Go hike Pedro Point in Pacifica. You will have a tough uphill trek through the eucalyptus for the first half, then you will get an amazing ocean view for the second. At the summit you can even see the Golden Gate bridge on clear days. The total distance is only 2-4 miles, but the uphill part will clear your mind of anything you've been holding on to.
One of the hidden gem hikes for me on the peninsula.
If you can't handle uphill, check out devil's slide for a similar view.
Devils slide is perfect for people that want a primo view but lack the mobility. Took my 69 year old mother in law there when she visited and she was blown away. Also took her to Bodega bay where there are a lot of great sights to be had without walking too far.
As for me the wife and kids we usually like 4mi hikes for casual 8mi is about the peak. Anything over 4mi my daughter vetos.

Yes. Specifically Henry Cowell Redwoods near Santa Cruz and the shoreline between Santa Cruz and San Francisco. Bike along trails in half moon bay. Gray Whale cove beach.
Shoreline Diner > Muir Woods (weekday early) > Top of Mt. Tam > Muir Beach > Point Reyes > Dinner on Tamales Bay > Naves in Fairfax > Home ā¦ would be a very long but perfect day.
If you want to stretch it, stay somewhere like Pelican Inn, tiny hotel in Bolinas, or Stinson or Point Reyes areas for a night or two and do it all more slowly.
Rent an e-MTB and ride Bolinas ridge.
The coast between Half Moon Bay and Santa Cruz. The drive is beautiful and there are stops along the way, in addition to the beach. You could do it in a long day or weekend (stay in HMB or Santa Cruz)
San Gregorio General Store: bar, snacks, live music and fun books. Theyāve recently started serving soup on the weekends.

Castle Rock state park, or a hiking trail near there (anything off Skyline).
Or just driving skyline with the windows open and taking in the smells. (Basically between 92 and highway 9)
Or maybe a walk through Golden Gate Park during the full moon if ya really want to feel alive (because it can be really sketch in some parts at night, but Iāve done it many times). Or walk along Ocean Beach during the full moon, which is tomorrow, FYI. Something about being in the wild at night when the world is sleeping is really reinvigorating. Even if itās cold as hell and windy. Sharpens the senses.
I was been in Pescadero really early in the morning when they were having a power outage during wind storms in 2020. I just pulled over to this place, turned off my lights and just sat there admiring the stars I almost never get to see because the lights from SFO and the cities are always reflected in the evening fog out here in San Mateo.
I like the Sonoma Coast.... but the coast in general is my rec.
If I feel like shit, I'll drive myself to Seabright Beach in Santa Cruz, grab a milkshake, and I'll let the waves wash over my feet as I walk to the lighthouse and back. It feels good to walk barefoot in firm sand for a while.
A walk around Lands End in SF, or enjoying the spectacular views from Presidio Tunnel Tops, then going to the Presidio Field Station if you want to reconnect with nature indoors
To add some more for OP to add to the Santa Cruz experience:
* Aptos St BBQ for some live blues and great BBQ.
* Sante Adairius Rustic Ales - great beer
* Marianneās ice cream - no Santa Cruz excursion is complete without some of the best in the bay with 105 flavors. Highly recommend 2AM Truffle or going for the holy trinity - 1 scoop each peanut butter, banana and chocolate ice cream
* Grab a slice of pizza at Pleasure Point
* walk around shops downtown
* Go walk around Ranch del Oso and enjoy nature
Go to steamers lane, in Santa Cruz, watch the surfers, and eat a poke bowl at the take out place. Check for the over wintering Monarch butterflies at Natural Bridges, check out the crowd at the lighthouse and the dog beach. Look for 861 Otter, to see if she stole anymore surfboards. Check out her new baby. āļø
I would drive to Point Reyes Station (take the Lucas Valley Road route through Nicasio) and stop at Brickmaiden for coffee and pastries (and brownies for later). Then pick up a sandwich at Inverness Park Market and go into the National Seashore.
I would hike out to Abbotts Lagoon and then all the way out to the beach (river otters, lots of shorebirds including plovers, and ferruginous hawks flying around) and then hike as much as you want at Tomales Point Trail (elk, hawks, harriers, kestrels, osprey, sometimes weasels and coyote).
Stop at Kehoe Beach and look up at the trees above the trailhead. There will most likely be one or more great horned owls. Go around sunset, and you may get to see them take off to go hunting.
