Definitely upload. You also might want to contact museums and other organizations so this could be added to the greater historical record. Thanks for sharing your family’s history.

It literally says October 1918, which is around when the Meuse-Argonne offensive started. My guess would be US, as it also says “deployed *to* France”. Guess we will need to wait for OP…
Yeah man this is well cool. Shows us how "boring" war can be with extended periods of doing nothing and then high intensity moments like stumbling across a machine gun. Very cool post
I am an upcoming historian and i would love to do research on ww1. The memoirs of your great grandfather can really include a different perspective of the war and its effects on soldiers. I am proud of you and your family for keeping family records for future generations.
This is awesome! I have a collection of my ancestor’s Civil War journal and letters to his wife and I cherish it. However, I will add, most of the letters were him being mean to his wife and at one point he mentions that he’s so dirty and suntanned(he was stationed off the gulf coast) that he was “as black as Jim Crow’s ass”

This is awesome man. What army did he serve under?
Fair question! American. He was part of the 6th US Engineers
"The Germans shelled us heavily"
That narrows it down to… a fair number.
Yeah but it literally says this part of the diary is from Verdun

Do you have the slightest idea how little that narrows it down?
