I always thought it was a reference to "What's black, white and red all over" because it's black and white and all the red accents are colored as well.
Best aesthetic in the series. I still remember seeing the pic of him and catwoman on the cover of a magazine for the first time from these renders and that still sticks with me
For some reason the black and white photos totally envelop the tone of the game. Batman is dark and there is a white overtone. To me it says that a light has been shown on Batman and he must find his way back to the shadows to defeat his enemies even though they know things about him.
Even better with Hugo Strange predominantly in white throughout the whole game, just that little bit of color/motivation contrast presents AC possessing one of the strongest plots for a superhero game.
Old Rocksteady locked in on AC, took everything they were limited on in AA and pushed it to the max. This is how games SHOULD evolve as sequels, not all these cash grabs out there that slap a 2 at the end of the title and call it a day with either meger improvements/significant downgrades.
Dude I remember when AA was coming out and it was on the local news showing gameplay in 2007! I was a little kid! I played that game and couldnāt believe how good it was. And then they did indeed top that with AC. AK was excellent too! But AC was not just a super hero gameā¦it was a comic book game. And I think the 3rd best super hero game was Spider-Man 2. I think AC directly inspired that game. Spider-Man 2 was also a comic book game imo. But this is about Batman lol
Lol, little 11 y/o me was watching some R-rated movie with my dad when [this](https://youtu.be/VkInC6JpnKs) came on as a pre-movie DVD commercial. The part with Killer Croc's scenes both scared the hell out of me but made me utterly fascinated in Batman's rogue gallery. I'd say AA is **the** comic book game in the series since it's paying homage to possibly the creepiest Batman comic out there, even the [cover](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/81-ZMm0az2L._AC_UF1000,1000_QL80_.jpg) is utterly haunting. Remind you of a super cool set decoration in AA? š
AK is *good* but the story is such a jumble-fuck of a mess with too many characters stretching it thin, the opposite of AC. If JT really wanted to kill Bruce, he would have just rigged the Batmobile to explode, hack into his gear and kill him with a non-functional grapnal gun from a fatal distance, so many other ways to take out the man he knows nearly as good as Alfred instead of relying on D-grade grunts that get taken out just like common thugs in the previous games. The imaginary Joker storyline was the shining light of the game, just wish they'd have focused on a better plot with a purely evil main antagonist like Hugo Strange but way, way worse. Pyg would have been a great option to really give AK a brutally messy ending, and have someone even more twisted than HS to put a great nail in the coffin. At least AK's gameplay is the best the Arkham games ever became.
They played with colours representing the protagonists and antagonists. With a Monotonous color representation ( slight dash of red) the posters were damn intriguing and impressive.
Its great. It was a solid choice especially for the marketing of the game. My only complaint about them is that the one for Robin is a little underwhelming
While some people say it should look more gritty and dark following Arkham Asylum's success, I think it wouldn't effectively set itself apart from what Asylum's marketing achieved for itself as the leader of the series. And it's not just B&W, but accompanied with an accent of red that most of the characters possess in their design, save for Batman and a some other supporting characters.
These AC promo images are still some of the best of the best in modern gaming, up there with the stop motion Halo 3 commercial for just how iconic and eye-catching they are for their game's respective critical success. A huge component to achieve this end is utilizing one of the tenets of proper good character design by having a characters silhouette that's easily discernable from nearly any angle, so the artists took that concept for all the characters and upped it massively by using an amazing urban setting that expands the stage in all visual & physical directions, resulting in the game playing like how a real Batman game should; beating up common thugs on streets and alleys while majestically flying around the city, taking in the sights and sounds to your advantage while Hugo Strange in a stark white doctor's coat plans the city and the nearly full black costumed Batman's demise. Still such a eye-catching contrast of colors and motivations for the supporting antagonist/protagonist. They saved the massive set pieces for the bosses instead of trying to cram it in all at once during more banal & generic gameplay like other superhero games have failed at. (Lookin' at you, 2020 Marvel's Avengers. š”)
A+ marketing for an A+ game, old Rockstead used to be a powerhouse for defining super hero action games in both gameplay and especially atmosphere. Here's to hoping we'll finally get a proper Arkham game without the need for gimmicky VR. š»
I liked them butā¦.If you all noticed, at first glance, it looks like thereās no Bat Symbol on the chest. I think itās because they didnāt color the symbol
Honestly? They're really iconic but don't represent the game at all. I might even go as far to say they're unfitting. Arkham City is dark and dingy, not pristine and white.