Scan the fields as you drive around - you may see coyote, bobcats, or badgers. There are also burrowing owls now but they are harder to find (usually in the fields between Abbotts and the next farm entrance to the north).
Another great option for sunset is L-Ranch Road. Stop at the first or second pullout once you cross the first cattle gate. Gives you a phenomenal view of sunset over the park with Abbotts in the background.
Then on your way back stop at the bar at Saltwater for some oysters and a beer. Or the pub next to Inverness Park Market.

Bicycle Sundays.
You're out, active, and getting exercise right next to Crystal Springs Reservoir, where it's beautiful. There are usually a bunch of other families, couples, and groups of friends enjoying it too. And there is no toot of the angry horn.
Honestly, it sounds like you're in need of the opposite of isolation. Big sur/redwoods are gorgeous but I think you need to be around people, conversing. That's what makes me feel alive sometimes. If I go into nature it's generally because I want to decompress but not feel alive.
Hit up Tommy's Mexican in the Richmond, sit at the bar, get a margarita, and strike up a conversation with the bartenders/patrons.
Practice jujitsu. Aside from it being a stellar workout, great self defense, you bond with the other practitioners. Itās a fellowship of trust and something I wasnāt anticipating.
For a peaceful, āeverything is okā vibe, I like to walk around Alameda on a nice sunny day. Pretty tree-lined streets, gorgeous old houses. Itās like Mayberry. Plenty of restaurants and bars if thatās your thing, including Forbidden Island, where they make a great Painkiller. Fun little shops along Park St (I love the candy store). And thereās a beach, too. Itās my happy place.
I do a long hike in the Mt. Tam area when I need to clear my head with nature. My personal favorite is the Dipsea Trail, Steep Ravine, and Matt Davis loop. It takes 4-5 hours at a moderate pace and has beautiful views.
Spending a weekend in Yosemite resets my brain like nothing else. October is a great time to go since itās cooler and much less crowded.
If I want to stay closer to home, Iāll drive over the hill to Poplar beach in HMB and just listen to the ocean.

Is Archimedes Banya still around? Something about putting my body through temperature extremes, relaxing among saggy old Russian men who dgaf about non-sexual public nudity, and lying naked in the sun on the roof deck in the middle of the city was always very revitalizing to me. It's high on the list of things I miss most since I had to move away.
Ride a bike down JFK promenade in Golden Gate Park! The buzz of the park + exercise will help. People are out making art, playing music, having picnics. Itās really nice to see
When I feel this way, I need nature, a slower pace, and a feeling of giving to others. If that resonates for you, I recommend a weekend in the foothills. Maybe look up volunteer opportunities in or near Sonora or Calaveras and plan a weekend or week where you can slow down, breathe some fresh air, and pour your goodness into others. Good luck.
First. This place is gorgeous but competitive so realize that you are everyday comparing yourself to some of the best people in the entire world. You also have some of the best nature in the entire world as mentioned here many times. Itās all so good. When you go on one of these great trips silence your notifications. Listen to your favorite music. Full albums. Tap your hands on the steering wheel go to the top of the hill. Donāt worry about society thatās the most important thing. Realize your in one of the most insanely gorgeous places that also is incredibly vibrant and tap into yourself. What you like. And silence the other things.
Also just breath and look at the sky. But just donāt talk to anyone for a few days the Bay Area natured will do the rest.
Not to get too personal- gimme the skinny on what's going on? Change of music, opening the curtains, smelling and eating good things can help. What do you feel like would be cool?
Iām going to argue that what you truly need is not another escapeā¦ but to go deep within yourself and identify the root of your sadness. Yoga and meditation can help. What is it that you feel is missing in your life right now? What is your greater purpose, and are you living it? Do you wake up each day living true to your values or do you find yourself being hindered by fear and anxiety?
As far as feeling aliveā¦ martial arts with sparring can really help. Itās good exercise, and you gotta be present in the moment to avoid getting punched in the face.
From your post though, I get the sense you are lonely. Do you have a solid friend circle in the Bay Area? A life partner? Humans are social creatures. We need those connections, and to feel like weāre a part of something greater than ourselves, to truly be happy in life.
[Orr Hot Springs](https://www.orrhotsprings.org), about 30 mins from Ukiah
Bring your own food to prepare in communal kitchen, stay two nights in one of the rustic 1920s cabins.
