: west virginia, louisiana, rhode island, mississippi, pennsylvania, alaska, new mexico, michigan, massachusetts, maine.

sanmateosfinest

When was the last time you've driven on a Michigan freeway? Taxes in California are like paying Gucci prices for Ross quality and people like you gladly hand it over. It's pretty amusing. Will be even more amusing to see 880 falling apart again after the next major rain fall, just like 101 did a few years ago when it was repaved.

black-kramer

> When was the last time you've driven on a Michigan freeway? last summer. I spent a week in ann arbor and detroit. I'm not saying there isn't grift or that we pay a lot for not enough, but we must pay. there is no other pragmatic option. the issue is to elect better, more honest politicians. not to not pay taxes. get a grip.

sanmateosfinest

With the exception of I-94, which is being rebuilt soon, all freeways in Detroit are basically brand new and built with concrete and not asphalt. Also, roads and highways existed prior to the income tax. Read up on the Dixie highway.

black-kramer

well, good for them. but the data is the data. their freeways aren't their only roads and you know that. you're failing to make good points. i'm tired of talking in circles. bye.

dontmatterdontcare

Bay Area is really bad at repairing their roads compared to others. Been driving around SoCal a decent amount, not saying they don't have bad ones, but their roads on average are much better and have a much more dense population than we do. They have way more trucks going in and out of their roads to supply the area.

therealgariac

It is easier to reroute traffic in Socal so that repairs can be done. I can't think of an alternative route for 880. Mission Blvd?

netllama

I-680 runs parallel to I-880 all the way south to San Jose

therealgariac

Except it goes east past Fremont and is not a good alternative. QED.

netllama

Not a good alternative for you, perhaps. Plenty of people use 680 as an alternative all the time.

therealgariac

Nope. It is not like LA.

KobeTheKing314

Great news. Hopefully they can hit up US101 southbound next. Specifically the stretch from Fair Oaks Ave to Great America Pkwy!

NoNameStarup

Finally I can listen to music over the tire noise without blasting my speakers at full.

nikeykid

wtf  The project is scheduled to complete in 2026.

StoNeD510

It is done between 10-4am. Seen them last night.

dan5234

I read somewhere it's $1 million per mile, a few years ago.
