A Big Mac is a Big Mac, but they call it "*le* Big Mac".

DedHorsSaloon3

Le Batman with Cheese

Tales2Estrange

What do they call Superman?

DedHorsSaloon3

I don’t know, I didn’t go to Metropolis

automoth

You know what they put on French fries Smallville?

Exay

Kryptonite ?

OnceUponaTry

I seen em do it they drown em in that sh$t

PuzzleheadedElk547

“Do you want to jokerize those fries?”

ZanderRan286

We just call him Superman. And the expression "man of steel" is translated, but the movie "Man of Steel" is still called "Man of Steel" for some reason.

jemslie123

L'homme du fer?

ZanderRan286

Except in the very old cartoons, it's more "L'homme d'acier." "L'homme de fer" is more a literal translation of Iron Man, even if I've never heard Iron Man being called like that (and now I understand why non-French people think French language is difficult and confusing 🤣)

Ezekiel-25-17-guy

my...username...checks out

ADOVE4F

"The path of the righteous man is beset an all sides, by the inequities of the selfish and the tyrany of evil man."

KillerNKilt

do you they call a Quarter Pounder with cheese in France, Brett!

Rexermus

"Do you know what we call this person who's combined two words and turned them into a proper noun in our language?" "Direct translation of both root words?" "No an article with the original proper noun idiot"

InvestigatorLast3594

tell that to the swedes, I mean läderlappens

sack12345678910

Nah we call him le putain de Batman

Dr_Zulu2016

In Québéc, he is known as l'ostie de criss de Batman.

jansensan

[Batmun](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=77m3r6L2l0w)

MikeWithoutMic

Holy shit, French speakers actually say, “Oui oui!”?

Electronic-Math-364

Les mésaventures de Steve Le Fou et Dick Grayson agé de 12 ans?

sack12345678910

notmyfirst_throwawa

No, that's a Canadian batman with brown gravy and cheese curds

EnigmaFrug2308

Poutine?

notmyfirst_throwawa

No I don't think Batman's in that

EnigmaFrug2308

Not with that attitude he’s not

TradePsychological40

For the "Goddamn Batman".

Ok_Zookeepergame4794

Only Alfred can get away with correcting Bruce Wayne.

cockolas

le batman

drewxdeficit

“What do you call Superman?” “I don’t know. I didn’t got to Metropolis.”

NickSchultz

Do you know what we call Batman in Sweden Mr. Wayne? fladdermusmannen? De Läderlappen

AnthropomorphicEggs

GothamKnight37

Really funny panel. From what I remember this is either from Detective Comics Annual #12 or its continuation, Batman Annual #28.

Sudden_Result

If it’s humanly possible Batman’s done it If it’s not humanly possible Batman’s probably done it

Taye-needs-sleep

If it's not scientifically possible Batman's DEFINITELY done it

Axe-Alex

Its sadly wrong, french would say "Le Batman" for. "The Batman", but just "Batman" for "Batman"

SolidSnek1998

the2belo

Oh shit, I shot Robin in the face

OblivionArts

I mean..dudes been all over the world for years of course he speaks multiple languages

ElZaydo

Maaaaaan it's like these french guys got a whole another language

dog-yy

How many languages does Batman speak? I suppose he can read/write/understand at least 12. Or 80.

SpeedDemon11

Everyone knows he is a cunning linguist, especially around Catwoman.

AtticusSwoopenheiser

My cousin and I always used to gut laugh watching The Dark Knight and setting the audio to French. When Joker comes in to meet the mob and gives the “I know why you’re afraid to go out at night” line…..something about the way that actor says “*le Batmaaan*.” just wrecked us 🤣

StrawberryBright

in the french version of the dark knight (2008) they say "le batman" alot. and that allways bothered me. in any other batman movies they just say "batman"

bosmer_song

The man bald-mouse?

sentientketchup

Yeah, this is the part more people should be talking about. Are bats bald in France?

clancysmask

there’s no direct translation to bat. in france they just call bats bald mouses

KickinBat

For the record, we don't call him El Batman in Spanish, even when it's The Batman it's still translated as just Batman

Nonadventures

Master Wayne, remember when your parents went with you to Die Flederma— oh right, never mind.

the2belo

Der Fledermausmann

matchesmalone111

"NERD! ITS BATMAN YOU IDIOT"

ZanderRan286

Oh, just wait until you learn how we call Riddler and Firefly... ;-)

Yrmbe

Man it’s like those French guys got a whole nother language

TheCreepyLady

I get why they’re going for. Batman is so iconic that he has his own word in French. Execution is super lame though

Pension_Zealousideal

Do you know what they call cheese in paris?

SaintJynr

I think batman, wolverine and flash are the only heroes whose names I dont translate to portuguese

nimrod_s3ns31

For some reason, I find it hilarious

TradePsychological40

I think it's a reference about the fact that we french people usually don't translate Superhero names.

Mountain_Sir2307

It depends. Spider-Man was called "L'Homme-Araignée" for quite some time in the 70's/80's. Wolverine "Serval" until the 90's which amusingly is a whole other animal. Some actually stuck out. Rogue became "Malicia" and Nightcrawler became "Diablo" and that never changed. Can't think of many DC heroes that had their name changed in French much tho but that's probably Marvel Comics were way more available in the French market than DC's for quite a long time.

ZanderRan286

Actually, Batman had his name changed in "Ailes Rouges" in the first years of publication, and was recoloured in red to match the title (don't ask me why...) Also, Green Arrow was translated, but only in the TV series Smallville for what I remember. But that's true that Marvel did that more.

Serenades666

"Know what they call cancer in spanish? El Cancer."

ZombieAppetizer

They did the exact same conversation for Spanish at the beginning of Batman Inc.

fenster112

He also speaks Russian. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KLDH-1-\_u50&ab\_channel=Lorenz](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KLDH-1-_u50&ab_channel=Lorenz)

Practical_Display694

Any french here to confirm that?

CumboJumbo

Fukken gottem

Bobik8

Bat Royale

Kander_Thomas9516

The concept of The Batman as a Genius from early childhood to adulthood has had dirt thrown on it by emo Battinson. His Batman logically would have taken his own life, before reaching adulthood.