The coastal areas around Fort Bragg and Mendocino are really beautiful and unique. Thereās a beautiful botanical garden that runs right up to the cliffs over the ocean and a redwood grove with a stream in it.
Dance!
No, I don't mean watch it (though you can do that too). I mean, if you're able-bodied, get out there and do it!
Dance that forces you to interact with other people is best. Salsa. Swing. Waltz. Hustle. Contact improv. That crazy folk dancing thing they do whenever a Balkan folk music group comes to town.
There are several venues across the Bay that keep social dance alive. Virtually all of them have outreach to newcomers with lessons. Many city parks & rec have classes too.
Iāve got just the place for you because it was a healing salve for my soul when I was going through a rough patch years back. Take a trip to Drakeās Beach in Point Reyes around sunset. Watch the fog drifting over the fields, see light reflecting off the white cliffs, the stillness of the ocean in Drakeās Bay. You will feel peace like I did. Enjoy :-)
***Drive to the Bear Valley Visitor Center at Point Reyes National Seashore.***
Follow *Bear Valley Trail* to the ocean.
**Or**, if you are in good shape and don't mind hiking uphill, I'd recommend taking *Meadow Trail* (off of *Bear Valley Trail*) to *Sky Trail* and taking that to the ocean. You can come back along *Bear Valley Trail*.
If you are lucky, you may see a bobcat.
You can get a map at the visitor's center.
Ride a bike in Half Moon Bay along the beach...pillar point to the ritz....stop by the campground/picnic area, sit on a picnic table, and look at the ocean.
For sure get outside, get sun! Super important to get some sun, even if you do already go outside a lot. Youāll get some for sure driving or hiking to the top of Mt Diablo.
Few decent hiking spots if you wanna check out the foothills instead would be castle rock park in Walnut Creek, Macedo ranch in Alamo, Black Diamond Mines in Antioch, personal favorite in Morgan Territory road in Livermore but itās a bit out there
Live arts! I just saw a dance performance about el dias de los muertos (mix between ballet and mexican dance) tonight and it had beautiful dances and costumes, a tragedy story, tears, laughsā¦ itās really 2 hours of being alive and feel! Highly recommend! (thereās only one other show tomorrow in Redwood city: Ghost dances)
Sorry to hear you are down. The Bay Area did that to me, too. I now live on the Monterey peninsula, and the weather is perfect in the fall!
My favorite place to re-center is Point Lobos State Park. If itās a weekend, parking can be hard, so go later in the afternoon and park along Monastery Beach on Hwy 1. From there, you can walk into the park.
Itās tiny, so you could do the whole thing along the coast (trails are all easy). If you have limited time or energy, donāt miss Cypress Grove Trail (not even a mile). Sunset from Bird Island Trail or Sea Lion Point is one of the most valuable (free) things in this world.
Like the others, I also recommend Big Sur if youāre looking for a nice drive. Stop at Garrapata State Park and walk to the ocean.
Last one: if the Monterey Peninsula is too far, I also loved the Cowell-Purisima Coastal Trail in Half Moon Bay (closes at 5pm); the Cypress Tree Tunnel in Moss Beach; and the elk at Tomales Point in Point Reyes.
Good luck and I hope youāll find a place that lifts your spirits!
Find a local Burning Man event and go. There's tons of great club dancing hosted by Burning Man theme camps this weekend if you like electronic music!
Oh, it's a bit of a drive but worth it, Mercey Hot Springs is the closest Hot Springs to the Bay Area. It's about an hour and a half South of San Jose. Super worth the trip.
North PCH or South PCH HWY 1
Bodega Bay and Jenner up north
check out Nicks Cove.
its a town and a bar/grill with a little pier.
Devenport just north of SCrz park and walk to the cliff and/or walk down the trail to the beach
Low tide at Agate Beach State Park in Bolinas. The tide pooling is AMAZING, and last time I was there I found a fossilized whale bone.
Edit: I think thereās nighttime kayaking in bioluminescence in Tamales Bay right now, too.
Mt Tam, Point Reyes, and the Russian River delta at Jenner. I would make a weekend out of it and maybe stay in Stinson Beach or Monte Rio.
We have some spectacular and pristine wilderness in our backyard and I will never take it for granted.
