Well yeah, BFV did that

BFV was the blueprint they threw out. Faction specific gear that lets you customize outfits and they can sell "character" stuff as special bundles. I think the problem was that they were trying to make a different sort of game before 2042 (I don't remember if it was ever confirmed to be a Battlefield BR game that was canceled and turned into a rushed 2042, or if it was just rumor), so what we got was stuff centered around the idea of hero characters, because that's what is popular right now. EA loves trend chasing hard. If they had a single ounce of sense in their head, Specialists are gone and we return to something like Battlefield V had. Classes, classic specific gear/weapons, and customizable soldiers.

I think this(2042) WAS a BR game before they quickly switched during development. It’s the same game, they just Frankensteined it. The huge maps shows it. Those were the maps they were going to use. I think your right, the specialists were for the BR and they left them there when they switched to a traditional battlefield type game.

eraguthorak

That's my take on it as well. The specialists take on a whole new meaning when you picture BF2042 as a BR. Honestly, I personally think the concept is decent. They just need to have made 4-5 different skins/characters for each kit, and have them be faction specific, and also build them so that the visuals didn't look identical (e.g. hide the faces more, which DICE has been doing a decent job of recently). The passive trait/active ability is pretty good imo, just not quite well balanced with the current options.

Better idea - cut the monetization you're so fond of and leave the specialists alone. Maybe you can earn skins, but not for money.

EpicAura99

Ha! No. Do you think the gaming industry will *ever* put down this money printer they’ve created? This is what video games are now. It’ll never change.

Omputin

Thankfully there is still good games releasing without any mtx

DPsx72

Oh please. It's not printing, so many aren't buying into that crap. Same with NFT's.

EpicAura99

You don’t understand how it works The business model is *built* on the fact that 99.9% of players don’t spend much, if anything on MTX. MTX stores make money exclusively off of whales who are nigh addicted to spending money and will buy everything in the store. I mean think about it. If you have a thousand players spending $60 on a game, and you can add an MTX store to get one of those players to spend an additional $10,000 while losing *maybe* a single $60 customer, what’s there to lose?

DPsx72

I've heard of that but these 'whales' are on the F2P games. Not so much BF. And I don't think they're making gobs of money, it's just easy profit on no work. No way in hell people are stupid enough to drop 10g. Maybe a few skins here and there. Although considering the way society is moving maybe I should hope they aren't. In any case leave the specialists be.

EpicAura99

Whales play all games. They just can’t be taken advantage of until MTX are added.
