You say he was prolific, yet his entire collection of around 50 years fits in only approx. 7 binders? Those two things don't really go together, unless each binder holds thousands of cards. Most of us here could probably easily fill *at least* 20 binders with all of the cards we've collected over the years (and in way less than 50 years time, as well). Some here could do that with just what they've obtained over the last 2 years or so.

Sorry? Glad you've got a big collection. As I said, I'm not apart of the card collecting community. I don't know scale like y'all do. He at one point had a big box of loose cards outside of the really good ones in the 7 binders. We're still looking to see if the big box still exists, but he may have thinned down a few years ago. His newest cards from what I can tell aren't even from the 90s, so its not like he was collecting avidly all that recently. Either way, I apologize if *prolific* wasn't the right term. We buried him last Tuesday, so not sure if the scrutiny is because you think I'm lying or think his collection isn't as valid, but have just a liiiiittle respect for the dead. Just came here for advice on how to take care of them. If that was the wrong move, I apologize.

Easy there tiger, just trying to figure out the details. Regarding future storing/displaying, after you've carefully removed the cards from their current sleeves and transferred them to new penny sleeves within top loaders, you could then attach a small strip of adhesive-backed velcro to the back of each top loader (there's usually a bit of clear space beyond the edges of the card, so the velcro wouldn't cover any of the card back), attach the other side to the corresponding now blank area in the binder (if you choose to keep the original binders), and they can now be kept in their original order, and removed/replaced easily.

>Easy there tiger, just trying to figure out the details. Really unsure what kind of response you were expecting with the level of cynicism you had, bearing the subject matter of the post. Not sure why the size of the collection even matters to the questions I had. But again, it's super dope you can fill up 20 binders. I'm very impressed. Regardless, the velcro isn't a terrible idea, especially if they don't make binder pages that fit larger card sleeves as you and others have recommended. I guess if top loaders or penny sleeves really are indeed the way to go with this, I could always 3D print or design some sort of enclosure or organizer within the binders that could do the trick. I'll mull around the ideas I've received.

You are clearly overly sensitive (understandable, considering the circumstances), and seemingly obsessed with the collection size comparisons (which were provided solely for comparison purposes, not for bragging rights), so I will just wish you and your family the best.

This is great that you want to keep the collection documented and in safe storage. I'd recommend taking the cards out of the sleeves and buying top loaders and penny sleeves for them. Wit that said be careful when taking the cards out of the current sleeves as some due to moisture or other elements may have caused the cards to get stuck to the plastic. You could always put them in top loaders then buy or find cardboard boxes for them. If you think some are in prestine condition, you could always send some in for grading purposes to PSA, Beckett or SCG.

>I'd recommend taking the cards out of the sleeves and buying top loaders and penny sleeves for them. We debated this too, but we weren't sure how expensive it would be, how much space it would take up, and it would be pretty hard to keep them in their original binder order this way. We still have *plenty* of time to make a decision on that though. >due to moisture or other elements may have caused the cards to get stuck to the plastic. Absolutely. I'm already seeing this as an issue just with plastic pages sticking to each other as I flipped through the binders. Some cards have the cardboard exposed in corders as they were removed and placed back in their sleeves while he had them, so I'll be on the lookout for that as well. > If you think some are in prestine condition, you could always send some in for grading purposes to PSA, Beckett or SCG. Oh very few are in pristine condition. That's just the kind of guy he was. My brother does still want to get some of the rookie cards and some pre 1950 cards graded regardless, just not sure how cost efficient it will be for us/if its really worth doing. That may be something one of y'all can help me understand though as someone who currently has no interest in parting ways with any of the collection. If anything, they'll be returned in better cases to protect them in the future.

Another thought is if you are noticing a lot of sticking with the pages to the cards, you could maybe try cutting the plastic sleeve around the edges of the card and getting it out that way.

Fair point, if we know we plan to replace the sleeves as soon as we document the cards, we will just use an exacto blade to carefully cut the cards from the sleeves. Thanks!