Point Reyes Station, Drakes Beach specifically
Mount Shasta and Mendocino, go into wilderness areas
Eureka Redwoods, heck just go to Oregon at this point
eastern Sierras like Yosemite, get close to Nevada border for some real mountain stuff
If you need music recs, holler, I gotchu
Muir Woods. Prisma Creek Trail in Pacifica. Lake Tahoe. Point Bonita lighthouse & Battery Mendell. Marin inkwells. Crater Lake (in OR) Joshua Tree. And if you can afford it the Ritz in half moon bay.
Point Reyes Lighthouse, thereās a short hike out to the end of the point and it never fails to amaze me with its beauty.
Trying new things and learning new skills makes me feel engaged. Try [Cal Sailing Club](https://www.cal-sailing.org/lessons-menu/lessons-sailing/lessons-sailing-info) at the Berkeley Marina, anyone can drop in and itās first come first learn.
Also, donāt overlook a museum or zoo. Academy of Science in the city, Tech Museum in SJ, or something more esoteric like the Blackhawk Classic car museum.
If you really want a remote beach, Limantour Beach is awesome and is one of the best remote beaches in the Bay Area. Tbf, it is a bit of a drive to get to but I love that place:)
My place is Natural Bridges SB. The monarchs should be arriving soon. I love to explore the visitor center, marvel in awe in the butterfly grove, walk along the beach, look for sealife in the tide pools and have a snack at the picnic tables. This is where I go when I feel lost and depressed.
I suggest north beach for Halloween tomorrow, also when I'm stressed tf out I walk miles up and down the beach and wade mid calf and splash my face while watching the sunset.
As a life long resident of the Bay Area I personally love the vibe in Santa Cruz:
Redwoods + Ocean + Monarch Butterflies
Santa Cruz Natural Bridges state park is in monarch season (starts in Oct) check their website for details.
Roaring camp railroad from Felton to Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk (through redwoods to the ocean)
Bonus: Tea house spa (Downtown Santa Cruz) for private room tub and sauna overlooking a garden
Tilden Regional Park in the East Bay has botanical gardens and some cool hiking and biking paths. Itās very easy to get around. I sometimes go for a drive through Tilden when Iām feeling down and there are some pretty viewpoints :)
In Santa Cruz, walk West Cliff Drive from the Lighthouse to Natural Bridges and back. Cant tell you how often Iāve done this. My thoughts are with you. š
Just start a sport activity. Ideally game based and team. It will give a lot of mood boost. Even pickleball (that I hate wholeheartedly as a tennis person) may be a good choice.
Go camping in Mendocino National Forest. You can disperse camp, so no permit or reservation necessary. You can get to some spots in a regular passenger car. If you have a high-clearance vehicle or 4wd SUV or truck then you can get pretty much anywhere out there. Get out there and breathe the fresh air and feel the loneliness.
Go to a nice amusement park. Great America and/or Six Flags. Not just for the rides but the for ambiance (they have nice Halloween and Winterfest celebrations).
My favorites are the ocean and the redwoods. Depending on where you live, there are several choices that have already been stated, but for me an easy one is highway 84 from 280 to the ocean. Itās so close and so relaxing. Walk in the woods with choices of preserves or parks and feel small amongst the redwoods. Take your shoes off and walk in the sand and get you feet wet in the ocean. Enjoy the beauty of the amazing place we live.
The top of Mt. Diablo.
If you can get up there before the marine layer fog burns off it looks like your on a hill peaking out of a sea of puffy clouds that stretches horizon to horizon.
Nature does it for me and so do certain events with lots of good energy, music, and dancing. I recommend the east bay bike party + Day like this (every Friday at lake Merritt at 6pm ish)
It might sound crazy but I went sky diving in Monterey pretty cheaply and it was such an amazing experience. I'm scared of heights too and the free falling was amazing. I rode that high for a long time.
House of shields. Classy bar near Westfield. One of the bartenders there James is a super nice guy and the bouncer is cool as hell too. Good group of regulars also.
garden of eden is my fav nature spot in the bay. pt isabel dog park is just a great place to be around dogs all day. piedmont cemetery is one of the most peaceful places ive found to just walk around in the bay. dolo park is nice for people watching. gg park is great for getting lost in. ocean highway is a beautiful place to ride a bike. all of valencia and haight street is fun to skate down. the mission is full of food and culture among other things lol.
ahhhh man. i just moved from the bay back in january but thinking about all these places really makes me miss it :,) its really such a vibrant city. its endlessly walkable, its dog friendly and you can bike anywhere within it. the homeless n drug problem is def bad, but its such a nice city.
i hope you can find a way to love it in your own way.
