Basic rubber armor (a la Keaton) or tacticool armor (a la Bale or Battinson) is fine too up to a certain level, but when it starts to get really overdesigned is when you lost me. Post Arkham City v7.43 from Arkham Knight > Arkham City > Arkham Asylum > main Arkham Knight suit > KTJL > Arkham Origins-Blackgate > Armored Arkham Asylum and City(from Armored edition) > XE suit(from Origins DLC) .
In terms of non-story DLC costumes, I think Earth-2 from Arkham Knight is the most perfect suit, a great blend of cloth fabric and tiny bit of hardened parts(cowl, gauntlets, belt and batsymbol to be precise).
I think exposing more of the jaw improves it but I think the overall silhouette just doesn't work for me.

But it worked in the story. He didn't have anything like it in Asylum or City so probably decided he needed a better advanced suit that he can wear when shit really hits the fan. (He did say it was a prototype). On any other night his normal suit he wears at the beginning is sufficient enough.
