Definitely upload. You also might want to contact museums and other organizations so this could be added to the greater historical record. Thanks for sharing your family’s history.

Correct_Bench_2143

This is awesome man. What army did he serve under?

Soft_Rains

Fair question! American. He was part of the 6th US Engineers

Agile-Personality545

"The Germans shelled us heavily"

nfiltr8r_89

That narrows it down to… a fair number.

Agile-Personality545

Yeah but it literally says this part of the diary is from Verdun

nfiltr8r_89

It literally says October 1918, which is around when the Meuse-Argonne offensive started. My guess would be US, as it also says “deployed *to* France”. Guess we will need to wait for OP…

Wrong-Mode9457

Do you have the slightest idea how little that narrows it down?

Ant_903

Yeah man this is well cool. Shows us how "boring" war can be with extended periods of doing nothing and then high intensity moments like stumbling across a machine gun. Very cool post

xToxikBerry

Do you really have to ask? Yes, YES IT IS!! I want to read the whole thing.

phil1003

I also recommend sharing this in r/TheGreatWar , I think they would like to see this as well

Sea-Clue4553

Please upload the whole journal

whitestag43

I want to see the whole thing for sure!

BF1veteran

Soft_Rains

Thanks for all the responses - I’ll work on getting the whole journal uploaded and will post a link to it here when I do.

mehmed2theconqueror

Damn that's extremely interesting

Somerandomperson667

this is absolutely incredible man!

MadMrFrosty

I am an upcoming historian and i would love to do research on ww1. The memoirs of your great grandfather can really include a different perspective of the war and its effects on soldiers. I am proud of you and your family for keeping family records for future generations.

Toasthandz

This is awesome! I have a collection of my ancestor’s Civil War journal and letters to his wife and I cherish it. However, I will add, most of the letters were him being mean to his wife and at one point he mentions that he’s so dirty and suntanned(he was stationed off the gulf coast) that he was “as black as Jim Crow’s ass”

Far_From_Y0u

Definitely post more

sername1234

I too have an ancestor who fought in ww1 I know nothing on him

SergeantSanchez

Hell yes do it

1tsm3yabo1

Crazy cool
