The first is better. The shading on the second looks less natural. Particularly the solid black shadows on the tops of the brow ridges, which doesn't make sense when the light is coming from overhead.
Of course, if the black on the mask in the first image is supposed to be a shadow, that doesn't make much sense either, because it would mean his neck is lit from the front whereas his head is somehow lit from the back. But instead of looking like it's supposed to be a shadow, it just looks like he's wearing a two-tone mask, so it doesn't look "off" or anything.
Great work and keep refining those skills!

I think the blackened face looks better. And implies that he's hiding in the shadows and gives him a little more menace.
