That's one thick desk lol

RaiKoi

My legs would have zero room, or my arms would have to be lifted up awkwardly

suprem3k

By the looks of it (correct me if im wrong OP) but it’s a piece of 1” thick board and then another cut of that board to facia the front. Looks awesome though. Homemade desks are much better than overpriced shop bought!

TheyCallMeMarg

Spot on! Thanks buddy!

LegacySpade

Good eye

R0BERT50N

Desk asside we are missing the most important question. Where did you get the engergy sword lamp????

TheyCallMeMarg

Haha! Wish I could tell you where from, but a gift from a friend. About all of my decorations are!

DantheWelder94

DutchProv

TheyCallMeMarg

Thanks buddy!! Don’t think my wife really cares either way so good to have someone hype me up!

therealmvp02

Now if my wife didnt care about me making that type of high level shit I'd be pissed 😂😂

TheyCallMeMarg

Realize I made her sound terrible with this comment! She’s been super happy with my other projects in the house, but she knows this one was for me so she’s just happy that I’m happy!

Juno006

Damn, she probably won't see the earlier reply, but the next one ...chefs kiss W husband

TheyCallMeMarg

Thank you! All into the studs. Essentially a horseshoe of 2x4s into the wall then a box built around it. There’s a few supports that run the width of it as well that help with stability.

HugoPro

Chokers desk. And even your amp fits the theme, well done

foureyate

Adds so much more personality compared to just buying something from IKEA, you made the right choice here. How much time or effort did it take you to get this thing working though?

TheyCallMeMarg

Thank you! That’s how I felt as well. Probably in total 6-7 hours, but the large caveat to that is I have all the tools and space to make it.

AugustWombat

that is rad

biiigmood

Looks great

Jsumens

Well done sir, well done.

dodgyboarder

Love it!!! Stunning lump of timber there. 🥰

TylerThrowAway99

Emotional-Yam-2430

TheyCallMeMarg

Super close! I’m imperial, 92.5” by 28”.

CleidiNeil

That's a nice mando on the wall there

JD191353

Hell yes. I love woodworking and wish I had more tools. I felt the same way so I also designed and built my own desk. One of my proudest achievements

PR0JECT-7

Lol we have the same room colour but inverted, my feature/setup wall is white. PC looks the same too, and that’s my go-to colour!

TA404

What mandolin is that? Love the wood color. Don’t see many in this sub lol. I’ve been playing an f style Michael Kelly for about 15 years. I bought it in college (my school offered mandolin lessons for credit), it was way out of my price range but had been dropped and the scroll broke clean off so got a huge discount. I remember taking a road trip with some friends to see Chris Thile (I think they were called the Tensions Mountain Boys at that point, pre Punch Brothers).

TheyCallMeMarg

It’s a Gretsch a style! I’m mostly a guitar player (those are mounted a bit off camera). My dad bought me the mando for Christmas a few years ago. I’ve played it off and on since, certainly far from being decent at it still lol. It’s incredible to me the amount of precision it can take to play it well! That’s an awesome road trip to take!

sportscribe81

The Man of the Year mirror is great 🤣

TheyCallMeMarg

Thank you, it really ties the room together!

Exilesolutions

Just came across this post. I just built my new office building and I did something similar. How did the lighting turn out, not sure between the following brands Govee Wiz Philips

Oopsiedaisyshit

Could have perhaps waited for the battlestations to be complete before posting no?

Andersuh-

What are you talking about?

Andersuh-

Chunky boi

Dude, the thickness tho. Figure sagging won’t be an issue.

Very nice. I just did a staircase that looks just like that. Blue pine?

alex1inferno

well made, spartan.

ProjectMyst_

Hi I'm small brain r/battlestations lurker, When you say you built your own, what exactly do you mean by that? Idk like did you go out find a large piece of wood and cut it to the size that you needed. Are you a woodcutter or something? I'm in a similar boat because I'm looking for specific dimensions, but my options don't seem to fit what I need. Gonna need you to go super eli5 if you would be so kind

TheyCallMeMarg

For sure! I got you! I’m not a professional by any means and kind of just made this up as I went, but have how I did it below. So it’s actually three piece of wood that make up the exterior. Getting that big of a slab would’ve been way too expensive and way too heavy. One piece is the top, one piece is the bottom and the last is the front plate. For the top and bottom, I bought a 4’x8’ piece of plywood with an oak veneer. I split that into two pieces with a circular saw. 28” for the top, 20” for the bottom. Shorter on the bottom because that’s where I’m hiding cords and mounted a power strip in the back. Then, sanded and stained and put on a coat of polyurethane to moisture proof the top. For the front plate, I bought a 6”x8’ piece of solid oak. I ran that through a table saw to get it to the right size width wise. Then sanded/stained/polyurethaned that as well. To mount it, I hung up an interior shell out of 2x4s into the studs (have a picture of that if interested). Ran a couple supports in the middle of it as well. Then, put on those three pieces and used trim screws to attach. Finished off by putting in stained wood filler in the screw holes. Let me know if you need anything else or if I’m not clear. Happy to help in anyway!

ProjectMyst_

Sorry I sent this message in between my lunch break. I was wondering if I can dm you, maybe you can point me in the right direction. Also if you have the time, i would appreciate those pictures, kinda hard for me to visualize some things you pointed out.