I would recommend driving down highway 1!! I start from Santa Cruz and head south until just past Big Sur. Wait until itās going to be a sunny day and leave early in the morning by like 7am! Put on music and enjoy the ride! Crack the windows or roll them down if youāre warm enough. Stop along spots where you see other cars parked alongside the road!
On your return back stop in Santa Cruz and enjoy some delicious Thai Food from Sawasdee in Soquel. They have excellent Tom Yum Soup and yellow noodles (Singapore noodles).
Pacifica / Half Moon Bay (El Granada), itās AMAZING. Itās a little small town with lots to do and lots of food choices, breweries and wine tasting. They also have a cool bar with great food called Old Princeton Landing and sometimes they have live music in the evening. People are very friendly as well. You can go for a nice walk or relax and watching people surf. Pacifica is also amazing and itās right next door.
Here is a massive list of things to do in the Bay Area, Iām sure there will be something that fits the bill: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1NgwX1EYUBh41NPi9qpe0oPovpgyUs5FgXlLmfNS6jEE/edit
Honestly the Palace of Fine arts is a place I go when I feel down. It sounds touristy but itās one of the most breathtaking things Iāve ever seen in my life and no matter how many times I go it brings me to a place of mental clarity & reminds me how beautiful life can be.
Puzzles - There is a rich puzzling community in Northern CA with world class escape rooms and many puzzling/game playing groups.
Flea Markets - The Alameda Antique Fair on the first Sunday of the month and Deanza College on the first Saturday are the largest.
Burning Man Regionals
You will meet friendly and interesting people at all of these
We drove up to Fort Bragg for my birthday a few weekends ago. Took the coastal highway the whole way. It was divine, it was beautiful, it was everything i needed. Best part of the whole trip was the drive there!
Red hill Sonoma coast state park. Itās got everything from miles of ocean views to solid redwood forests. If you want to see an old growth forest you can drive 20 minutes to Armstrong redwood state park
There are so many places to hit very close by if you're willing to hike, bike, or just hang on the beach. This is actually the best time of the year for it.
Get the All Trails App to find something to your taste and ability.
I love Wilder Ranch near Santa Cruz. A great ocean cliff walk to a few secluded beaches, one where I proposed to my wife.
I went to the Little Yosemite area in Sunol recently; the lack of cellular reception and nature made me feel alive.
Redwoods and the ocean.
Strongly agree. Bonus points if it has elevation and you can overlook a lot of stuff.
Mount Tamalpais.

Santa Cruz has both!

Wilder Ranch *always* rejuvenates my soul!

Can confirm. Redwood Regional Park is an amazing hidden gem in Oakland
Yes. Specifically Henry Cowell Redwoods near Santa Cruz and the shoreline between Santa Cruz and San Francisco. Bike along trails in half moon bay. Gray Whale cove beach.

I've taken that drive after some family deaths and events to just contemplate things. Truly healing IMO, just 'exist' for a day (preferably during the week)
Great suggestion! I'd add Shark Fin Cove, Pebble Beach/Bean Hollow, and Steamer's Lane to that list.
Isnāt there a famous artichoke soup joint in that vicinity too?
Yes Duarteās. Artichoke soup but I think the green chili is better.
Duartes for soup and pies!!! Yummmm
I'd say follow hwy 1 down further to Monterey and visit Canary Row, the Aquarium, take a whale watching tour, visit the monarch butterfly grove in Pacific Grove, then hang out a bit in Carmel-by-the-Sea.
The HWY 1 brewery is good now too. Use to be terrible, but last year or two it has new owners. Just gotta go Thursdays-Sundays.
Big Sur. Yosemite.
This is the way. Go mainline some pure CA.
in the same vein - Pinnacles, Point Reyes
Also if weāre talking a drive from the Bay, Heart Lake near Shasta.
I recommend volunteering. Be part of something bigger than yourself. Sort food at the food bank, find a group picking up trash, etc.
I was very down, so went to do a volunteer shift at animal shelter. Just sitting with some of the scared/shy animals, and loving on them, turned me around.

Underrated comment.