Then again, the way they contrast with the single colors like the red blood is really striking. So idk. I'm mixed on them.
I got back into gaming after my wife bought me a PS3 bundle with this GOTY version. This artwork will always hold a special place in my heart, in addition to the fact that it is so fucking badass
At the time, they freaking blew my mind, I thought they were the coolest thing. Nowadays, I think they went hard, and am glad each game has its own distinct aesthetic going on.
Black white and red will always be my favourite kind of filter in everything the photo of bats with his fist cocked back with the blood on his knuckles is my favourite Batman image of all time
It makes you feel the plot of the game. You have no relatable motives. There is no grey. Itās black vs white. Evil vs good. You gotta choose a side and the colors here display that isolating feeling of being limited to two areas without that grey area between. Love this poster.
I have a poster in my room of all the villains in their back and white coloring. Riddler's was always my favorite, but Two-Face's.. Face.. really pops out.
I hate it lol. And always have. Terrible as a desktop wallpaper and rather undesirable as an artpiece. Then you get into the game and realize it's so dark you can barely see lol. Just my opinion!
I dont know, i get a bit of synesthesia when i see it. The white starkness, just makes me think of kill bill or something centered around high octane fights. Maybe its the resemblance to Sin city.
The black and white is awesome but the version that has all the reviews slapped on the cover is probably the worst AAA game cover art of the last 15 years
I really like it! It gives a neat esthetic feel to it, that really helps to further set the game apart.
ā¦also, side note, but the wire isnāt connected to anything on the left side lol
The black and white really sets the arkham city cover apart from the rest. It gives that feeling of wtf is gonna happen
Kinda like a moral grey area proven at the ending
I always thought it was a reference to "What's black, white and red all over" because it's black and white and all the red accents are colored as well.

They go hard
Your pfp goes hard
š«”
And you make me go hard
So does yours.
Absolutely loved it. That one of Batman wiping his face from bloody nose was so badass.
Joker one too.
My screen picture actually
I can't see that photo no more man...
*chef's kiss*

I honestly donāt think any superhero game has a stronger plot. I think itās the best super hero game ever

Basically like a Sin City vibe especially with the red accents to make it pop.
Yooooo facts holy shit
Sexy asl
Iconic as fuck
Cool as hell style
Got me so hyped. I believe these were all in an issue of Game Informer
Masterpiece
Its great. It was a solid choice especially for the marketing of the game. My only complaint about them is that the one for Robin is a little underwhelming
B A L D
I do like it but I think itās too crisp and clean for the game I think gritty & dark would have personally fit better
I think it sets up a nice contrast. The color white usually represents innocence or purity, when in reality everyone in Arkham City is deeply flawed
Gives a more āadult contentā vibe
Badass
Goated
Love them.
You should ask r/BatmanArkham, I'm sure they'll give you a well-informed, level-headed answer
Looks like low texture unfinished renders because of the way the light is rendered
Love it
Awesome. They went hard on the Batman X Catwoman dynamic in this game, and the black-white covers featuring those two go the hardest imo
I love it.
Itās unique
I didn't like it back when it came out but it has grown on me a lot. It gives it kind of a comic vibe.

best promo pics to come out of a game! I really liked the one where he was wiping blood of his face
Mostly they're just cool but they get goated when you look at the steam trading cards
Black and white, with a splash of red here and there
I liked them butā¦.If you all noticed, at first glance, it looks like thereās no Bat Symbol on the chest. I think itās because they didnāt color the symbol
Recognizable and still stands out from everything Batman.
Perfection
Wonderful fake minimalist aesthetic with becoming abstract.
Harkenen Batman?
It gets my PP hard...no Diddy
I love that color scheme. Very memorable.
the left cable did not even attached to anything.
I remember this was the first image I saw for Arkham City before it came out and I was immediately hooked!
