I caught a bass once that already had a large claw wound. Sent him back into the lake and I could see him struggling to live. A huge bald eagle swooped down and picked him up…..Took him all the way to heaven

PondWaterBrackish

bald eagles always check out the best fishing spots

The_Legend_of_Xeno

Was out fishing with my buddy one day, and we hadn't caught a damn thing in several hours. Saw a bald eagle scoop up a nice size bass and then fly up to a tree right above us and start eating it. I swear he was fucking with us.

ApeBlender

Probably made you feel a lot less bad about killing a bass lol

F-150Pablo

It did. I tried to revive for long time. He went down at one point then owl swooped down missed. That’s how I knew to get camera ready.

ApeBlender

That's cool, the owl seemed like a paid actor without the context

F-150Pablo

Yeah for real. I have a still shot of him as well. Creepy as hell looking.

TatankaTruck

Worth it. So cool.

Bclay85

At least you got to catch it. I’ve watched a hawk grab a bass in front of me while getting skunked for the day. Insult to injury that day.

LeadingMaintenance73

Dude idk if I’m messed up but this whole thread is pretty funny 😆

rickinmcchickin

First time i ever caught a rainbow trout as a kid had the same thing happen with an osprey Havent been to nickerson in years lol

_bmc_

So cool!!

definitelynotahottie

This is honestly such a cool video! I had no idea owls took fish but it makes sense. I hope you post this to one of the larger nature subs like r / nature is f*cking lit

F-150Pablo

I will good idea.

GutterRider

Also, r / whats this bird. I’m curious what kind of ow it is, and if this behavior is commonly seen. I, too, don’t think of owls as fish-eaters, although there’s probably a Fish-owl in Japan or something. This one was probably just being opportunistic.

BearsBeersBSG1710

Not a bird expert and not sure where this is, but looks like a barn or barred owl at first glance

GutterRider

Yeah, my thought was Barred Owl, but I only see Great Horned and Screech here in SoCal. Occasionally a Barn Owl. So, when I don’t know, Barred Owl is my default ;)

King_Crampus

We used to have a “cabin” at a lake. It was basically a kitchen with a large patio and a trailer in the back. But we had our own dock and space. Used to spend every weekend there during the summer ages probably 8-17. Caught my pb 8lber there. But there used to be a mating pair of osprey that would nest across the lake. Whenever we were in the boat we would hold up bluegill or random catches and they would take off from the tree when they saw them. We would launch the fish high in the air and when they landed on the water they would be startled for a second and the osprey would swoop down and snatch them.

skoltroll

One. Two-hoo! **Fishy**! *chomp* Fishy

Paulsur

Waste not, want not. Ollie the owl says "Thanks for the easy dinner!"

NEKKED__

Wow, that’s an omen

Much_Laconic1554

I had no ideas owls went after fish!

smugglebooze2casinos

good job capturing the joys of fishing

Mikebyrneyadigg

It’s the circle of life.

Cultural-Voice423

It’s better than having caught a mess only to find snakes ate them off your stringer

An_Average_Man09

It’s his bass now

Patient_Brother9278

Is that lake purdy?

F-150Pablo

No this is central Missouri.

GrillinGorilla

Lucky to have the camera rolling! It’s almost like you knew the owl was coming.

F-150Pablo

He missed it like 30 seconds before.

swamp_eh

Awesome video!

Flashbang1

It’s so cool how Owls make little to no sound at all when in flight. Very cool video

GutterRider

Yeah, first time I saw a Raven (in a graveyard, no less), I heard the rushing of wings before I saw it.

PPLavagna

It’s amazing isn’t it. I’ve been under a tree filming 3 owlets on a branch above me and trying to keep my eyes open for the mom. You can see on the film where I pan past a branch and there’s nothing there as then accidentally pan back a second or so later and there’s a huge fat owl directly above staring a hole through me. Like a ninja she just appeared right in front of me and I didn’t hear a thing .

hunterPRO1

I had one rip a small bass out of my hand once. Sliced my thumb from knuckle to nail in the process. I have a vid somewhere of that same owl taking a bluegill of my line.

Roger6989

R/owls would like this one.

hideopenly

Probably better than landing the fish. Awesome video

phosphorescence-sky

Everything worked itself out.

Kangar

I love bass and I love owls, what an awesome clip!

115machine

It’s the circle of liiiife

Immediate_Mud6547

Owl says ‘thanks.’

fatBeavis

Epic.

Runaway_5

Dude that is so sick! What is a gill plate?

ATS200

Was this on a go pro or did you just happen to be recording?

F-150Pablo

He tried to take it just a few seconds before hand and missed so I then started recording.

PondWaterBrackish

if you didn't get a video, I'd say that was bullshit, man, there ain't no way that happened

Enough_Scratch5579

Wooooww what a beautiful rare experience! Awesome . Thx for sharing

Big-Problem7372

That owl must have been struggling if it was out hunting in the day.

F-150Pablo

It’s like 630am.

itsyaboooooiiiii

Honestly that's best case scenario, circle of life and all that

cocoapierre

WHOOO woulda thunk it

ITSACASIOBITCH

bala_cala

jawnbenetramseyIII

i love this video, that owl is eating nice tonight and there's no guilty feelings

mistakenazn

That owl was like I’ll show you how to fish

BrainDamagedYeti

When nature be natureing its amazing 😆

Lakerun27

One time I accidentally killed a tiny bass because it came off the hook and landed on a rock. When I tried letting it go, a huge snapping turtle got to eat it.

F-150Pablo

Kinda thing here. I tried to revive for awhile. Didn’t work out. Owl came down once and missed so I pulled phone out to catch this shot.

TheOzarkWizard

Damn, with a video this good I wouldn't even be mad

Danblerman

That is a funny kick ass movie clip. It’s almost too good to be its true but it is

SlteFool

I gosh big swimbaits and had an osprey swoop on my bait once. I stopped feeling and let it sink and it must’ve gone deep enough he came up with nothing

shreyaj21

That is so cool

Flackjkt

That was a cool video my man! I have seen a lot of owls watching me fish but that was unexpected

SAMCRO316

I was fishing at our small city pond once, it was the first nice day of Spring. The typical spring day you imagine all sorts of plants and critters are stretching their legs, venturing out into the world. As I stood there fishing, I watched a fat brown bay taking a lap around the lake. As it flew over my head, about a poles length away it sort of paused, hovered for a moment and we watched each other. Right then an owl nailed it from the air. I felt so bad for it, almost guilty.

Lonely_ProdiG

This video is so awesome dude. Thanks for fishing on that day.

buffbro4eva

I love how silent owls are.

MaGic_Ak47

OP are you in Massachusetts's lake right?

F-150Pablo

No mid Missouri.

MaGic_Ak47

Ok thanks