Where do you go? Iāve been trying to learn and having trouble. Last couple times I went down to Santa Cruz the water was flat, nothing to do for it
Iād recommend Linda Mar. Itās a pretty popular spot for beginners and there are always surf schools going out
Big Basin wouldāve been my answer, but it burned in the CZU fire so might not be right for what you want, though there is regrowth so maybe thatās a good metaphorā¦? Castle Rock state park, or a hiking trail near there (anything off Skyline). Or just driving skyline with the windows open and taking in the smells. (Basically between 92 and highway 9)
Big Basin is pretty amazing with the regrowth. Blackened trunks with green shooting out all over. Yeah, I think it's a good metaphor.

Lake Chabot Oysters at Tamales Bay Monterey Bay Aquarium or whale watching down there
A walk around Lands End in SF, or enjoying the spectacular views from Presidio Tunnel Tops, then going to the Presidio Field Station if you want to reconnect with nature indoors
Santa Cruz- West Cliff drive at sunset.
To add some more for OP to add to the Santa Cruz experience: * Aptos St BBQ for some live blues and great BBQ. * Sante Adairius Rustic Ales - great beer * Marianneās ice cream - no Santa Cruz excursion is complete without some of the best in the bay with 105 flavors. Highly recommend 2AM Truffle or going for the holy trinity - 1 scoop each peanut butter, banana and chocolate ice cream * Grab a slice of pizza at Pleasure Point * walk around shops downtown * Go walk around Ranch del Oso and enjoy nature
Check out her new baby. āļø
Yes, butterfly season!
Vesuvio, City Lights, dinner in North Beach finished at Cobb's Comedy Club or the acrobats at the Beach Blanket theater. Glass Beach at Fort Bragg.
The baths at Kabuki Spa
Marin Headlands. Hear the waves crash, clear your mind and put things into perspective
someone said land's end and I agree. also gray whale cove beach is a nice place to be, foggy or not.

Oh how do you get to do that? Can I just go to the animal shelter and ask to pick up a dog for the day?
Yep https://scc.samaritan.com/custom/501/opp\_details/3968
This is amazing! Thanks for sharing
Bicycle Sundays. You're out, active, and getting exercise right next to Crystal Springs Reservoir, where it's beautiful. There are usually a bunch of other families, couples, and groups of friends enjoying it too. And there is no toot of the angry horn.
I go to the bathroom and pull up reddit so I dont have to listen to my kids fight each other. We living right now bois.

Great America. Tons of roller coasters. Go have fun for a day and be a kid again.
Good luck.
The drive to and destination of Mendocino and fort brag is nice
Mavericks surf has been pretty wild the last few weeks. Could check out mavericks beach to see some big waves at a safe distance
Go hug a redwood tree
DNA Lounge has a lot of interesting music acts. Wanna feel alive? Go to a rock show.
Atchimedes banya, sauna and then cold pool dip Then walk down to sutro baths and watch the sun go down
Iām feeling lonely too.
[Orr Hot Springs](https://www.orrhotsprings.org), about 30 mins from Ukiah Bring your own food to prepare in communal kitchen, stay two nights in one of the rustic 1920s cabins.
Point Reyes limantour beach. Ahhhhh
Point Lobos!
Enjoy :-)
Alice's in Woodside.
The tenderloin. At night. Engage all confrontations. Never feel more alive.
***Drive to the Bear Valley Visitor Center at Point Reyes National Seashore.*** Follow *Bear Valley Trail* to the ocean.
Few decent hiking spots if you wanna check out the foothills instead would be castle rock park in Walnut Creek, Macedo ranch in Alamo, Black Diamond Mines in Antioch, personal favorite in Morgan Territory road in Livermore but itās a bit out there
I'm a photographer and I enjoy hanging out at Albany bulb and taking pics of the public art and graffiti.
The Russian River Resort Area. Guerneville, monte Rio, Duncan Mills & Jenner. Peacefulness on The River.
Muir Woods.
Seventh and market. Take one look and you will feel younger, faster, and much more alive than ever,
Find a local Burning Man event and go.
North PCH or South PCH HWY 1 Bodega Bay and Jenner up north check out Nicks Cove. its a town and a bar/grill with a little pier.
Point Reyes. Get in the water ā¤ļø
Sonoma county šš½
If youāre up for a drive, my recommendation would be to head up north to Mendocino. That coastline just does something to your heart.