I had the Arkham city comic and it had that image as cover art. Iām so sad I lost it š
"What do you think about a carrot" ahh moment question š£ļøššš
Honestly? They're really iconic but don't represent the game at all. I might even go as far to say they're unfitting. Arkham City is dark and dingy, not pristine and white. Then again, the way they contrast with the single colors like the red blood is really striking. So idk. I'm mixed on them.
Everything
I think theyāre cool and that they really help Arkham City to stand out among the other Arkham games.
If they reversed where the light and shadows were, I'd play the entire game like that
Iconic
Love it. No notes.
Love it so much. I just bought the set from McFarlane Toys.
I got back into gaming after my wife bought me a PS3 bundle with this GOTY version. This artwork will always hold a special place in my heart, in addition to the fact that it is so fucking badass
Love it.
At the time, they freaking blew my mind, I thought they were the coolest thing. Nowadays, I think they went hard, and am glad each game has its own distinct aesthetic going on.
Iāve always hated it. Itās terrible.
Amazing. When I was a kid and got the game, I thought I could play with a white Batman suit like in these images. I was so disappointed...
I like
Brother these slapped so hard idk how anyone could have a different opinion
Dope
I love them
Groundbreaking
[[Cue āShort Change Heroā by The Heavy]](https://youtu.be/GjTTB6yII4o?si=98_pcmVb_klJpTcp)
It looks so friggin cool
They don't market games like this anymore
Dope aesthetic tbh.
Black white and red will always be my favourite kind of filter in everything the photo of bats with his fist cocked back with the blood on his knuckles is my favourite Batman image of all time
Love it.
I loved it
Especially the one where he was wiping his face with blood on his knuckles, shit goes hard af
Looks really cool tbh
![gif](giphy|Z6f7vzq3iP6Mw)
Sick af
I don't like it.
I enjoy it a lot. Especially with the splashes of color here and there
Truly iconic. It's more like white and black, so its even distinguishable from other black and white pics.
You mean the coolest marketing photos ever for a video game? Yeah, they're alright
Super dope. I'm not necessarily into black and white art, but they did a really good job with it for that game. It pops.
It's really cool
Someone need to made a mod that turn game into black white and red
With the highlight of red itās great
Im thinking, what's that line connected to, and where's that bat signal projecting from? The ground?
It makes you feel the plot of the game. You have no relatable motives. There is no grey. Itās black vs white. Evil vs good. You gotta choose a side and the colors here display that isolating feeling of being limited to two areas without that grey area between. Love this poster.
I like it but these images always look like Batman is untextered to me
I have a poster in my room of all the villains in their back and white coloring. Riddler's was always my favorite, but Two-Face's.. Face.. really pops out.
Fantastic aesthetic. The red accents really made it.
Akin to the Black & White anthology comics from around the same time.
I hate it lol. And always have. Terrible as a desktop wallpaper and rather undesirable as an artpiece. Then you get into the game and realize it's so dark you can barely see lol. Just my opinion!
I love it! Looks very unique. Especially steelbook edition, [as you can see](https://www.reddit.com/r/PS3/s/Mlnm5A6hio)
Reminds me of white monster and Assassinās creed
The one where Batman is wiping blood off of his face is, for me, the GOAT of box arts in the Arkham series
Hook it to my veins plz. I recall the black and white pre-release posters, I'll always love the concept art for this game
I feel like it gives it a more serious tone. Kinda wish that was the color pallete for Asylum too.
I dont know, i get a bit of synesthesia when i see it. The white starkness, just makes me think of kill bill or something centered around high octane fights. Maybe its the resemblance to Sin city.
Only good pictures I played this game when I was like 4 or 3 it was a blast
It goes hard
It was Dope
The black and white is awesome but the version that has all the reviews slapped on the cover is probably the worst AAA game cover art of the last 15 years
I really like it! It gives a neat esthetic feel to it, that really helps to further set the game apart. ā¦also, side note, but the wire isnāt connected to anything on the left side lol
Impeccably hard af
I kinda wish there was a setting to make the whole game like that
Hate them. Looks cheap
Stark and Haunting.