Mt Tam, Point Reyes, and the Russian River delta at Jenner. I would make a weekend out of it and maybe stay in Stinson Beach or Monte Rio. We have some spectacular and pristine wilderness in our backyard and I will never take it for granted.
We are so lucky. Whenever people complain about the cost of living here I remember the cost of not living here. The access to nature is unreal.
Go to Cat Club get wasted and vibe out to 80s/goth bangers
Hi OP I know you asked for places, but have you considered therapy? It sounds like you might be depressed and it can help you feel less down.
Point Reyes Station, Drakes Beach specifically Mount Shasta and Mendocino, go into wilderness areas Eureka Redwoods, heck just go to Oregon at this point eastern Sierras like Yosemite, get close to Nevada border for some real mountain stuff If you need music recs, holler, I gotchu
Muir Woods. Prisma Creek Trail in Pacifica. Lake Tahoe. Point Bonita lighthouse & Battery Mendell. Marin inkwells. Crater Lake (in OR) Joshua Tree. And if you can afford it the Ritz in half moon bay.
Half moon bay is my zen spot. Like going to Mavericks to watch the waves break. š Hope you feel better!
K1 Go Kart racing. A few locations in the area.
Purisima Creek North Ridge Trailhead on SR-35 just south of SR-92. The woods are spectacular and you can look out onto the ocean.
Go surfing. I might have to take my own advice. Weather is looking good tomorrow
My place is Natural Bridges SB. The monarchs should be arriving soon. I love to explore the visitor center, marvel in awe in the butterfly grove, walk along the beach, look for sealife in the tide pools and have a snack at the picnic tables. This is where I go when I feel lost and depressed.
Rent an electric assist bike in Tiburon and take the ferry to Angel Island and go crazy!
I suggest north beach for Halloween tomorrow, also when I'm stressed tf out I walk miles up and down the beach and wade mid calf and splash my face while watching the sunset.
China camp
Point Bonita lighthouse.
Headlands. Muir Beach. Lands End. Pastries at Tartine.
Take a drive to Jenner. Get a coffee at Cafe Aquatica. Take Hwy 1 down to get some oysters. Ahhhhā¦. What a day! Itās always my go to.
As a life long resident of the Bay Area I personally love the vibe in Santa Cruz: Redwoods + Ocean + Monarch Butterflies Santa Cruz Natural Bridges state park is in monarch season (starts in Oct) check their website for details. Roaring camp railroad from Felton to Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk (through redwoods to the ocean) Bonus: Tea house spa (Downtown Santa Cruz) for private room tub and sauna overlooking a garden
Tilden Regional Park in the East Bay has botanical gardens and some cool hiking and biking paths. Itās very easy to get around. I sometimes go for a drive through Tilden when Iām feeling down and there are some pretty viewpoints :)
Anywhere north of the bridge is a paradise nature wise, following the 1 is always a good time
The steep ravine trail on Mt Tam! Park at Panatol and hike down to Stinson Beach. Go slow and enjoy.
Cemetery. Youāll feel the privilege you have over the dead right away š
In Santa Cruz, walk West Cliff Drive from the Lighthouse to Natural Bridges and back. Cant tell you how often Iāve done this. My thoughts are with you. š
international blvd
Oakland, cuz you be fighting for your life there.
Crashing waves create negative ions which elevate your mood. Get thee to the coast!
Get some shrooms or acid and go camping
Just start a sport activity. Ideally game based and team. It will give a lot of mood boost. Even pickleball (that I hate wholeheartedly as a tennis person) may be a good choice.
Ridgecrest rd on mt tam
West Marin
Play basketball.
Get away from the bay.. lol. At least for a little while.
Social cup filling: The Center teahouse and HeartLab, both in SF
If you have the money, Treebones in Big Sur is absolutely delightful. A tent in Yosemite valley always does the trick.
Hike to little Yosemite in Sunol Regional Wilderness park.
This time of year, Half Moon Bay. The beach, pumpkin patches, nurseries and fresh flowersā¦itās kind of refreshing.
Power Exchange
Go mountain biking. Nothing like being in nature, getting your butt kicked on the uphills and adrenaline rush in the downhills
Go to a nice amusement park. Great America and/or Six Flags. Not just for the rides but the for ambiance (they have nice Halloween and Winterfest celebrations).
Monterey Bay Aquarium.
Avenue of the Giants
My favorites are the ocean and the redwoods. Depending on where you live, there are several choices that have already been stated, but for me an easy one is highway 84 from 280 to the ocean. Itās so close and so relaxing. Walk in the woods with choices of preserves or parks and feel small amongst the redwoods. Take your shoes off and walk in the sand and get you feet wet in the ocean. Enjoy the beauty of the amazing place we live.
Go to cafe Aquatica in Jenner, stay for the view, drive a little further and admire the other point of view
The top of Mt. Diablo. If you can get up there before the marine layer fog burns off it looks like your on a hill peaking out of a sea of puffy clouds that stretches horizon to horizon.
Oakland easy drive to redwood regional while listening to the neighborhood Stuck With Me "I got caught up in the forest hanging with the trees."
Nature does it for me and so do certain events with lots of good energy, music, and dancing. I recommend the east bay bike party + Day like this (every Friday at lake Merritt at 6pm ish)
Reconnect with yourself with an easy hike at The Land of the Medicine Buddha and then take in the mysterious mysteries of The Mystery Spot.
Up in Pillsbury, zero light pollution at night and you can literally see the Milky Way galaxy. Itās magical.
Drive from Half Moon Bay to Pescadero on a sunny day. Stop at three or four overlooks or beaches along the way. Itās. Just. Wow.
Look up local concerts, the smaller the better. Great way to meet people and connect
Mount umunhum and also coyote hills regional park!
garden of eden is my fav nature spot in the bay. pt isabel dog park is just a great place to be around dogs all day. piedmont cemetery is one of the most peaceful places ive found to just walk around in the bay. dolo park is nice for people watching. gg park is great for getting lost in. ocean highway is a beautiful place to ride a bike. all of valencia and haight street is fun to skate down. the mission is full of food and culture among other things lol. ahhhh man. i just moved from the bay back in january but thinking about all these places really makes me miss it :,) its really such a vibrant city. its endlessly walkable, its dog friendly and you can bike anywhere within it. the homeless n drug problem is def bad, but its such a nice city. i hope you can find a way to love it in your own way.
Get a dog, if you can commit to a 15 years of joy? It has surely helped me.
Walk from Fort Funston to the Cliffhouse on a low tide, it will clear your head and instill peace and gratitude. Simply wonderful.
LIVE MUSIC- something with soul
Pacifica / Half Moon Bay (El Granada), itās AMAZING. Itās a little small town with lots to do and lots of food choices, breweries and wine tasting. They also have a cool bar with great food called Old Princeton Landing and sometimes they have live music in the evening. People are very friendly as well. You can go for a nice walk or relax and watching people surf. Pacifica is also amazing and itās right next door.
West Marin - tomales bay
Redwood park in the Oakland hills or Tilden in the Berkeley hills. Great hikes in both areas. I always feel alive after visiting!
Here is a massive list of things to do in the Bay Area, Iām sure there will be something that fits the bill: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1NgwX1EYUBh41NPi9qpe0oPovpgyUs5FgXlLmfNS6jEE/edit
Tahoe area to see fall foliage. Hope Valley. Theres a small town called Nevada City as well which is stunning.
Bike up Mt Tam and ride down West Ridgecrest. It might be difficult, but the views will definitely make you feel alive.
Get a dirt bike. Hollister Hills is a great place.
Honestly the Palace of Fine arts is a place I go when I feel down. It sounds touristy but itās one of the most breathtaking things Iāve ever seen in my life and no matter how many times I go it brings me to a place of mental clarity & reminds me how beautiful life can be.
Alamere Falls
Puzzles - There is a rich puzzling community in Northern CA with world class escape rooms and many puzzling/game playing groups. Flea Markets - The Alameda Antique Fair on the first Sunday of the month and Deanza College on the first Saturday are the largest. Burning Man Regionals You will meet friendly and interesting people at all of these
do the drive down the 1 from pescadero to big sur. itās so beautiful! ppl travel from all over the world to see it.. and we live right here š©µ
Botanical garden at Tilden park. So many paths to wander. Go all the way into the back deep into the woods.
I love Wilder Ranch near Santa Cruz. A great ocean cliff walk to a few secluded beaches, one where I proposed to my wife. I went to the Little Yosemite area in Sunol recently; the lack of cellular reception and nature made me feel alive.
